Blind Item - Kindness

This television host used to be one of the brightest stars. Then, some bad career and girlfriend choices led him to what almost seemed like permanent exile. He was still on the air, but no one ever watched. Maybe he changed his karma though because things have started to get better. All that time he spends visiting cancer patients of all ages probably helps. With no cameras and no prompting, our host tries to spend about 10 hours a week visiting with patients and cheering them up. When you think about celebrities sentence to community service who always complain to the judge about how they are busy and blah blah blah. This guy does this of his own free will and does at least 10 hours a week and is way more busy than the whiners who get arrested all the time.

  1. Um. Carson Daly? Don't laugh at me! But he's dated some women I would NEVER want to befriend in real life, and for a while he was everywhere. Didn't he kinda have a drug addiction for a while, too?

Whoever he is, what an awesome dude. :-) I love the kindness blinds!

  2. Drew Carey is my first guess...?
    Otherwise, Wayne Brady?

  3. jeff probst - the exile comment cemented it for me.

  4. No idea who this is but he's an awesome dude !

  5. I was thinking Wayne Brady too. Seemed like he had a super bright future in front of him and then kind of faded. Don't know if the other details fit.

  6. I was thinking Drew Carey too.

  7. how could Drew Carey be considered in permanent exile? He's filthy rich from his giant hit show, when he tours he sells out, and he chose to do Price is Right and is on tv every single day.

  8. Aren't drew Carey and Jeff Probst still on the air?

  9. Drew and Wayne are both good guesses! I can't decide on either though. It's the bad girlfriend comment that is making it tough to decide. I can't come up with any memorable girlfriend stuff for them.

  10. Jeff Probst is incredibly successful these days - producing now, too.

    Arsenio Hall?

  11. Definitely Carson Daly. TRL used to be HUGE - I remember rushing home after school in middle school to watch it. He dated Jennifer Love Hewitt and Tara Reid - both bad girlfriend choices. He host(ed?) Last Call, which came on AFTER Late Night with Conan/Falon... I don't know of a single person that actually watched it and many affiliates didn't even air it. Things are definitely turning around for him, since he's the host of The Voice now and is married (to a non-celebrity).

  12. carson daly immediately popped into my head... esp. with the girlfriend thing and he is suddenly working again with the voice. i don't believe i've heard of him on anything in the last couple years.

whoever it is, good for them! setting a great example of what you can do with your fame to help people. i know lindsay is a permanent gutter-rat at this point, but if she ever has a change of heart- she could def. use the good karma!

  13. Bad girlfriend fits in much better with Carson too. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Tara Reid if I recall correctly?

Is Last Call totally off the air now?

  14. I had thought of Arsenio Hall, but I also thought Arsenio was gay. Carson Daly is still around (doing the Voice) ... what "bad career" choices would they have made? Bad Career choice would be Jennifer Lopez walking away from American Idol since the show has resurrected her career which had been on life support. Fortunately, ENTY reveals the kindness blinds. Those are much better than the salacious ones for me.

  15. I think we have a winner with Carson. His father died of bladder cancer when he was only 6 and his mother is a breast cancer survivor.

    Whomever this is, God Bless.

  16. I think it is Carson Daly, too. All the clues fit. I think the bad career choices refer to basically failing to capitalize on what was, at one time, a very hot career. 12-15 years ago, every magazine on the planet was naming him the next Dick Clark. Then he just disappeared. The Voice is helping to bring him back. I hope whoever it is has good things happen to him.

  17. Yay! I felt ridiculous for even suggesting him at first. ;-)

He comes across as pretty likeable on The Voice, honestly.

  18. I've always liked Carson, he got his start on KROQ here in Los Angeles, so I've been following this guy a long, long time. Hope it's him he's cool.

Yes, Last Call is still on the air. It's actually entertaining, but who can stay up that late? That's what DVR is for.

  19. I think Geroldo Rivera fits this. I don't know about the bad girlfriend choices but I know he made some big career mistakes. Like, when he opened the safe of a former mobster on live TV and there was nothing in it. And I'm sure there is more but he's alittle bit before my time.

  20. Wayne Brady is hosting let's make a deal, on TV every week day but who watches it? That being said, I agree with Carson Daly. He's been doing Last Call for ages, but its on so late the only people who watch it are the people who are getting up to do the 5 am local news shows. I've seen a few episodes here and there, and its actually not a bad show.

I think the bad career choice may have been leaving TRL for the NBC development deal that didn't end up doing too much for him. He's been okay hosting The Voice, it's not his fault that he's been asked to do some cheesy things here and there, but that show is a verified hit and will be back in January, so yeah, his exposure is increasing again.

  21. Definitely Carson Daly. He also has a current morning radio show in LA on 97.1, so he'd fall in the super busy category

  22. Just googled him to see if there are any other bad career moves (besides leaving TRL) and apparently, he played an important role on the first episode of My Name is Earl. "While in the hospital after being hit by a car, Earl learns about karma from watching an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly where Daly claims that his success is a direct result of doing good things for other people. Earl is thus inspired by Carson Daly to turn his own life around, and sets out to make up for his many past wrongs."

Seems verrrrry similar to the wording of this blind....

  24. Carson Daly. I'm glad things are turning around for him, since he seems like such a nice guy.

  25. I immediately thought Carson too. Good for him and all the people's lives he has touched. Very inspiring.

  26. I like the Carson Daly guess.

  27. Clearly Carson Daly. I'd bet money on it.

  28. I had a crush on him in my younger days. I could never get over the Tara Reid thing. I have watched his late night show before and it's not terrible. It's very music focused, but not bad.

I'd never heard that about his dad but that along w/ all the other clues does sound like him. If so, good for him.

  29. It's obs Carson Daly, but I never thought much of him. HOWEVER, he was supposed to be where Ryan Seacrest is today.

  30. Carson Daly is the first person that came to mind, and it looks like a lot of you thought the same. Good for him!

  31. Saw him on Jimmy Kimmel the other night-apparently he interned or something on Jimmy's old radio show in Palm Springs many many years ago. It was a good interview and I almost turned it off before it started because I always associate him with Tara Reid. Hope this blind is him.

  32. Carson Daly definitely! My dentist looks just like him :)
