Even Kim Kardashian Thinks A $1M Cake Is Ridiculous

When I first read that Nino Selimaj of NYC eatery Nino had made a $1M cake to present as a gift to Kim Kardashian I thought it had to be an exaggeration or misprint. But, it so happens it was true and that Nino was going to give a jewel encrusted cake worth $1M to Kim for her 30th birthday. That is insane. Not only because I can't figure out why he would do it, but because it is so wasteful. Yes, he would get publicity and more diners, but not a $1M worth of new diners. Plus, would you really want to give someone who is almost a complete stranger a $1M? Why?

To her credit, Kim actually made a decent statement about the situation. "This is the first I've heard about this. I would never allow anyone to spend that much money on a cake. Making a million dollar birthday cake is just ridiculous! I'd rather they give me a cupcake and donate the rest of the money to the homeless!"

For once, and probably the last time I have to say that I am in total agreement with Kim Kardashian. However, the cake is made, so Nino has decided to sell slices of it to his customers. What do you think each slice will sell for? $5000?

  3. she is still charging 2500 bucks a table to sit in the room with her at her bday party tonight, so she does not get my respect.

she will never have my respect though. she is a vapid idiot.

  4. $2500 bucks a table to sit in a room with her? Good grief - what do you have to pay to breathe the same air - $100?

  5. From ology.com:

"The jeweler is going to encrust the cake with loose diamonds worth over a million dollars," said Danielle Orsino, a spokesperson for Glo . "Their goal is to break the record for the most expensive cake ever made which was 1.65 million dollars."

KK is notoriously acquisitive and must have made that statement because she wouldn't get to keep the diamonds.

  8. This doesn't surprise me. Designers and the like are always throwing free items her way so that they can be featured in Kneepads.

  9. Between this and the Real Housewives post, I am just sick. I know so many people who have lost their jobs (I'm a former newspaper gal, and well that industry is so dying) and people wasting money on this frivolous shit just drives me insane. I'm all for free economy and spending money on what you want, but this over-indulgence sickens me. At least Kim K suggested the money go to charity. Hopefully, that came from her heart.

  10. Oh come on! So she doesn't spend tons of dollars on fricking purses! I know it's just a cake but it's also just a handbag.

  11. "Hopefully that came from her heart." Heart...?
Talk about, "Let them eat cake!"? This bitch puts Marie Antoinette to shame.

  12. The inside of the cake is not what is costing the million dollar price tag, it's the jewels on the outside. And I'd like to just throw out there, that I'm sure that the estimated retail value of the jewels is over a million, but then mark-up in the fine jewelery business is notoriously high. That said, I'm sure (depending on how large this cake was supposed to be) even at wholesale, the loose stones would be expensive, it's not going to be nearly the same amount of $$$ when you look at wholesale vs retail cost.

Just a finely played publicity stunt that bought Nino more PR than he could have even hoped for. I bet his agency or agent got a hefty fee for this generating the press it did.

  15. I wish people would stop posting about this person and her equally annoying family. I can't even stand to look at that plastic face of hers anymore. Make them go away.

  16. Please, like Kim herself would say that. You know her big greedy butt would love a $1M cake, it was her publicist or whatever advising her to say otherwise and decline said cake.
