Rodney King Marrying Juror From His Trial

Rodney King, who became famous after his 1991 beating by police officers, is marrying a juror from the trial which awarded him almost $4M. Yep. Juror number 5. She says that she and Rodney had their first date the day after the trial ended and they have always tried to keep their relationship a secret. They dated for many years and then they split for awhile when Rodney was on Celebrity Rehab. Now though they are getting married.

Rodney was only going to get about $100K and Juror #5, Cynthia Kelley talked the other jurors into giving Rodney a big award. "During deliberations, the other jurors said, 'Let's just award him $100,000, you know he's just gonna blow it anyway. It was a blessing that I was even there, the other jurors didn't want to give him anything."

For Rodney's part he says that he can't live without her. "She is a godsend, a blessing in my life. I don't know what I would have done without her in my life... I can't wait to make her my wife!"

The couple has not set a date. It is a very interesting story. I would like to know how they came to have a date the day after the trial ended.

  2. Rodney looks thin in that pic. Not like he looked on Celebrity Rehab. Is he OK? Anybody know?? Still sober? I hope so.

  3. Hasn't Rodney been in legal trouble virtually non-stop since the infamous beating? It seems the only time he's in the news is because he's been arrested for something. I doubt that he'd make a good husband.

  4. This whole story seems off to me. So this woman single-handedly convinced the rest of the jury (who sound like jerks, if her words are to be believed) to up the award from $100,000 to $4 million? Those are some powerful persuasive powers.

  6. If that jury was anything like the jury I was on that awarded money, it's much more complicated than "let's give $100K". There are formulas based on degrees of guilt, pain and suffering, etc. to consider. An amount is not up to the jurors, specifically. That agreement could take a lot of time.

They should have kept this info to themselves. Why invite criticism to their love? If I knew more, it might smell of golddiggerism and/or conspiracy. Or it could be like marrying the clerk who sold you the winning lotto ticket.

    Wish them well, tho.

  7. Interesting that she claims to have persuaded the other jurors to up his award and then starts dating him?

I wonder how much of his settlement money is left...

  8. This is wrong in so many ways. I agree, they should have kept this info to themselves.

You think she's bragging about getting him more money so she can take it in the divorce?

  9. That's one way to find a mate. I'm going to keep an open mind the next time I'm on jury duty.

  11. Didn't he get that money years ago? Is there any left? $4 million after taxes, legal fees and addiction probably doesn't go very far.

  13. poor Rodney King, never chose his fate, but he did just survive barely. Let's hope he finds love and happiness.

  14. Although they awarded him that much money, he was pretty much broke the second he walked out of the courtroom. It should be noted the SOB was on PCP when he was pulled over and the Taser malfunctioned. He's lucky he didn't get shot from the outset, it would have saved a bunch of good cops from getting their reps ruined.
