Gabourey Sidibe Turns Diva

All of the goodwill that Gabourey Sidibe has earned over the past year may have disappeared in one night. It seems that last weekend at the Correspondent's dinner, many reporters not only wanted to meet Gabourey but also to say hi and to ask a question or two. It took a few days but one thing all the reporters said about her is that she was mean and rude.

A Washington Post reporter just wanted to congratulate her and Gabourey told him to come back in five minutes. The Post reporter then shared his story with another reporter who said that Gabourey was rude to her also. But wait, there is more. MSNBC said that Gabourey was rude to a fan who wanted a picture with her. Gabourey refused to smile and told the fan they were lucky to even get a picture with her. Gabourey also cut off reporters, walked away from reporters and seemed to only want to find other celebrities to speak to.

I was hoping she wouldn't get the diva bug. She has always been nice in the past. She could have been thinking about how bad she was on SNL or having a bad day, but she needs to know she hasn't earned diva status yet.

  1. I thought there was only one incident and the paps were crowding her so she got a little huffy? This story puts a whole new spin on the diva thang.

I didn't see all of SNL when she hosted, but what I did see was okay.

She's been in one movie. Not enough experience to play the diva card.

  3. Someone's head has gotton a little too big for their own good.

  4. Just because someone is fat doesn't mean they are always grateful for any attention.

  5. People have been fawning all over her since day one of Precious.
The critics, the public, the media.
The only remotely negative comments have been about her weight, and even those have been very few.

It was a good thing that she seemed to take all the attention in her stride and not feel overwhelmed by it, as well as not feeling as if she had to apologise for not being thin.

But for a while now I've been getting the impression that her blase demeanour is not the result of her being unaffected by her celebrity, but rather from the fact that she feels entitled to it. That it's just the natural order of things.

Let her enjoy it while it lasts.

  6. I'm just jealous that she got to go to the White House for dinner. I wanna go!

  7. Am I the only one who hasn't found her red carpet appearances endearing? I think she's been acting smug since she started getting media attention so I wouldn't be surprised by this behavior. She was in a movie with 2 huge divas: Mo'nique & Mariah Carey. She didn't have much of an example to learn graciousness from.

  8. I would throw her a pass on the night. She was out of her element and sounds like she was overwhelmed by all the star power and wanted to be in the "fame clique" all night.

If I had a chance to rub up against Ashton Kutcher vs. some old newsguys ask me the same question 100x. Ashton wins hands down.

  9. It's kind of sad that she's become a diva so fast. And this event has always been with the press and celebs mixing. You think of all places you would be a little gracious.

What makes this worse is that she has often talked about her experiences as a fan and who she just loves as a fan and wants to meet. I'm sure if she was treated like this by someone in NSYNC, we would all know about it by now.

  10. The way I read it was that she seems a little overwhelmed by the attention. She doesn't understand that when you go to these public outings, you're working.

    GO PHILLIES!!!!!! Holla!!

The Phillies are stinking it up. I thought they'd be so much better than they are (right now). I know it's early, and it can (and probably will) change, but I'm not betting on them anymore.

Perhaps you have the curse of the Halladay? We've been doing o.k since he left, and everyone put us in the AL East basement. Something to think about.

    (I know he's 5-1)

  12. Big fame very fast and not enough time to learn one of the basic rules of celebrity...

Don't offend someone who can tell a million people about it with a couple clicks of a keyboard. I doubt any of the more experienced celebs brush off the press like that.

Why is it that its so hard to just enjoy the ride instead of thinking you own the damn train?

  13. No one has earned the right to be a diva. I don't feel sorry for her or think she deserves a pass. She went to a press function. WTF did she expect? I get so sick of the entitled celebrities who think they are better than everyone else because they have acted.

  14. Yeah, I wanna give her the benefit, too. I don't think she quite understands what is expected of her, and I totally get that she's overwhelmed and probably just wants to meet celebrities while she can. Hopefully she'll get her shit together if she wants this ride to last.

  15. I know this is off-topic (sort of) but did you guys see dlisted's post yesterday about what a Bitchy McCunterpants Lea Michelle is? What is up with these actresses nowadays?

I did, and I believe it was at the same event.

  17. I saw that chop, I guess it pissed her off to be asked her name by the paps. I think it's funny as hell. Some of those paps wouldn't know their own Mother walking down the street, but um, sorry Lea, you're not a household name. Didn't her belly look poochy in that dress too?

  18. I don't think good manners shouldn't go out the window just because you have some minor success.

I saw that post too. I didn't recognize her nor her name. I had to google it to find she's in Glee (I'm new to Glee), then I thought "Ohhhhhhhhh, she's the ugly chick with the big nose and the screechy/screamy singing voice!, Why the hell is she so entitled?"

  20. I have always thought her attitude since day 1 seemed a little "entitled" to me. I hope I am wrong.

  21. oh hell noooooo...i hope her team sets her straight reeeeeeeal quick.

  22. How is it being a diva to blow off reporters? For some reason, media folks thing they have the right to demand personal attention from people any time they wish. Maybe she didn't want to do press for one night? Big deal. Get over it.

As for the fan snub, I'd like a witness other than a 'journalist' who has his nose bent out of shape.

    Have a little skepticism, people.

  23. Yes, she is getting a little ridiculous. She has had one movie. Take it down a notch. I also wrote about this today: http://loveandknuckles.blogspot.com

  24. Good grief, very few even consider that this is, you know, GOSSIP???!!!! This is not hard fact. This is maybe a couple of people shooting the shit about work and some of the folks they encountered that night. And because these couple of folks got together, talked a bit, mentioned Gabourey, she's suddenly an entitled diva? Really? Wow, those in glass houses....

  25. Maybe she got called fat one time too many that day. I'll give her the benefit of a doubt.
