Bobby Fischer's Body Exhumed

I think this is the first time I have ever managed to figure out a way to work Bobby Fischer into a post. It has been too long. One of the most unusual men who ever lived and one of the greatest chess players of all-time should be talked about more often. I will get to the gossip context in a minute, but if you have never seen Searching For Bobby Fischer, then you need to. Tonight. It is one of my favorites and has a great cast. Oh, and it does not have Bobby Fischer in it, just in case you were wondering.

Anyway, this morning in Iceland, authorities there exhumed Bobby Fischer's body because of claims made by a woman that Bobby was the father of her 9 year old son. Bobby died 2 years ago but did not leave a will so there has been one non-stop fight over his $2M fortune. His body was exhumed to get a DNA sample.

$2M seems like a lot but if lawyers have been fighting for two years there will not be much of it left.

  1. Major points for the Searching for Bobby Fischer shout out! Excellent movie.

Out of morbid curiosity, who pays for the exhumation if it turns out not to be his kid or is that just a state thing?

  2. It ends a state's battle, so I think it is ok. But honestly, why didn't she come forth the 7 years he was alive?

And really....Bobby Fischer's son? She has Bobby Fischer's son and she puts him in the corner with Baby from Dirty Dancing?

  3. Enty -- I think that should be Bobby Fischer's alleged *daughter*, not son.

  4. so why is this just happening now? and if that kid ISN'T bobby fischer's, SHE should have to pay for the exhumation.
