Police in London were called to Jonathan Rhys Meyers' home on Tuesday because the actor and frequent rehab patient took a bottle of pills in an attempt to kill himself. He was taken to the hospital and released yesterday. First of all, I thought he was back in rehab so to know he was home when he was still not feeling 100% disturbs me. The guy needs time to get better and if his agent or manager is the one pushing him to work instead of getting better, then they suck. Second, why did they let him out of the hospital less than 24 hours after a suicide attempt? Don't they want to watch him for a few days and make sure he is not a danger to himself or to others? You just let the guy out? If he kills himself in the next few days, how are the doctors going to feel who said he was fine?
My thoughts are with him and hope he takes the time and gets the help he needs to get back to acting. The guy is brilliant.
He IS a brilliant actor. This is a terribly sad situation, and I wish him the best.
ReplyDeleteI feel really sad for him. He seems to have a lot of demons and my guess is 90% of his douchy behavior is related to his alcoholism.
ReplyDeleteSome of the most brilliant of actors have the worst demons. RDJ is like that (for me at least)

ReplyDeleteAhhh this one makes me sad. He always seems so terribly unhappy. He actually reminds me a lot of my dad - a depressive medicating with alcohol. Anti-depressants might do wonders for him.
ReplyDeleteHe's got such charisma and talent, and his addiction has never been Lohan-esque (narcissistic and irresponsible), it just always reeked of self-destruction. Be well, Jonathan!
@ Big Mama: I agree with the RDJ analogy. Both he and JRM are handsome, talented, and batting deep troubles. Fortunately, RDJ seems to have control over his issues. Hopefully, JRM can do the same. He's not in the Lohan category of blaming others for his mess. He just seems to be of serious help. I hope he gets it.
ReplyDeletethat's terribly sad. suicide is a horrible situation for everyone involved and if anything happens to him, his doctors/agents have blood on their hands!
ReplyDeletehere's hoping he can recover and live a healthy life. i know depression is a life-long ordeal for most, and he's never struck me as a happy person. but if he can learn some coping skills and build a good support system, the odds are with him. i wish him luck!
Loved him in that soccer movie Bend it like Beckham. Bless his heart. Hope he gets the help he needs.
ReplyDeleteSad...he really is very talented.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the analogy of Robert Downey Jr. and JRM. They are both incredible actors who have their demons. No doubt there is some sort of mental illness that could use some pharmacologic help, not alcohol. I hope that he gets what he needs and his managers and family/friends support that.
ReplyDeletethis story has since been updated, Enty. his close friends have come out and said it was a relapse not a suicide attempt....hence why he was let out.
ReplyDeletei believe them,if they were going to lie at all they would haven't admitted to even that.
He is one beautiful looking man.
ReplyDeleteI loved him in The Tudors, I don't care how everyone complained he didn't look a thing like the real Henry 8, he owned that role!
I feel so sad he has so many demons and hope he gets well.
He does remind me of RDJ as well. I pray he gets the help he so desperately needs before it is too late.
ReplyDeleteEven if it wasn't an intentional suicide attempt it's clear that he has something broken inside him. I really hope he fixes it. I wish him well.
ReplyDeletelove the post and the comments!
ReplyDeleteNothing original to add
Best wishes for JRM
this breaks my heart. i love this guy.
ReplyDeleteas an aside...so nice to see that the comments are not full of hate for him as they have been in the past. i think he deserves compassion and i'm glad he's at least getting it here.
Sadly sometimes what makes a person brilliant in some respects is what makes them unbearable as well. Genius always comes at a price and JRM's simply a brilliant actor, don't forget this guy played Elvis in biopic and survived!
ReplyDeleteRecovery is an agonising thing, and the longer your addictions control your life the harder recovery seems...he needs to change his whole life, not just his drinking sadly there is no other way to get better, I hope that doesn't mean not acting, but if that's what it takes for him to get better I'll be okay with it.
My prayers are with him.
ReplyDeleteOh No! I love this guy. I want to find a way to send him msgs he will actually see saying Nooooo! don't do it!!!!!!!! He is just too brilliant and too sexy to die :(
ReplyDeleteI hope he continues to get the help he needs. Very sad indeed.
ReplyDeleteHe has the most gorgeous smile! Excellent actor-hope he can get out of the hellhole of addiction.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, wasn't Henry VIII considered quite handsome as a young man?
