Anna Paquin Says She Is Bisexual

It almost feels like coming out week in the celebrity world doesn't it? Earlier in the week Ricky Martin announced he is gay, and now Anna Paquin has announced she is bisexual. She did so in a PSA which is not what anyone was probably expecting. There it is just right in your face. Five seconds in and she says it. Good for her. It is great she did it and great Ricky did it and Clay Aiken is in there and it was good he did it. You can be gay and make money and have a career as an actor in Hollywood. Hello Neil Patrick Harris. I still can't believe he is gay. Do you think about him being gay when he is playing a straight guy? No, you just get into the character.

  3. So does this mean Anna is going to be the REVEAL for any of the blinds?

  4. Really great Newsweek article about those society's that tolerate homosexuality being happier and more developed, wealthy, etc. Check it out: http://www.newsweek.com/id/235702

  7. Great job, Anna!

Can you imagine if everyone who was in the closet came out? It would really change old perceptions of what it means to be gay.

  8. Not an April Fool's joke. This is a real organization. As the Aussies say, good on her.

  11. It's sad that in this day and age there needs to be a PSA about this topic. America is so ahead in some aspects, but soooo behind in others. Sad.

That being said I (partially) wonder if Anna Paquin just said that cause there needed to be a bisexual represented?

  12. "Hate" crimes is so much bullshit. A crime is a crime. Period.

  13. So glad to read this today after being so pissed with this morning's GMA story about these idiots who protest at funerals for soldiers because our soldiers defend a country that tolerates homosexuality. I felt so sad for one fallen soldier's Father.

    Come on people.

  14. On Michael K's post he said that no one on the shoot knew she was going to say that. Soo, I don't think she said it just because they needed a bisexual in the mix..

  15. I think this is really awesome. Good for her. And I love the way she did it too, very matter of fact :)

  16. @icecat

I read that too, but they don't have to know it's going to happen for it to happen. Maybe she did it all by herself. I dunno, I'm just playing the devil's advocate.

  17. I applaud everyone that took part in this PSA. And I agree...there should be no reason for it, in this day and age. And YAY Anna! Add me to the list of people that love her juuuuuussst a little more now. :-)

Maybe she didn't want to be a blind item and decided it was time.

  19. Good for her. We need more faces for bisexuality. Hell, I think there are more bisexual people out there than gay people. Sexuality is just a big ol' spectrum, folks...

  20. LOVE Mraz!

@Sylvia- haha you know you're on CDAN too much when we assume celebs try to avoid blind items! I do it too ;)

  21. i don't think about NPH as gay, i just think about how awful How I Met Your Mother is now. i used to look forward to that show, now it's boring as hell.

  22. syd- why is this bullshit?

getting jumped after the bar by a bunch of drunk dudes for hitting on their girlfriend is NOT the same as say..getting jumped in the alley behind the bar and being kicked and stomped into a coma while being called a fucking faggot...just for being gay. or black. or muslim.

Hate Crimes are rampant and heinous and should be treated accordingly.

  24. While this is a good commercial and I applaude the message, it pisses me off that it's necessary in this day and age! I may hate on a celebrity because they're skanky, druggy, or vapid, but NEVER because of what gender they prefer sexually.

I have no problem with anyone being gay, straight, bi or purple. Why can't people just BE?
To me, it's a private thing. If I'm not going to date you, I don't CARE which you prefer. If I work with you, I also don't care which you prefer either. That stuff can be figured out by general conversation over a matter of time, and it's still no big deal to me. I'm sure as hell not going to ask you and I'm certainly not going to tell you "Hey I'm _____, isn't that SUPER?!" I'm going to like you or not depending on what kind of PERSON you are, if you're fun, kind, honest, etc.

In general, to me a if you're a celebrity and you're blabbing out "blah, blah blah "I'm straigh/gay/bi" is just NOISE to get YOU NOTICED. I'm not going to like you more as a celebrity because of that. I'm not going to screw you so what do I give a shit which way you swing? Keep it to yourself NOISEMAKER.

That said, this PSA was a good thing, however I doubt it will reach the homophobes. :-(

  25. also, i hope there will be day where female-female sex will not be thought of as drool material for dudes.

  26. I also like that NPH being gay and being able to play such a player in HIMYM is amazing, it proves that it can be done!

  27. and i still have the hots for NPH!. Good for Anna P.

  29. Yeah, jax, it is the same. Or it should be under the law, in my opinion. And each should be punished equally.

  30. Like I needed another reason to be jealous of Stephen Moyer.

  31. It is possible to be monogamous and bi, I know a lot of bi women who have only one partner. Being bi doesn't mean you NEED to have both genders in bed to make you happy or sexually satisfied.

A lot of bi people fall in love with a person and their gender isn't a barrier. It's not like all bi women are thinking, "I have a lovely girlfriend but now I need a boyfriend to be complete." (or vice-versa)

  32. Yay Anna P! I remember when she got her Oscar for The Piano - she was SO adorable (and also excellent in that picture). We need more people coming out - sad that in 2010 that this is still the case, but the struggle continues.

  33. Wait a second - you mean an actress is BISEXUAL?! Why, what a completely unheard-of thing!

    Oh... wait...

  34. omg....sookie is bisexual....finally some hope

  35. Isn't just about everyone bi? I found out my nephew was bi on Facebook. He didn't think it was a big enough deal to 'come out' because he and my daughter's generation don't see it as a big thing. It just is. I was raised in a strict, religious household, but regardless, I don't think sexuality matters, nor should it matter between or be put into some rigid box. I really don't care what two consenting adults do in privacy as long as no one is hurt against their will. We've got mixed signals in this culture. We can't even get a campaign to pass out condoms without some factions losing it, but on the other hand, sex is used to lure consumers. I just think we need to grow the f*ck up - collectively in the US (and beyond).
