Blind Item #2 - Kindness

This is just a great story. Earlier this week, two women were having lunch at a place in Toronto when they noticed that a man had sat down. This man, who used to be A+ list back in the day and is still loved by enough people that he is a B list singer and reality star saw them looking at him. They waved and he waved back. This is like their biggest star crush. That would usually be it, but our celebrity, got up from his table, walked over to the two women, sits down and starts chatting with them. He stays and talks to them about his career and answers all of their questions. Then, one of the women asks if she can take his photo and a waiter rushes over and says there is a no photo policy, but our celebrity will have none of that and says of course. He then takes a picture, chats some more and even asks to use one of the stories about him that one of the women shared which he is going to use in his shows. After he left, the restaurant manager came by and said that most celebrities are a-holes but this guy was the greatest and the biggest tipper in a place that gets its share of A list movie stars.

  3. Brett Michaels.

  4. Was Peter Andre ever A list? I remember when he and Katie had that reality show and it was mentioned that he was pretty big in either Australia or England, but I'd never heard of him.
I only thought of him because I remember when that woman on Twitter IvyBean "world's oldest Twitter user" made comments about liking Peter Andre, he came to visit her a lot after that, and took pictures with her and sent her gifts and stuff, until she died.

  5. Somehow I'm thinking Bret Michaels. I don't know, he seems like the kind of guy to do this.

What other singers who aren't as popular as they once were are reality stars?
David Cassidy was on one episode of Celebrity Apprentice, but does he still do shows?

  6. I have a friend who is sort of friends with Peter Andre, tries to see him whenever he performs nearby and stuff. She has really good stories about how generous he has been with her and with many, many of his fans, especially now that he is away from Katie Price. Not sure he was ever really A list though. Also not sure I've heard anything about hm being in Toronto lately.

I'm thinking this has to be a Canadian, but I am drawing a complete blank on names.

  7. As nice a guy as Brett Michaels is, he was never A+ list.

  8. thank you, cancan. i agree.

  10. RocketQueen's MC Hammer...

    Hahahaha

  11. My first thought was Bret Michaels, but I'm not sure he was A+ list. B+/A- list, yes. A+ implies *HUGE*

I'm drawing a blank on who else it could be, though.

  12. Flava FLAAAAAAAAAAV!

    Please?!

  13. LOL @ amoteafloat. And i just TOTALLY said that in my head like you typed it. Makes me laugh every time.

    This is Flava FLAAAAAAAAAAAV!

  14. I like the Snoop Dog guess - especially because he is in the photo's today. Snoop I think is pretty much permanent B-list, and don't most people say that he is actually quite cool?

    ReplyDelete
  15. xoApril - you got it. this totally fits. KISS = HUGE back in the day. And he has made a fortune from branding everything KISS so that would be motivation to always care about the fans. And he has the family jewels show so that covers the reality part too.

  16. Hi, long time lurker, first time commenter: What about Steven Tyler?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hey Astrid, I was just thinking that, too. He was certainly A+ list during the height of Aerosmith, and now would be B list, reality show being AI. I like that guess - and I do think he would do something like this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Astrid! Welcome, and I think you nailed it! Tyler was A+ until the mid-nineties, probably. And he honestly comes across as pretty sweet on the footage I've seen of the new season.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Welcome Astrid! Like your guess a LOT and getting on your train.
I don't think Gene Simmons could ever be called a singer, could he?

    ReplyDelete
  20. My first thought was Don Johnson. But, no, it doesn't really fit. I like the Gene guess except for the "biggest star crush". Hmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why does this have to be a blind?

  22. Love it when lurkers post. I lurked for a long time Jump in Lurkers!

  23. and im off to email my friend in toronto to see what she knows....

  24. Thank you for the welcomes. I love this blog and have been meaning to comment for awhile.

  25. Not the Hoff, he was a jerk at his own fundraiser for a children's hospital. Of course, he was drunk at the time so maybe if he was sober...

Def not Don Johnson. He was a complete d*ck when he was asked to participate in my son's Make-A-Wish, stating that he didn't want any little freaks running around the studio while he was trying to film. That was in Miami Vice days, but nobody changes that much, no matter how much time has passed.

  26. David Cassidy is a dick

    ReplyDelete
  27. I like the Steven Tyler guess too but would he be in Toronto when AI is filming so heavily? The blind says earlier this week.

  28. Donny Osmond was in Toronto Monday to promote his and Maries Vegas show coming this summer. He worked in Toronto for much of the 90s but I'm not sure that would explain the waiter knowing and liking him. DWTS would be the reality show if this is him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I met Gene Simmons once and he was an asshole. Doubt this is him. Unless, the women were hot and he was hitting on them. Ok, yeah, maybe it was him. Was the waitress who got the big tip hot also?

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's Canadian Music Fest week in Toronto this week, so there are alot of celebs in town. Sammy Hagar is in town promoting his new book and movie, but I don't know if he would have been A+...

  32. Donny Osmond was in Toronto on Monday, announcing at a press conference that his show is coming to the city in July. He was A+ list in the day and there are probably some women out there who still love him. And he is currently performing in shows, was on reality, and is a nice guy (right? I don't know but I thought that was his whole deal.)

So...while I'd like it to be Steven Tyler, it seems to fit Donny Osmond more.

    ReplyDelete
  33. yea I really don't think it could be Steven Tyler...he would be in the middle of American Idol craziness and if he went, wouldn't paparazzi be all over him considering he's so in the spotlight now? I think Donny Osmond fits MUCH better as well.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why no reveal? He deserves to be known.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I live in Toronto and Donny Osmond is in Town promoting some upcoming shows. Sounds like him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. what about Brian Adams? He's a Canadian native. Not sure about a reality show though....

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jordan Knight is supposedly in town for the Music week.

    ReplyDelete
  38. First person that popped into my head was David Cassidy

    ReplyDelete
  39. Brian Adams is a gigantic jerk.

I'm going to buck the trend and agree with the Meatloaf guess. He was a big deal when I was in my teens and 20s. He still sells records, and he's doing reality TV. He's also a very dear, sweet, charming man.

  41. Donny Osmond FTW.

"Loved by enough people" and if these women are in the 45-60 age range, he would have been a total crush. About as A++++++ list as they came back in the day.

I like the David Cassidy guess, too; I just don't know if he was in Toronto. And Donny would totally go and sit and talk to someone.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I doubt if the answer to the BI is Brian Adams, but for what it's worth, I used to work in a restaurant in NYC and one night Brian Adams & his date were seated next to a couple celebrating a birthday. He sang Happy Birthday (mellow, ballad-like) to them and they were absolutely delighted. It was incredibly sweet and certainly memorable for the birthday couple!

  43. I was going to say Vanilla Ice but I like the Donny Osmond guess.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Completely off topic, but Sheen's being raided this very minute by the LAPD: http://gawker.com/#!5780869

    ReplyDelete
  45. Donny Osmond, I love that guess because if I was at a restaurant and he was eating alone, I would absolutely wave at him, and tell him how my bestie and I used to sing along to his first solo album when we were 9. I can absolutely believe that this is him.

    ReplyDelete
  46. What's FTW stand for?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I've met Snoop Dogg and he's super nice and very charming.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @sweetsmellofexcess, I'm glad others have had a nice experience with Brian. He may well be nice to fans. The stories I've heard were all from professional settings.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I ran into Bryan Adams very recently at an industry event and I can tell you that this is NOT him.

Had it been him he would have tried to get the fans to come back and have a threesome with him. He is without questions, a total pig.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I immediately thought David Cassidy as well, but I am jumping on the Donny Osmond bandwagon. Sounds like something he would do.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I previously worked with a number of people in the business - musicians and producers - and every single one of them, all from varying areas of the music business, had nothing but respect and admiration for Donny Osmond as a very kind, pleasant man and a true professional.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Alright, now that the expression has been explained to everyone - Danny FTW! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. This is NOT David Cassidy. I've worked with him before, and he was a diva of the highest order. I'm on the Donny Osmond train.

    ReplyDelete
  54. fade2black: "little freaks running around?" Wow. I guess it's true that Don Johnson has a big dick and IS a big dick.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Donny Osmond sounds right, I read on one site they were talking about putting him on 2.5 men!

    ReplyDelete
  56. David Cassidy is a complete creep. He's married and was hitting on my friend. He's gross.

Whoever this person is, has to live in Toronto, because the waiter said he was the best tipper out of all the celebrities that frequent the place. Doesn't Brett Michaels and Michael Bolton live in LA?

  59. Bryan Adams or Sabastian Bach.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sebastian Bach...he had a reality show and is Canadian.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Donny Osmond or Meatloaf - they're both sweethearts.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sebastian Bach has been with Camp Freddy the last week and in LA the week before that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hmmm Fred Durst? Marilyn Manson?
    Insane Clown Posse?

So many great people come to mind, it's hard to pick!

    <:-D

    ReplyDelete
  64. I've met Donny O and he's a sweetheart. He would absolutely do something like this!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think the restaurant is
Sassafraz in Yorkville. My vote is for Donny as well. He was in town for two days doing press.

When this place was the Bellair Cafe, I used to bartend there. Lots of celebrities would come in whenever they were in town. Donny has worked in Toronto before for an extended period of time.

Sebastian Bach is a jerk as is Gene Simmons. I had good experiences with Bryan Adams, but then again we knew a lot of people in common, so that may have affected our interactions.

    ReplyDelete
  66. crila16 - doesn't have to be living in Toronto, could be a frequent visitor. Donny did live there while doing Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.

And they call it ... puppy lo-o-o-ove.

I wonder if it could be Gordon Lightfoot, but he's a rather private individual.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was on Freecycle earlier & someone was giving up their BrYan Adams tickets. Gave me a giggle. Couldn't even sell them??

Hmm...I like the Donny O guess.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm totally on the Donny Osmond train. When I was pregnant and unable to see his show at the Fox Theater in Detroit for health reasons, he called me. (My husband was the manager of the Theater at the time.) I nearly drove off the road when he said, "Hi, this is Donny Osmond." Not only did he chat with me and listen to my proclamations of love from the age of 4 on, he sent home a bouquet of roses and an autographed photo. He didn't have to do any of that so I can totally see him doing this.

    Yay for the good guy!
