I remember Penny having some type of health issue as well. Perhaps she is on meds that made her gain weight. I don't like to pass judgement unless its confirmed one is a sloth.

Poor Penny. Looks to me like she's maybe on steroids or has a thyroid problem like Linda Ronstadt. You can't lose weight no matter what with those kind of things going on. At least she looks happy!

ReplyDeleteSeeing Shaq in that picture makes me think of how the other night I accidentally (I swear, I don't know how it got to that channel) watched several episodes of Basketball Wives (I was knitting and didn't want to get up and look for the remote). Those bitches are crazier than my Real Housewife Boo's!!! Shaq's wife got all crazy on this girl and ran her out of a restaurant. Then there is one girl who thinks she is Gods' gift (Suzie, I think?) but she has a crazy mouth/lisp like she sucked out of a bottle until she was 20 and it jacked up her teeth. Anyway, OT, I just could not believe I had never had the pleasure of watching that filth.

ReplyDeletewhat does that mean? come on. there's nothing wrong with saying penny marshall is overweight--she is. if we get to the point where we can't SAY that, then there's no point to the fight against obesity, which is costing millions of dollars and shortening lives in this country.
i looked it up and there were rumors she had a brain tumor and then liver cancer. i can't see where she's ever confirmed either.
there are some cancer treatments that DO make you gain weight. had a friend who gained a lot of weight during her breast cancer chemo. that may be what's going on with penny.

chihuahuense-I watched that episode too! And not to defend Shaunie(she was out of control)but the girl she went psycho on(Gloria)has an older sister(Laura Govan) who was Shaq's sidepiece and the the final straw on their marriage.I did think that Gloria handled herself well.

Strangely, my first thought was, were there ever rumors about Pennys sexuality? The woman is up in years, I think at some point you should be allowed to stop starving yourself.
We watched a couple of movies the other day, late 90s I think. It was just before heroin chic hit hard. The women in the movies had flesh and curves and were a whopping size 2 or maybe even a 4! The stars are walking a fine line between shockingly thin and anorexic and we consider it normal?
Did you know that most of them dont even look good in person? They look bony and frail!

@jbeebs--I guess that explains some of her rant, but she still acted like a junior high girl. I couldn't believe it. She's probably the same kinda lady (and I use that term loosely) that talks about how women need to be there for women blah blah blah a la Camille Grammar.

ReplyDeleteI don't know who Penny is, and it's lovely that so many people say it must be medical, that it can't be her fault that she's the size she is... but it totally can be.
ReplyDeleteMy mother is that size and while yes, there are health problems, it's the weight that's caused the problems not the problems that have caused the weight.
Not that I'm saying she's a lazy ass either, I just don't think we can really say WHY she might be unless we know what is going on.
We can, however, make observations: she is overweight.
Weight arguements annoy the hell out of me!
