Steven Tyler vs Jennifer Lopez

Apparently Jennifer Lopez wants to be the focus of American Idol and feels like Steven Tyler is getting all the attention and praise. Here is what I think after watching 30 minutes here and there of each episode. One thing I never thought I would ever say in a million years even if you had starved me for a week and were holding a barrel of bacon in front of me. Jennifer has looked really beautiful. When she does not go for that stupid eye squint look and with whatever lighting they are using on the show, she looks better than I have ever seen her look. Steven? Well he looks like a guy who has partied for the last 40 years.

I can see Jennifer wanting to be in charge. She likes to be the one who seems to be making the decisions or the first to talk. She is almost always the person who stops the singer. For some reason, the way she does it irritates me, but it is a small criticism. You need someone like Steven though because Randy has gone into quiet mode. I don't know if he was just seeing how this would all play out, but between Steven trying to get all the attention and Jennifer trying to get the rest, there is not much left for Randy to do or say.

I don't think Steven is doing it out of spite, I just think he has been a lead singer for 40 years and is used to taking charge and being loud and the center of attention. Last week I thought he was going to have sex with that fan of his right there in the audition room.

  1. jello drives me nuts...steven is a hoot and randy seems to be trying to fill the "nasty mean" shoes left by simon. I just hope to hell he doesn't start wearing v-neck see-thru shirts.

  2. And there it is. You just knew this feud was coming. They didn't even make it to regular competition shows before it broke out.

  3. Stephen has been hilarious - he's saving the season from the otehr two boring duds.

  4. While my long hours on gossip websites have made me mistrust Lopez, it usually just takes a few minutes of her beautiful face and sweet voice for me to fall in love with her again. I feel like a rat being hypnotized by a cobra, but I fall prey to her charm every time. Except for Gigli. And a few other stinkers.

  5. AI is boring w/out Simon & Paula.

    Jlo brings nothing to AI.
    She can't sing!

I don't think Steve Tyler is that great.

    It's one big snooze fest

  6. Steve has been surprising entertaining. I actually enjoy watching AI again, and really only because he has brought something new to the table.

  7. I have to say I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would, even J-Lo. I think Steven is hilarious, although at times, a little bit unpredictable/inappropriate.

I think Randy is being quiet b/c it seems like half the people that audition come in oooohing and ahhhing over the other two judges.

I like that one kid in the overalls that claimed she was his favorite actress. Yea right.

  9. It was sooo funny in my living room last week when Steven and Randy joined one of the contestants in siging a (Marvin Gaye, I think) song and Jennifer's lips were literally glued shut.

  10. I won't watch AI anymore because i think she's genuinely a nasty, selfish person and I don't ever want to support her projects again. And what she's doing there in the first place escapes me. SHE gets to critique SINGING? Please.

  11. Really? J.Lo wants to be the center of attention? I am so shocked!

I don't know why this stupid show is still on the air. It peaked about 5 years ago.

  12. J.Lo has a sweet voice???

I'm pretty sure most of the singers there sing better than she does

  13. I watched one night last week and think Steven Tyler is a hoot! I do agree with @MCH that some of his comments are inappropriate and he does seem to be a bit of a "letch" with a few of the pretty groupie-type contestants. (Enty and I must be thinking of the same fan/contestant). However, he does bring a new spark to the show and maybe he thinks he needs to act like a "rock star".

J-Lo definitely acts like a diva and is not my favorite, although she is not as annoying as I thought she would be. Guess we'll have to see what happens between these two!

  14. I don't watch...but I've met Steven Tyler...I was never a fan, but the man just reeks charm....you either have it or you don't.

  15. I have come to love me some Steven Tyler. Confidence is a very charming attribute sometimes.

  16. JLo & Steve dont belong there. What were they thinking? You can't put all those egos up there and expect good results. It's not the JLo or Steve Tyler show...it's supposed to be about the singers and who become Idol. The judges should just do their job and stop trying to make it all about them. They need producers up there (like Randy), not losers trying to revive their own career,.

  17. I watched about 20 minutes of the auditions recently for the first time in years. WEIRD VIBE!

  18. I was going to give up on Idol this year because last year it was such a drag, and I thought Simon really made the show. But when they announced my favorite lead singer, Steven Tyler, was going to be a judge, I had to try it again. So far, as early as it is, I think I'm hooked again.

  19. If JLO would just pick up where Paula left off, it would be fine. Steven is picking up where Randy left off, and Randy is picking up where Simon left off.

J Lo needs to go with the flow, and she will rise above all this garbage.

  20. I've been surprised with how good AI is this year. Steven opens his mouth and weird just falls out. Randy has gotten away from alot of the "dawg" crap he did every other word before. And JLo is more charming than I expected. The show had fallen into a trap the last couple of years, with everyone saying the same stupid stuff. This year seems to have new blood.

That said, I am not surprised JLo/Steven stories are coming out. She has an ego the size of Australia, and he is more laid back than her crap. Randy has been irrelevant since day 1, nothing new there.

  21. I love Steven Tyler. He has no filters, whatever is on his mind just comes out. It really makes for a more interesting season.

I've always thought JLo was the object of that unrevealed blind about the A list singer who couldn't really sing and has paid someone else to do it. Remember, she started as a dancer on "In Living Color"...Her rep as a diva just sort of makes her "meh" and yeah, Randy is quiet compared to prior years.

Dump JLo, get someone else next year. What possessed them to hire her in the first place? zomg >.<

  22. I've watched AI for the first time in years because of Steven Tyler. I think he comes across as rather genuine, and I truly like the fact that he gets into what the contestants are singing.

It bothers me how often they say yes, though. Once Hollywood happens, it will be interesting because she will like ones he won't and vice versa.

  23. I haven't watched AI since the Kelly years (and even then only a few episodes). I am really enjoying this season though. I know of many others that feel the same way. Go figure. I am really enjoying the chemistry.

  24. I'm another that almost didn't watch and now I'm hooked again. I love Steven and Jennifer has surprised me by how charming she is and she IS just gorgeous lately! What's up with that? I'm nearing 40 and I don't look that good, ha.

  25. I think that Jlo is the answer to the blind of the A list singer too!

She's such a diva. She's one of those "don't look me in the eye" celebrities too.

I do think she has a soft side and really feels for the kids with the down-on-their-luck stories. Steven has such a big personality that he overshadows her. I don't think he can't help himself.

Yes it was funny when they were singing but JLo has yet to sing- just like Paula never sang!

  26. @MCH-that girl from my class was never on. Not even a glimpse so far. Are they still doing auditions or are they in Hollywood? She might be on the Hollywood thing getting cut, because she is in class, so obviously not there.

  27. @chihuahuense - I have been meaning to ask you about her but didn't want to go OT in another thread! There is a Top 40 spoiler list floating around out there that you can check. I think auditions are already over. I want to say they are either already in Las Vegas or Hollywood in real time by this point. I just found out one of my friend's friends is on there & made it thru to Hollywood. I think he is a musician for a living, so hopefully he wasn't cutting corners on a group project back home. :)

  28. I agree, Jennifer has looked spectacular. You can see her inner diva bitch peeking out through the cracks, so I think it's only a matter of time before we get some fun fireworks, especially if she feels that she isn't getting enough attention.

Steven Tyler is doing a good job of being controversial, and the show needs that. If there isn't someone to get upset about, you lose half the press.

This is my first time ever watching AI, and I'm not sure how I feel about Randy yet. He hasn't stood out much.

The worst part so far for me was the way they treated the girl with TBI. I don't know how much of their concern was scripted, but the voices they used made me cringe. Sure, they might have needed to talk slowly to her, but did they have to used the high pitched patronizing tones that made it sound like they were talking to a child or a pet?

  29. @MCH-hahaha! let's hope not, he might have some bad karma coming if he did! My friend (who is also in class) watched the Milwaukee auditions and didn't see her. And the girl has kinda been hanging low in class, so we just assumed that it was over pretty quickly for her. I guess if they are in real-time then that settles it :/

  30. @chihuahuense - I just read online that they are flying to L.A. this weekend. I don't know how they work that when they are in between tapings. Here is a link to the supposed top 40.

  31. @MCH she's not on there.

  32. After all the reports of her diva antics, Jlo is desperate to appear "nice" and "genuine". I think she's a big ol' phony who has probably never changed a diaper, and her fake laugh makes me cringe.

I hate AI but have caught a few minutes here and there, like others, I was curious about JL and ST.

I can't get over how beautiful she is. I'd be happy just to stare at her (and have her jewelry and the boots she wore last week).

ST is annoying. Does he have to sing everything? And his face.... good God. He looks like an old, haggard Julia Roberts. That's some bad plastic surgery.

Personally, I wish JL would become more diva-y. I saw the episode last week with that annoying girl who loved the Packers (I don't care about football but I want them to lose just to piss her off). When the girl started talking about football, I would've loved to see JL just stare blankly instead of being nice.

  34. I've met Steven Tyler, & he is a very effervescent guy. So, yeah.

  35. Steven just seems like a fun person. I think he is just being himself, and I like him. I wasn't sure how he would come across on Idol, but so far so good.
