Elizabeth Taylor Stays Feisty

You have to love that Elizabeth Taylor uses Twitter. I don't really care about anyone else, but I love that she has embraced it and uses it and tells the world what is on her mind. In her latest message she addresses the rumors that Angelina Jolie or Catherine Zeta Jones is set to play Elizabeth in a story about herself and Richard Burton.

"Hold your horses world. I've been hearing all kinds of rumors about someone being cast to play me in a film about Richard and myself. No one is going to play Elizabeth Taylor, but Elizabeth Taylor herself. Not at least until I'm dead, and at the moment I'm having too much fun being alive...and I plan on staying that way. Happiness to all."

I love this woman. I would love for her to play herself or one more role in a movie. You know the sad thing? She only has about 220 thousand followers while someone from Jersey Shore probably has a million. This is Elizabeth Taylor. She is the gossip queen. She is a living legend and it sucks that people do not know who she is or what she did.

  4. Forgive me for what I am about to say but.... there's almost something Megan Fox'ish about Elizabeth Taylor in this picture...

(oh no, here comes the hate messages)

  7. Just read that article in Vanity Fair about Liz and Burton. My husband has just finished "Hellraisers", a book about Burton, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris, and Oliver Reed. Liz is featured in the book, too, naturally. My husband said she put them all to shame. Liz Taylor is awesome. What a life!!! Certainly not perfect, but just as certainly bold. Long live the Queen of the Tabloids. Plus, scandalous behavior aside, she's a tremendous actress and one of the most beautiful women who ever lived. "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" anyone? I'd give ten years of my life to look like that in a slip.

  8. MissJenny funny you say that. I was going to post the same thing. I think Megan does have Liz's look but sadly she doesn't have the acting chops to pull off the Liz.

Maybe in a few years when Megan matures and takes more acting classes she could do a bio pic. I'm actually not against it.

    yeah, megan does resemble her

  11. I can't remember the name of her autobiography, but I do remember reading it a few years ago. It's nearly as good as her tweets and a good snapshot of Old Hollywood.

  12. I have Furious Love sitting on my coffee table. I'm almost done with it. I'm fascinated by "Liz & Dick". What a pair they made!!!

I'm convinced they would have been married one last time if he hadn't died so young.

  13. I've never found her to be the great beauty she supposedly was, in her prime. Nevertheless, she was a good actress and I enjoy watching her performances.

I haven't heard about her in a long time, and I can't remember - is she currently married?
The last thing I remember reading about her is her gay gardener having to perform sexual duties for her.

  14. I just finished Furious Love. Wait for the paperback and read the Vanity Fair article. All the really good stuff is in the magazine. My Dad's cousin was Philip Ober and he had a house next to them in Mexico. He used to tell us about the epic battles those two would have.

At the end of the book it quotes his last letter saying he wants to "go home" to her. I agree they probably would have been together again, if not for the terrible accident that killed him.

Burton was an abusive asshole, and I'm glad she stayed away from him. They were both somewhat nut jobs too.

  16. @Missjenny619 That's ok, I can see it but Fox doesn't have the lady-like softness or the acting skills as a poster mentioned.

"No one is going to play Elizabeth Taylor, but Elizabeth Taylor herself." Great phrase.

  17. Missjenny619 -- I thought the exact same thing. Think it's the eyes.

I'm going to go follow Miz Liz on Twitter now. :)

  18. NOT a fan. i lived through her whole career, except for her childhood. she wasn't much of an actress, she's a drunk and homewrecker X2.

  19. I didn't know she Tweeted--now I'll have to follow her.

I think she is a character--not a bad actress, definitely not the best ever. Just kind of interesting.

  20. Say what you will about Dame Elizabeth - no matter what, she's a Legend and deservedly so.
My biggest fantasy would be to get Liz, Betty White and Debbie Reynolds together with a case of wine and have them start on the stories.(And of course, have a tape recorder going)
Can't you just imagine the one-up's that'd occur? I drool. I positively DROOL!

  21. i respect her acting, but her homewrecking ways never sat well with me.

that and her WEIRD relationship with Kathy Ireland! wtf?

  22. @RJ - totally agree about Cat on a Hot Tin roof. Unbelievably beautiful.
A great philanthropist who's had a lot of heartbreak in her life.

  23. Mike Todd died during the filming of Cat on a Hot Tim Roof. She still chewed up the scenery.

  24. And Megan Fox *wishes*

  25. That woman is a trip. I just want to hug her. And get a look at that jewelry collection!!!

  26. She is gorgeous. And I totally agree with Elizabeth...the two actresses being bandied about to play her, Angie and Catherine, NO WAY. They do not even come close to touching her, and they are both way past their prime. The problem with the actresses today is that they all look plastic-surgeried to death and/or starve themselves to the point of being emaciated. I long for the days of the old-time movie stars like Marily, Elizabeth and Grace Kelley...I agree with y'all that said Megan Fox is the only one around these days that physically looks the part. Never seen her acting, so I can't comment on that...

  27. i LOVE LOVE LOVE elizabeth taylor.

i will never see a fffffffing movie about her life with some damn modern actress botching her up. remember what jennifer love desperate did to audrey hepburn?

taylor + burton. both absolutely amazing.

    **steps down from soapbox

  28. I just realized I *did* see a movie based on Taylor's life many years ago with Sherilyn Fenn - she did a pretty good job.

  29. Please for goodness sakes, Liz, will me your ice skating rink!

  30. Her tweets are far and few between, but when she does: bam!

  31. Megan Fox has the potential to embody the Elizabeth Taylor persona, but has so far sold herself short. She's an example of modern internet-driven sex appeal vs. classic Hollywood Liz Taylor sex appeal. Back in the day, she'd be groomed by the studios and taught how to become that person, if she truly had it in her. But there' still only one Elizabeth Taylor!

  32. Hey Nancer, I am with you! I am not a Liz Taylor fan either. I find her to be an egotistical nut job. Maybe that is Hollyweird, but why should anyone admire that? I thought Richard Burton and she deserved each other.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I forgot to mention, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly were the true class acts, not Liz Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with everyone above- Megan Fox looks the most "like" her. But they're better off finding some unknown. As for the Richard Burton part, the guy from "Hung" resembles him.

  35. she stole her BF's husband. then she dumped HIM for another woman's husband. i've never understood the adoration for liz taylor. she's been married 8 times, she's a lush and a pill head and she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.
the ONLY role she was good in was 'who's afraid of virginia woolfe' and that's because she pretty much played herself---a drunken bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  36. One of the last of Old Hollywood's greats. Yeah, she may have been a homewrecker and a alkie but what a beauty! I've always enjoyed her sassy approach too. Plus she made some fine movies in her time....take another look at Butterfield 8 or Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf"

But please, don't mention Meghan Fox in the same sentence! Amateur!

  37. She is a legend...there will never be another like her...ever.
