The Party Has Stopped For Party Down

Yesterday Starz announced that it was canceling Party Down and Gravity. I have never seen Gravity, but Party Down was one of my favorite shows on television. Although it took a few episodes to be sucked in, once you did, you could not live without it. Very smart writing and very, very dry comedy, it was brilliant. Critics loved it which means of course that no one watched it.

Part of the problem was that Jane Lynch left for Glee but was replaced by the amazing Megan Mullaly and then Adam Scott left for Parks & Recreation. Despite the defection of talent, the writing was still brilliant and it was filled with great guest stars every week. I hope the fact that it was canceled does not dissuade Paul Rudd from creating another show because he had a great idea and I hope he keeps them coming.

  1. I'd say it's biggest problem was that it was on Starz. Too bad Showtime doesn't pick it up, it would be a great fit there. I loved it but only watched on Netflix or the free episodes on Starz.com.

  2. Boo!! My friend worked on this show in it's 1st Season as a 1st AD. He was hoping to jump back on-board for Season 3. Bummer. Oh well.

  3. I loved Party Down it was so sarcastic and funny.

Gravity had some nice moments but never really got any momentum and Eric Schaffer hogged the screen as much as possible. Never let this man write and create a series. All he does is make it about himself.

  4. Damn. :( I agree Little Miss, if it had been on USA or something it might have done better. Man, I would have loved to see a Psych/Party Down pairing!

  8. Love love love Party Down. I thought I was going to give birth when Constance and Kyle were working the senior mixer and going on about how grossed out they were at the thought of old people having sex. I will add the show to the Gone Too Soon shrine, along with The Comeback and Greg the Bunny. At least Two and a Half Men was renewed for its eighth season. Ugh.

  11. I'm gutted! Loved this show. Gravity was terrible though. Premise was interesting and it could have been good but the pacing was off and the direction was mince.

  12. I never watched Gravity but I really loved Party Down. I didn't find it until the second season but once I did I watched the first season back to back in one night. What a crime that such a sarcastically funny show didn't make it right when Roman had his script committed to toilet paper.
