The Netherlands Think Snoop Is Not Friendly - Remove Him From Concert Lineup
Umm, I don't know about you, but I think that if ever there was a person who exemplified the pot culture of The Netherlands better than Snoop Dogg, I don't know who that person is. Snoop was all set to headline Parkpop with Juliette Lewis and Nena which is held in The Hague.
City officials released a statement that said Snoop was removed from the bill in order to "preserve the free, open and friendly nature of Parkpop."
Not friendly? Snoop on pot is probably the most friendly thing you are ever going to see. I think it is far worse that they are subjecting the people who are attending the concert to sit through an extended set of Juliette Lewis music.
They did not elaborate on their reasons, but it could be because of all the arrests and convictions in his past. That being said, the UK let him in the country and if anyone was to hold a grudge it should be them.
Snoop is pretty high on my list of famous people I would want to hang out with and one of the main reasons is he actually seems like a really friendly person. I don't get it...they let Van Der Sloot come back from Aruba but no snoop?! WTF!
ReplyDeleteI think this has less to do with Snoop, and more to do with the type of crowd they think he will attract.
ReplyDeleteI saw The Beastie Boys @ Shoreline, CA. They served alcohol at the show, and allowed a mosh pit.
ReplyDeleteA few years later I saw a Jay Z, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes concert @ Shoreline. They refused to serve alcohol because they felt that crowd would be too rowdy.
Enty, I will have to disagree with you on this. Juliette Lewis is absolutely amazing live! I have seen her twice, a great show!
ReplyDeletei could suggest a great spot in amsterdam these officials need to visit. after sampling the goods there, they won't give a shit if snoop comes or not. in fact, they'll probably want to invite him to join them.
ReplyDeleteI've been visiting family in the Netherlands this summer, so know a little bit about what might be going on.
ReplyDeleteThe culture is very much one of allowing people to do as they please. While you can still go to Amsterdam and buy and smoke weed, there is a government agenda to slowly phase out the number of "coffee shops". It is partly due to the fact that it is not the Dutch who frequent the coffee shops, but tourists. And from what I saw when I was there, it seems to be English men, who go there in droves to partake of the drugs and women.
So, they are NOT wanting to encourage more people to come there to smoke pot. That might explain why they don't want Snoop to come.
