Anna Wintour And Vogue Go Insane - Name Olsen Twins As Best Dressed

Maybe Victoria Beckham should start spending more of her advertising dollars to Vogue if she wants to achieve her life long dream of being on a Vogue cover. Until this month neither of the Olsen twins had been on a Vogue cover, but apparently the ad buy from their clothing line must have finally been high enough where they not only got a cover, but also were awarded the title of best dressed. I'm sure the person who decides on the award is a very nice person and I think it is admirable that Vogue finds jobs for the visually impaired and encourage other companies to do the same. I just think that when it comes to determining a visual award that the judge should be someone who does not have Full House photos on their bedroom walls still and the entire collection of those Olsen twin detective videos.

  4. This "honor" was definitely bought and paid for by advertising dollars!!! These bag ladies aren't even the best-dressed bag ladies out there, in spite of the insane amount of money they probably spend on their over-sized rags. I've often wondered what the point of only weighing 85 pounds (well okay the "big" one might weigh 87 pounds) is when you wear clothes that would easily fit a digustingly fat size 8 like myself.

  6. Best dressed in the homeless-looking category? Best dressed in the "I'm playing dress-up with mommy's old stuff and I'm 3 years old" category?

  7. best dressed if you are into homeless chic

  9. O.K here it comes, I love the Elizabeth and James line, the clothes fit my lifestyle are comfortable a bit pricey for me so I usually get them on sale...

  10. I see it as anorexia-gone-wild chic, just like Rachel Zoe: Tiny, withering-away people swamped by humongous clothing who resemble little girls playing dress-up with over-done EVERYthing--clunky shoes, too-long sleeves and hems, and crazily large and overdone accessories.

The whole look is a joke, actually. It's a nose-thumb to the whole female population.

(for the record, I love Rachel's show and think she styles others impeccably)

  11. Agree with, well, everyone. Esp RJ; "These bag ladies aren't even the best-dressed bag ladies out there". Nope, they surely aren't.

The thing that kills me (other than ad $$ buying this "honor) is that you know Wintour and the Olsen twins think their style IS the best, and that they're forward thinking frontrunners and we are but mere rubes, incapable of seeing their true genius.

    Just, ugh. Really.

  12. I'm sure one key reason was because they are stick thin. We know Anna loves that. Ugh.

  13. Aw, geez. This was about best-dressed SIBLINGS, not best-dressed PERIOD. They were picked from a set of ten. And the reasoning doesn't sound specious to me:

"They get it right a lot of the time, and then sometimes, they don't get it right," according to Mark Holgate, Vogue fashion news director and editor of the best-dressed issue. "That's actually great because it shows that it's their hands reaching into their wardrobes. They don't have someone telling them, 'This is cool, this is hot, this is what you should be wearing.' It comes from within them. It's instinctual."

  14. Anna Wintour needs to retire. The Olsens twins dress like homeless people 99% of the time.

  15. so I will be in the minority here, but they don't dress like bag ladies all the time and have started a lot of trends. They wear whatever and don't follow what everyone else does. They have a laid back, boho way of putting things together that are to me, anyway, casually cool.

  16. I'm with angie and MISCH. Everyone sees them as bag ladies because those are the ones that make the blogs. Because of course, they look like shit. But I can't even count how many times I've seen Ashley looking stunning. I get it's not for everybody, fashion is often misunderstood and they certainly aren't for the mainstream, but there are some killer pieces in their lines. I can't afford The Row but I own quite a few Elizabeth and James pieces that I don't think are too abscure or bag-lady styles. So I really can't disagree with this one even though I know I'm in the minority.

  17. @Jolene Jolene (I like typing that :)) -
Good points, but that is the truth about what they are most often photographed in (a sassier version of a muumuu (sp?)).

I doubt I'd ever buy their clothes, but back in the day when they had a makeup line, their lip liner was my favorite EVER.

  18. um, actually they are really well dressed in recent years and their clothing line, the row, is gorgeous.
