John Mayer Quits Twitter

Normally I don't think I would notice if a celebrity quit Twitter or not. I do know that most of them can't stay away from it once they have amassed a following and when they say they are going to quit they only do for a couple of days. John Mayer though has turned off his Twitter. To me this is really surprising. Yes, I know he has other ways to communicate thoughts and opinions, but for a musician who relies on sales and concert tickets to make money it is tough to give up 3.7M potential record and ticket buyers. Just like that they are gone.

He says that he likes using his blog more to communicate with fans. That is great, but he only has like 50,000 people following his blog. Plus, even though he can be a big pain in the butt at least he actually was the one writing on his Twitter. No publicists, no PR, it was all him all the time. The good, the bad and the ugly.

  1. Gonna miss him on there. He's kinda been gone for a few months already, tweeting only on occasion.

  4. Maybe it's because he can edit his blog before posting anything, avoiding word-vomit.

  5. @Jess - I think you are right....

That's fine if he wants to quit but he better not go back to it in another month....that annoys me more than hearing his rants.

  8. I liked his blog. Like SFG said, he talks about some good things sometime and not just inane Hollywood bullshit.

  9. I wonder if he got sober. One of the most important things about maintaining sobriety is wrestling one's ego to the curb. Can't very well do manic TWITTER all day and have a healthy-sized (by that I mean NORMAL sized) ego. The two are mutually exclusive.

If this is the case, good for him. I think a lot of his outrageous assinie public statements were made under the influence of something.

  12. I wish more celebrities would quit Twitter. Twitter really shows how stupid they are-look at Scott Baio and Ice-Tea. I like to have some illusion around my celebs and Twitter takes it all away.
