Kara DioGuardi Getting The Boot From American Idol

It does not look like when Nigel Lythgoe officially signs on to return as Executive Producer at American Idol, his first task will be to show Kara DioGuardi to the door and say buh bye. Oh, how I miss that sketch on SNL. I think the best one was when David Spade did it with Helen Hunt. The only problem was that for weeks everyone always said it. That was back in the day when SNL used to actually produce water cooler talk and everyone repeated their catch phrases.

Anyway, back to Kara being given the boot. There are only going to be 3 judges this year. So, if you have Ellen and a barely hanging on Randy Jackson who will take the third seat? Nigel will make some half hearted offers to people, but the man loves judging SYTYCD so I would imagine he will put himself in that third judges seat.

Buh Bye Kara.

  1. Kara is more qualified than Nigel. Not that it matters. I don't care anyway, I'm done with that show.

  3. i really didn't like her very much, she was pretty dull *yawn*...but i haven't watched the show in a few years, except for the first few tryout episodes, those are kind of fun.

  4. They should replace Ellen. While she was interesting with her subtle one-liners, I don't think she knows that much about music. A lot of the time her comments mirrored what another judge said. Keep Kara and Randy and add someone else from the business, just not Brett Michaels. I like the Harry Connick Jr suggestion.

  5. I never had much of a problem with Kara - although I was horrified by that song she made the two finalists sing - No Boundaries or something? Made me question her "talent".

  6. get rid of Randy. dawg. his Talent" hasn't been relevant for over 30 years.

  7. I much rather see Kara than Nigel. At least she writes music and sings. I wouldn't watch it with Ellen, Randy and Nigel. Ew.

  8. Kara didn't add much to it, so she won't be missed. She might even be relieved to be off such a sinking ship.

  9. Meh... I don't care one way or the other. I haven't watched since Sanjaya :P

  10. Love the "buh bye" sketch! I thought of it as I got off the plane last week. The flight attendant said absolutely nothing, gave a smirk and motioned her arm to the exit. I think a "buh bye" from her was probably too much effort.

  11. But she's not definitely out yet, is she?

She drives me crazy, but I think she has great songwriting cred and a lot of her criticisms were spot-on this year. Certainly better than last year.

  12. I'm glad she's leaving.
    She's annoying!

  13. I hope Nigel doesn't join the judging panel. I think Harry Connick Jr. would be great.

  14. Enty - That was one of MY favorite SNL skits when I was younger. Loved the one w/ Helen Hunt. I still say "Buh-Bye"...

I hope they replace her with someone good...I still say it is NEVER going to have the same dynamic now that Simon is gone. :(

  15. I read Chris Issak might be in the running. I would actually start watching if they gave him the job.

  16. She does have some industry cred, but like someone else said, she really erred badly with that ghastly "No Boundaries" song. Ick! I love that when Kris Allen won, Adam Lambert appeared overjoyed, and actually whispered to Allen, "Now you have to sing that song!"

A producer or record with a huge track record like Don Ienner would be a great choice. The public would not have any preconceptions, but the show could regain some credibility. Who had heard of Simon before American Idol? They had such a cheap budget when they started that Paula Abdul was their celebrity. Randy was a musician, Simon was the record exec and Paula represented the celebrity. If they went back to that formula, they would not have to waste money. They need someone who knows talent, knows the business, and who can say "You suck" or "You're great" and have some credibility behind it.

  17. I will be OVERJOYED if Kara is taken off Idol. Her gross flirtations with the contestants and with Simon was so desperate and uncomfortable. She also came off crazy insecure the first season she was on and had the ongoing argument with the teen who auditioned in a bikini. Embarrassing.

  18. Doesn't matter, Idol is DOA without Simon.

For the record, Kara is 100x better than Randy and Ellen combined, and that ain't sayin' much.

  19. i didn't mind kara. she's ok AND she has the street and professional cred for the job. ita tho that idol is dunzo w/o simon...

  20. When Kara was relying on her industry knowledge/experience in her first season, she was good. Last season, when she was desperately pawing Simon to try to take over Paula's schtick, she lost me with her desperation.

I wish they'd get rid of Randy. His comments are asinine and haven't been original since season 1. Ellen is clearly not at all knowledgeable about the industry, but she's at least funny.

IMHO, without Simon, they don't have any hope. The rest of the judges are the 'grin and bear it' part, to Simon's great judging.

  21. I disliked Kara the first season but she totally redeemed herself last season. Her comments were spot-on and she was the only judge who paid attention and actually gave coherent advice. Randy is OK, Simon looked bored the entire season and was obviously phoning it in, and Ellen was a colossal fail. She was uncomfortable to watch. She had no idea what to say and had no relevant critiques the entire season.

I agree that there is no replacing Simon. Fox shouldn't just go for the big name for someone to fill his spot; they should get another "unknown" tell-it-like-it-is music exec. You can't tell me there aren't at least a couple who could fill that void. As a last resort though, I think they should go with Quentin Tarantino. He was excellent when he guest judged in the past.

  22. I like her and think she gives good comments. I would (maybe) watch AI this year if she were judging but without her and Simon, I'm gone.
