You have to watch out for that vodka in Finland. It will knock you on your butt. I remember one time a flight I was on got diverted to Finland. The plane needed to be fixed and everyone was allowed off the plane but we had to stay in this sterile area and not try and enter the country or whatever. The only thing to do in the area were two gift shops, one of which was a 365 day year Christmas gift shop/canned reindeer outlet which held my attention long enough to stock up on candy, and the other was a newsstand that primarily sold items in Finnish. Go figure. The only other thing was a bar. Not some glammy airport bar, but something much more rustic looking and I think they sold vodka and wine. That was it. They had a lot of different kinds of vodka. Primarily Finnish and some Russian and for the four hours I was in Finland I gave it my best shot to sample every vodka. I still think one was moonshine. Have you seen that show about moonshine runners? Why would they show their face? Crazy.
Oh, anyway, Adam Lambert's boyfriend, but not true love, is a guy who was on Finland's version of Big Brother. They were at a bar, got crazy drunk and started fighting each other. The police came and arrested and charged them both with assault, but after they got to the station realized neither of them were actually hurt. I imagine a lot of swinging fists. The Finnish guy made it kind of seem like a publicity stunt after they were released.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was 15, I went to St Petersburg (then Leningrad) and we went to some club very close to the Finish border (give or take some water between us). Granted, I was young, but the Finish vodka we drank kicked our asses. This story about Adam & his boyfriend is kind of funny in that context. Such debauchery ensued that I can totally see this happening, then having no recollection of it.
It probably was moonshine you drank, Enty. The Scandinavian countries rely on moonshine a lot since alcohol is so expensive. My friends and I got super drunk on moonshine in Norway about 25 years ago.

ReplyDeleteThe publicity line Enty wrote is really misleading... He tweeted something like "publicity is hard and so is love but love lasts forever" I assume English is a second language for him and I take it to me publicity as in being in the public eye. These fights happen all the time at bars all around the world, it doesn't make it ok, but it doesn't make the news. It's only because of who they are that it garnered so much attention, but it's also probably why they e let go with no charges. Double edged sword boys!!

ReplyDeleteMy issue is the way enty seems to be accusing them of just doing it for publicity. His last line in the article basically accuses "the Finnish guy" (which btw, really!?) made it seem like a publicity stunt. I assumed he was basing that off of the tweet By Sauli after they were released which I quoted to the best of my memory in my last post.
But as I said, def not trying to downplay the violence.
okay, sorry to jump to conclusions! I took issue with the way you said these fights happen everyday in bars, as if it's no big deal. Domestic violence is always a big deal, and I tend to think if this was a man and a woman it would have blow up to be a bigger deal, like Chris Brown and Rihanna. Adam looks a lot bigger than his boyfriend.

Agree that this would be treated as a much bigger deal by the press if it were a male/female relationship. The same as how when a female teacher has sex with a teenage male student it's treated with a wink, wink, nudge, nudge, and everyone makes jokes about it, but when it's a male teacher and a female student, the teacher is refered to as a predator (and rightly so, but the female teachers are predators, too).
ReplyDeletethis wasn't domestic violence, it was two sloppy drunks push/falling over each other and arguing. I don't think they had enough motor control to actually fight, based on what I've read. They were taken outside where they continued to drunk argue with each other and fall on the other people in their group. Please don't belittle the real instances of domestic violence by including this stupid bar behavior in that group.
ReplyDeleteAdam appears to have a bit of a drinking problem, this isn't the first time he's done something stupid after a few drinks, like dancing on a table at Lady gaga's birthday party and breaking a few things when he fell off it. He needs to stop being an idiot, he's been out there for two years now, time to grow up and take responsibility for your behavior and the fact that some people still consider him a role model.
In no way was this a publicity stunt. I'm Finnish and actually saw Adam last night in a bar. Didn't witness the fight, but his boyfriend Sauli has kept really low profile on their relationship. He is also known as Mr. nice guy. When he was in Big Brother, he never got a single vote from any of his housemates. The fight happened at 4 am, so everybody was superdrunk. The police didn't even question them until like 11am cause they were too shitfaced. Adam has even commented he had a blackout from all the vodka.

ReplyDeleteIt's an unhealthy relationship, that much is clear. Healthy relationships don't end in blackout and violence. People were injured, there's no question this turned violent. It's sad but I'm not casting blame. Just think there's a huge double standard here.
@HighHeels - I'm sure Sauli was very nice on BigBrother but that was 4 years ago! Adam was a real sweetheart on Idol, too - what they did on reality TV has nothing to do with what happened last night. It's totally irrelevant. By now there are hundreds of reports that all say the same thing - Adam and Sauli were arguing and they extricated themselves from the group to argue in private. If they were not too drunk to do that, then how can being superdrunk excuse any physical confrontation that came afterwards?

My point was that in no way I ever approve of violence, but the fact that Enty was insinuating this was a publicity stunt. I'm sure they were arguing for real after drinking themselves stupid. So I agree with the earlier comment that Sauli was a bit off with his choice of words in his Tweet.
