Pointer Sister Arrested For Drugs

Bonnie Pointer was arrested this morning and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. She made bail about three hours after being arrested. Pointer is 61 years old. See, here is the thing. When you are a young singer or musician, the drug thing seems glamorous and cool, but if you are still having to use at 61, you have some serious issues. The Pointer sisters were huge. When MTV first started, The Pointer Sisters were on there as much as Duran Duran. Then they kind of faded away and make money singing at casinos. Apparently enough to feed their drug habits.

  1. Bonnie Pointer was not in the group during its heyday between 1978 and 1985. That was Anita, June and Ruth. Bonnie was with the group in the mid-70s when they were a quartet. She has had drug issues for years.

  3. Ah I loved the Pointer Sisters back in the day. Hearing that their heydey ended in 1985 makes me feel old.

  4. I'd think that bail would be denied. She is a serious risk to "jump"

  5. How about we just blame Bonnie, who just happens to be a Pointer sister. She is 61 years old, and crack use knows no age group. Her issue is she's addicted to CRACK. How old is Whitney Houston?
    Crack is almost 40.

  6. Why do people get arrested for possessing controlled substances when it's the uncontrolled substances we should probably be worried about?

  7. The tone of this post is rather preachy. I would never begrudge Willie Nelson his weed.

  9. Bonnie left the Pointers for a solo career, signed with Motown. She had some success, particularly during a stretch that was not as kind to her siblings. Her version of "Heaven Must Have Sent You" remains a staple on dance stations.

Another of the sisters (June) suffered from drug problems for most of her adult life as well. I remember Bonnie on some show after June died a couple of years ago hollering about how the remaining sisters were not respecting June's wishes for her burial and what not.

  10. I disagree about drug use by young people being glamorous and praiseworthy. It's pathetic to see mouth-breathing slack-shouldered young people with vacant eyes and dead souls spooning drugs into their bodies to try to alleviate their worthlessness and redundancy. Daily drug use by anyone looks really bad -- but that's just my opinion. I'm sure for people who are getting high every day, it looks fabulous.

  11. @Seachica: LMAO!

Did she have a joint or did she have crack or something real bad? If it's just a joint, meh, who cares?

  12. Crack is almost 40? Can't be.

I free-based one time--and one time only--in about 1984 or 85 and that was when my BF's bro had to take a whole gram of coke and cook it down himself, Pryor-style.

I recall crack came about later than that...

(I have never smoked crack but I saw it one time...it looked like a broken piece of macadamia nut).

  13. I thought they were all on drugs. They've had drug problems since the 1970s.
