Nicole Richie's Probation Extended Another Year

This morning a judge ordered that Nicole Richie's probation for a DUI conviction be extended for a year. It seems that Nicole did not finish her required alcohol education programs. She had permission from the program to miss time because of the fact that she gave birth and has been raising her two kids.

I don't have a problem with that part of it. I mean when you have two kids or are pregnant trying to raise another child, time is short. The same courtesies are given to lots of working mothers in the same situation. My issue is that I have seen pictures of Nicole all over the world promoting her fashion line and at events and other things which would seem to take a whole lot more time than a few alcohol classes. No mention of any of that though.

I think the fact that she tends to only have positive news reports about her and her charity work and everything else is what makes her be able to escape some of the wrath that would follow someone like Lindsay who you get the feeling is doing everything she can to avoid taking any responsibility for her actions.

  1. I find it really odd that Joel's face has the same expression in every picture. It's almost like he's not there mentally.

  2. Well those are old pictures. We haven't seen any pictures of her and the kids out and about, going to and from ballet classes like we did a couple of months ago.

I hope she's clean and sober.

  3. I don't understand. Is it a good thing or bad thing for HER to be on probation for another year. I would've thought it was a bad thing, because that means she has to mind her p's and q's, but apparently she wanted this? Sumwon esplane, pleese.

  4. i think its just a bad thing right? I dont think she wanted it, I think she just didnt go to enough classes

  5. Yeah, I don't get the media's love for Nicole Richie. I mean, she is/was a complete ass with her BFF Paris on all those Simple Life shows.... she loses a shit load of weight and suddenly everyone loves her.

    Do. Not. Get. It.

  7. Does Nicole Richie have a discernable personality? I just assumed she had kids to substitute for her own vacuity, so she'd stay on tabloid covers after Paris Hilton had lost interest in her.

Does she do, say, or make anything that is special? If the answer is no, I'd like to request Enty institute a ban on covering her. She shouldn't be rewarded for being so useless.

@smooches - I think that's a stuffed Joel doll they are posing with. A real human would change expression a little bit, right?

  9. Enty I was thinkin the same thing that how does she not have time for the classes but has time to travel the world promoting her projects.

I think the media starting liking her when she began distancing herself from Paris and began an "Earth Mother" image revamp ala Angelina Jolie. There's been so many blinds that she is partyin again and Joel has checked out of the relationship.

But another year on probation ultimately is a good thing for the public (and maybe not for her) that she has to stay on her p's & q's for another year. But if she is partying again, she may slip up and get caught. Unless she is getting high at home while Joel is on tour. Those poor babies.

  10. ^ Christina - she did start a childrens charity which there was media coverage of her promoting. Other than that I don't know.

My curiousness is why are all her photos of recent have the avatars?

  11. I've heard that her Winter Kate collection is doing quite well so yes she DOES something. It looks like she turned her life around after being with Paris Hilton. Now she is a responsible mom, a "fashion designer" and supposedly drug and alcohol free.

I say kudos to her if she's independent and making a decent buck instead of going on realty shows making a fool of herself for cash.

  12. That little Harlow is just the cutest and it's obvious who has the personality in that family.

  13. It always bothered me that she didn't do some serious time for driving on the wrong side of the freeway. I drive on that road a LOT and it scares me that celebrities have no real consequences when drunk/drug driving on the roads I share. My neighbor was recently badly injured by a drunk driver. He was parked on the side of the road looking at his map when he got slammed into by a woman who lost control coming off a freeway exit. She was twice the legal limit and actually totaled his car. When the police came to take her, she was so wasted she was an incoherent rag doll. Apparently people had been calling 911 all along the freeway to report that she was passing out at the wheel while driving. My neighbor had been getting the maps out of the trunk of his car moments before. Had timing been different, he would be dead. So as much as Nicole has turned her life around, she is part of the problem in Los Angeles that sends the message that celebrities get away with breaking the law and endangering lives.

  14. I'm glad her probation is extended, if she slips up maybe there will be consequences? I'm rooting for her because she has the little ones. When she was sober, she was a healthy weight.

  15. I keep rooting for her and hoping that the BI isn't true.

  16. Yeah that photo is very Weekend at Bernie's, with Joel or Benji (don't know the difference and don't care) as Bernie.

  18. I'm with a lot of the people above. I don't get the blind hero worship for this trick. Popping out babies does not automatically exonerate you from the destructive behavior you've engaged in. Driving on the wrong side of the freeway in Los Angeles is serious business, and it's a miracle she didn't kill anybody, including herself. If the most recent pictures are any indication, she is NOT clean and sober. Extra probation is a good thing. It's probably the very least of what she needs. I hope she cleans up her act for the sake of her two beautiful children.

  19. I'm with you, Enty. I want to like Nicole - want to believe she turned her life around from being the DICK she used to be, driving drunk, making fun of other people for being fat, generally being spoiled, etc., but she HAS been traipsing around the world not attending her alcohol program, kind of like....Lindsay?

  20. Why can't anyone be happy she is turning her life around. By reading these comments it seems like the majority of people on this site want her to pay forever for her actions. And yes, I know that victims of drunk drivers pay forever but she doesn't have any victims from her DUI. I mean you guys bitch about the way Lindsay Lohan acts(and rightfully so) and yet when Nicole is doing the opposite you all still bitch. How do you guys want her to pay? Be in jail? Alcohol classes for 10 years, extended probation? Will anything be enough to appease you all?

  21. I think while she may not have been 100% in complaince with her probation, she is light years away from the Lindsay Lohan situation (she's got two children, has a clothing line, etc. and doesn't go out like she did in her early 20s.) I think her behavior shows she's on a good path. Especially when you compare her to Lindsay who thumbs her nose at the system every single second and gets away with everything.

  23. She should have done this though. She should have respected the courts. If nothing else, it teaches her that she better have respect.

  24. I totally agree, Enty.

  25. Oooooh, Christina Penn used the word "vacuity."

    Love the vocab!

And I figure Pixie Mixie has been surreptitiously hitting the Horse all along. JMO.

  26. I wonder if she is any nicer now that she has her own kids. Probably not.

  27. Selena Kyle,

My mission is to alway use the right word for the job. So when I get to call up an old 50-cent piece like 'vacuity' it's always a happy day.

Whatever Nicole is doing, clean or sober, she still looks like a character from A Nightmare Before Christmas. Those aviators don't help her out in that regard. She needs to eat more protein.

  28. I think most people are sick of the rules being one way for celebs and another for 'real people'. I can't speak for anyone else here but I believe that a regular person driving intoxicated down the wrong side of a freeway would have faced more consequences than Nicole and so my beef is with the system. I drive the roads in LA and I want to know that there are laws in place for a reason. I don't want to be haunting your asses here because some celeb with a previous DUI takes me out next time.

  29. The Simple Life was a guilty pleasure when it was on because I always found Nicole funny and quick witted (possibly because she was standing next to Paris, that vacuous cardboard cut-out masquerading as a human).

Maybe she thought she could ignore or charm away her sentence but I do think she should have to pay her dues just like anyone else charged with her offense.

    I wish her well.

  31. i've mentioned it before, but my idiot son got himself a dui about 5 years ago. luckily only totaled his own car and hit a phone pole. 'fessed up to it, spent a night in the drunk tank, and is only just now getting the points off his license. he attended every class, followed all the rules, paid all the fees, and somehow, someway, picked his ass out of the gutter, straightened his life out, met a girl, and i now have a granddaughter.
man, o, man, if he had skipped anything, he'd be in jail.
but i have to tell you, these kids take a "dewey" as a joke. i imagine the rich kids do even more so, since they can pay the fines up front, get the blow meter (whatever they're called) installed, not to mention replace the car. DS did not enjoy walking to work in summer 116 degree heat and winter snow. he's all grown up now, and not that stupid... which is the way i raised him.
i think if nicole was really screwing up, she'd have gotten another 3 years. and i believe she's turned around.
of course, i could be wrong on both accounts, but i hope not.
