Jessica Simpson Says She Could Have Been Proposed To Before Nick & Vanessa

After blowing off David Letterman Monday night due to illness, cough cough, Jessica made it to Jimmy Fallon last night. While there she said that her soon to be husband actually bought the engagement ring about three weeks before he actually asked her to marry him. You know, three weeks, as in one week before Nick asked Vanessa to marry him. Kind of convenient isn't it? Jessica says that her boyfriend hid the ring in his shoe for the three weeks. During that time he spoke to Jessica's mom and dad and sister to advise them of his plans. I love Jimmy a lot, but I wanted him to ask some questions like if this Eric guy works and how he managed to scrape up $150K. I know I keep harping on that, but that is a lot of money for anyone, especially one who does not have a job.

Also, for a former NFL player he does not really eat like one. Jessica says that her boyfriend is a vegan so they are going to have some kind of tofu turkey. Listen, if you are a vegan or vegetarian, more power to you, but don't do the fake looking turkey thing, just enjoy some great vegetable dishes and do the rest of the sides. I have been to some homes in the past where they have the tofu shaped turkey and it just looks odd. Fry up some tofu and I will eat that, but soft tofu shaped into some gelatinous mass is not appealing at all.

  1. He isn't the only vegan athlete. It can be done. Here's a list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vegans#Athletes

  2. You do keep harping on it. You're starting to sound like a jealous ex boyfriend. His last job wasn't Burger King.

  3. You win, Jessica. Your man was totally going to propose first. /eyeroll

Agree about the tofu turkey thing, Ent. I think we veg's do it to make the meat-eaters feel like there's a "main protein", it's not really for us. I've done a tofurkey and a seitan roast but I'm done trying to make something look like meat for everyone else! And when I eat at a place where they're doing turkey, I'm perfectly happy just eating all the sides. Still stuff myself sick!

  4. I laughed and laughed about Mike Tyson being a vegan. He's a vegan only when he's not eating people. Heh.

why would Jimmy ask questions like that? maybe you could get that kid who did the red carpet to chase jess and her beau down with a camera and ask how he paid for the ring??

  7. Tofurky reminds me Turkey Bacon. It's just not the same.

  8. Ok, this kind of stories make me hard to believe she's really happy, it's just pathetic.

  9. who carries a ring in their shoe for 3 weeks?? Seriously?

  10. I was engaged to a vegan for 3 years. Tofurkey and Soy cheese pizza all the time. As soon as I left him he started eating meat and real cheese etc. I was soooo pissed. :)

  11. who.gives.a.fuck? so you're saying if she had said "I bought my ring because it is something that I wanted and I have the money, and since married people typically get married and share anyway, who the fuck cares," then you wouldn't still be talking shit? Doubtful

  12. When it comes to men, my values may differ from JSimp. But yeah, I'm trying to drum up caring about what she does with her money. Even if there is a iron-clad prenup and she wants to spend a little dough, so be it.

  13. Some of the healthiest, most athletic people I know are vegans (mostly raw). At the same time, some of the most sickly people I have ever met are vegans - it's all about what you know about nutrition and how you use that knowledge to nourish your body for whatever activites you do.

I don't like tofu so I won't eat it, but I agree with RQ - things like that are usually put on the table to make meat eaters feel better *L*.

  14. When I was vegetarian I used to eat those tofurky roasts at Thanksgiving, and I loved them. If no one else wanted any (and they didn't!) fine, more for me. I love tofu and seitan. There were lots of other vegetable dishes to eat with it.

I never lectured or looked down my nose at omnivores when I was a vegetarian and I don't do the same to vegetarians now that I'm omnivorous. It's just plain rude to tell anyone how or what they should or should not eat unless it's something downright dangerous (like rare hamburger or chicken, etc.)

  15. This kind of interview is why I think she should have waited to announce her engagement. People constantly questioning her motives for a "me too" engagement take the fun out of being engaged. When I got engaged I didn't want to share the spotlight with anyone, least of all an ex!

  16. I guess she's going to have to lose that "Real Women eat Meat" t shirt she wore when she was with Romo.

  17. "I know I keep harping on that,"

    yes, you do. over it.

is no one going to be happy until this ends in tears? or completely destroys their relationship like the media did to Brit and Kfed? she loved that dude until ALL the bloggers and magazines starting trying to make her look like she was being used. I think a lot of her paranoia was started like this too.

  18. Tofurkey has improved over the years. It's quite good these days. However, if the weather is still crappy tomorrow, my Tofurkey stays in the freezer 'cause I'm not driving to my sister's in this mess. I'll whip out the curry instead (with cashews!) and a glass or two of wine.

  19. jax - I agree. I think the split with KFed literally destroyed Brittany. :( And I don't get the hostility towards Jessica. Ashley, maybe (I saw that McDonald's clip) because let's face it, that no-talent rode in on her sister's coattails. I want this sweet girl to be happy. I hope she's found her love, if not forever, then at least for a few years. She deserves it. The girl's harmed no one.

  20. @MadLyb - your curry sounds better than the Tofurkey! We should swap recipes :)
As for Jessica - I like her, but I don't think she's very bright. I have no hostility towards her, just towards those that might be taking advantage.
I don't think we can say it was the media that split Britney/Kevin - that marriage was doomed from the start, as I think, is this one.

  21. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ENTY ABOUT THE TOFUCKEY.

    just had to scream it.

    that is all.

  22. Eh, Jessica may be a sweet girl, but she's also vapid and ignorant. I say bring it on.

  23. He's a vegan? Oh, it'll never work. Isn't this the same girl who wore a "Real Women Eat Meat" t-shirt and waxes rhapsodic about macaroni and cheese?

Although, Jessica is probably trying to be a vegan now too. She strikes me the kind of woman who instantly starts to like everything her boyfriend likes.

  26. @lanasyogamama - Was totally thinking the same thing.

I have several vegan/vegetarian friends who love the tofurkey. I love tofu, so I figure I would probably like it. I had no idea it was shaped like an actual bird though? Seems like that would defeat the purpose for those not eating meat b/c of animal rights issues...??

  27. Wow, that's a really ignorant thing to say, Jamie's Girl.

@MCH - it's not really shaped like a turkey - I don't think Enty has seen one :) It's more like a big oval ball with stuffing on the inside.

  28. @RocketQueen - LOL. Good. I have never seen a tofurkey in person so I wasn't sure but since all other fake meat is shaped like the real thing I just assumed. :)
