Your Turn

Have you ever made up a significant other right before the holidays just to avoid (a) questions from your family about why you are still single or (b) to give you an excuse to not have to go see your family? Someone I know bought a fake engagement ring to wear when she went home just to avoid questions, but to me it would seem to bring on a lot more, like how did you meet, when are you getting married, etc.

  1. That's what I would think too. MORE questions.
And, nope, not me, but looking forward to reading others' posts about this!

  2. Heck no. When I pull a bandage off I do it in one pull.
In fact, I "made" a boyfriend in high school break up with me the day before my birthday because I didn't want to have any drama on my actualy birthday.

(and I told him to cram my present with walnuts;))

  3. I never really had a problem with being single, and my family isn't really the kind of family that would bug me about that. So, no. And now I'm married anyway *L*

  4. No. I always end relationships right before the holidays.

My last relationship was 4 years ago! Lol

  5. Nope - I come from a huge family, so when we're all together there are plenty of people actually in relationships or having babies or just had a baby or getting married that I never really have to deal with talking about why I am still single.

Never. I have felt I would have had to do more explaining afterwards.

  7. I never tell my family anything. I just brought home my hubby one day and told them to deal with it.

  8. No, never thought to do that but perhaps I will now :)

  9. No, but I guess I am doing the opposite....my husband and I are having major issues, and I plan to go through the holidays acting like everything is fine to avoid any of the questions.

  10. I wish I could make up that I'm pregnant, my family keeps asking when I'm going to have kids and its driving me nuts! I'm not even married yet! My niece recently had a baby (we are close in age) and now everyone assumes I'm falling behind or something.

  11. That is INSANE. Who honestly would do that? Is being single really that bad? God.

I'm really glad I don't have to lie to my family.

  12. Nope. Too much work.

  13. Nope. I find the truth and telling people unsatisfied with it where to get off works pretty well. Also avoiding BS family events can work wonders, too! ; )

  14. What?! Since when is being single something to be ashamed of? I was a 'discerning taste' kinda gal for 20 years, had a lot of fun, enjoyed my own company (& still do) & no one 'completes me'.

Lawd Enty, what the hell is up wichyou lately? Some weird posts Big Guy!

  16. I'm actually single this season. I'm thinking about asking out Jennifer Love Hewitt for the holidays, but If I was expecting a New Year's Eve kiss from her I'll be gravely disappointed because I'm sure she'll be with some other dude by then.

  18. I haven't, myself, but I have noticed a phenomenon I call "The Canadian Boyfriend," usually involving an attractive student/co-worker who is perpetually unavailable due to her relationship with an ever-present but never-seen boyfriend/fiancee attending school or working in Canada. In Canada it could be "The American Boyfriend," of course...anyone else encountered (or utilized) this tactic?
