Brangelina Make Their Own Turkey

For the first time as a couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made their own turkey on Thanksgiving. At least that is what I got from her appearance on Anderson Cooper. She said that she has tried to make a turkey a few times in her life but this year was the first time she and Brad had tried to make one. Do you think they ignored it the past few years or had caterers? I would not put it past them to just ignore it, but now the kids are older so they might have been wondering how come they never had turkey on Thanksgiving.

"Brad and I decided we were actually going to make the turkey and we were very successful and very proud of ourselves. We did it! This was just the two of us with the kids watching trying to pretend we knew exactly what we were doing,"

She also says that every night the entire family sits down for dinner, but that she does not cook that. Angelina will be on Monday's episode of Anderson.

  1. I'm not a fan of this broom stick, but making a turkey is no easy task.

  2. Not always a fan of Angelina, but when it comes to her kids, I believe her to be closer to them than some other stars "raising" their kids. She is very aware of each of their personality and quirks. Yeah I believe they cooked it together for their kids.

However, someone else did the stuffing yams:)

  3. Making a turkey is much easier than you think TG - take it out of the package, remove the insides, sprinkle some salt and pepper, put in roasting pan and cook for xx amount of time. That's pretty much it. People think for some reason that because it cooks a long time it's some terribly complicated thing to do, it's really not.
Also, I can just see her kids asking "mommy, why do you have 3 single beans and a lettuce leaf on your plate?"

I can see a scenario where she and Brad did cook Thanksgiving dinner to give their kids a sense of what many perceive as normal. The older kids go to school and likely heard classmates talking about their holiday plans. So the Jolie-Pitt kids go home and ask why they don't do something like that. Sounds logical to me.

  5. Of course they did. They can do everything, except figure out Amazon. I don't see why they wouldn't celebrate it though with someone else doing the cooking.

  6. I have tried 3 times and it always sucks. I can't figure out how to keep it moist. I use ten tons of butter...shit, one year I bought fancy black truffle butter and it was even drier than the time before!

  7. @Tempestuous - Go on the Foodnetwork.com, they have free videos on how to make easy turkey! Am hooked on those shows now, sadly.

  8. @TG
Use a roasting bag, it works every time! That's what my mom always and still uses. You can find them in any grocery store, they're very cheap. Keeps them moist as hell!

She looks so bad in that pic, wow! Her face is so gaunt.

  9. Forego trying to have it "picture perfect" and just cook it breast-side down. You might want to cook it a tad longer than suggested, but it will be very juicy, I guarantee!

  10. Thank god I'm vegetarian. The wine-and-herb marinated tofu steaks I had were amazing and easy.

  11. As if she has to cook, Please this is just silly.

But cooking a turkey is easy, just pull up Food network and they will walk you through it...

  12. @Tempestuous if you brine it beforehand, it'll be perfect. I put mine in an oven bag with salt, pepper, lots water, fresh rosemary, thyme, sage, and a little cumin. let it sit in the bag in the fridge over night, then drain, rinse, pat dry and place in roasting pan (dont forget tuck wings under). add more herbs inside cavity and a little on top of bird with some canola oil. Put in oven at 500 degrees for 30 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 and cook till bird reaches 160 degrees. I ALWAYS end up with a picture perfect crispy skin and the meat is super flavorful and juicy.

  13. This has become the Foodnetwork! So many new ideas for cooking turkey :)

  14. We don't brine because then you can't stuff the turkey itself. We ALWAYS use a cooking bag, which helps retain the juiciness. And we use parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, just like the Simon and Garfunkel song!

I love her smile here. She's also admitted she can't cook.

  15. @tempgrape - must add my two cents, lol. I create a "boat" out of aluminum foil. Cook at 425, 20 minutes per pound. Open top of foil a few times to baste, close up. You end up with very juicy meat.

  16. Ugh. Seriously? All that money and she never made a turkey? These are rich people problems. How brave of her to turn on that oven and wash a turkey. How do you go from posing with people starving to death to an interview where you brag that you've never cooked a turkey in your life and you're almost 40? I hope they were able to survive it okay, poor things.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Elizabeth - it's not a rich thing, it's a starvation thing in Angie's case;)

Never cleaned a bird in my life, and believe me, it is so not a rich thing!!! It's an eeeeeeek thing. How can you spread them and stuff them and not apologize to the bird for making her feel like she's at the gynecologist's?

  18. Thanksgiving dinner is not that hard. The cleanup is the bitch. We follow the instructions on the package and us a digital thermometer...the kind with a probe in the bird and the unit outside the oven. Dryness usually comes from overcooking.

@Rita: I now have a picture of Tammy Turkey in the stirrups at the OB/GYN. Thanks for the visual! LMAO!

  20. If you buy a Kosher turkey it's already brined.....Trader Joes has excellent ones...
Living in the City with a small fridge theres no room to brine and its healthier to make the dressing outside the turkey.
Also if you start the turkey breast down dryness will not be an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  21. hahaha @Rita! Yes, I did feel kinda...rude...on Thanksgiving as I pried the poor thing's legs apart...

What I've found is that the secret to making a perfect Thanksgiving turkey is: make sure your Mother is there. :-)

I believe she attempted to make a turkey. The real question is, did she eat it? I think not. Still can't stand this bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Rita: I had a friend who told me he thought his wife was cheating on him; he worked second shift at the time, went home on his lunch break and looked through the window to see his brother and his wife banging away on the kitchen table. He said, "With her legs up in the air, she looked like a Thanksgiving turkey!" I don't think it ruined the holiday for him, but the story crosses my mind annually before the carving begins.

  24. I remember reading a few years back that the Ange did not celebrate Thanksgiving..."Angelina Jolie thinks that Thanksgiving is a holiday about murder and she refuses to celebrate it. A friend of hers says, 'To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn't her style.' "

  25. Have you seen the Marie Claire photo's of Angelina Jolie's style evolution....you must, she has always been skinney with big boobs (implants I think) but the changes in her face are unmistakable . She has has very good work done.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Please, she didn't eat any turkey, let alone cook one.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ooh ....I might get that Marie Clare to see the pics of Angelina. Yeah, good for them for making a turkey but did she actually EAT? Prolly not.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Euh Robert, what kind of cravings are you talking about?

My apologies to figgy and Misch for the eeek visual. I also feel ashamed for the bird when being "manhandled" on the Iron Chef.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Rita: CARVING, not craving! It's just that when the turkey's out of the oven on the platter, that poor guy's story flashes through my mind...am I becoming George Costanza?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow, interesting. So nobody else cooks the thing on about 150 for 24 hours or more? Always works for me - and makes the house smell wonderful too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The best way to cook turkey is in parts! We only like the turkey breast so that's all we buy. We cooked ours in a slow cooker with turkey stock and vegies. It was so good!

  32. I'm so sick of celebrity's trying to make it seem like they live normal lives. Give it up! You are not like me and that's okay, that's why we watch you, because you don't have to worry about how to pay your mortgage and send your kids to college. You've got loads of money and you shouldn't be ashamed of it. Now stop acting like you're just like a normal family. Getting off my soapbox now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sorry, but when I read this about them "making a turkey", just the language made me laugh. You can make dinner or make a cake, but you don't "make a turkey"... only turkeys (or possibly farmers) make turkeys. Brangelina was preparing and cooking a turkey.

By the way, in trying to decide what to say about the farmers, turkey basters came to mind... hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rita, don't worry about it...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jennifer, this is Angelina Jolie. Of course, SHE can make a turkey. She can also turn water into heroin.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Vicki: You always come up with the cleverest lines..

    ReplyDelete
  37. thank you, jennifer. i don't know why but that drives me crazy. you can 'make' a recipe. you CANNOT 'make' a turkey. only 2 turkeys can do that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My mother in law swears by the cook it overnight at 250 method. I can't leave my turkey to chance like that, lol. I salt it in a turkey bag (no water, just kosher salt and herbs inside and out) for 24 hours and then rinse/dry and slather under the skin and on top with an orange/herb butter with chopped bacon. Baste and wait, Baste and wait... I have cooked breast side down for the first 45mins and it works well too.

  39. As Henriette said, cooking just the turkey breast is super easy. I do it all the time. It's not as impressive looking as a whole turkey is, though, so they're better for a big Thanksgiving. Yummiest recipe I've ever made:

    INGREDIENTS:
    1 whole turkey (10 to 12 pounds)
    6 to 8 garlic cloves
    2 large lemons, halved
    2 teaspoons dried rosemary, crushed
    1 teaspoon rubbed sage
    1/2 stick melted butter

    DIRECTIONS:
Cut six to eight small slits in turkey skin insert garlic
between the skin and meat. Squeeze two lemon halves inside
the turkey and leave them inside. Brush melted butter over
outside turkey and inside slits. Squeeze remaining lemon
over outside of turkey. Sprinkle with rosemary and sage.
Place on a rack in a roasting pan. Bake, uncovered, at 325
degrees for 1 hour. Baste with pan juices. Cover and bake
    for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours longer until a meat thermometer
reads 185 degrees basting every half hour with pan juices.

  41. Temp, sweetie, brine your turkey before hand. I always do this and it comes out moist and delicious! And there is a show called America's Test Kitchen - they have videos on just about everything you can cook.

    ReplyDelete
  42. And my GOD! How emaciated does Angie look! It's like a stick with lipstick!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Shoo. I'll tell you how to make it the fatty fat mcfatterson way... mix herbs and spices (not salt) together with three sticks of softened butter, pry the skin apart from the meat(delicately), shove butter mixture in between skin and meat, put a stick of butter with an onion and an apple inside the turkey, cook breast side down for a few hours, then flip over for the last hour for the crispy skin. Buttery moist goodness. Stuffing is gross, but that onion is a.m.a.z.i.n.g. with mashed potatoes.
Angelina has probably not had a chance to cook a turkey before. Who cares? If I had a chef, my ass would be parked in front of the tv watching the parades or The Christmas Story, explaining the allure of a Red Ryder BB gun to my kids.

  44. Too bad it's not Thanksgiving soon, some great tips here and by next year I'll forget.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sorry George Costanza/Robert - Let's not try to guess were my head was when I read CRAVE. Carving makes so much more sense.

And sorry to @Layna Day for the weird imaging! But I can't help it, I just cringe when a poor bird is inelegantly and without preamble getting stuffed.

  46. That's what the British said about Paris Hilton.

  47. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! @Vicki!!!! It took me reading your comment THREE times just to make sure that my brain is processing what my eyes are reading.

Really good one VickMeister, I deeply bow to your amazing quickies! Most satisfying ever.

  48. A couple of years ago, it was reported that Angelina wouldn't have any part of Thanksigiving. Is this a misquote? ...Angelina Jolie thinks that Thanksgiving is a holiday about murder and she refuses to celebrate it. A friend of hers says, "To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn't her style."

  49. @ Vicki
    Best. Line. Ever.
    You just won the Internet!
Also, I'm glad I'm not the only vegetarian who's grossed out by this thread. Give me a tofurkey with all the trimmings any day. There is no power or reward on this earth that could possess me to shove my hand up a bird's ass and rip out their guts. Do Not Want!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I stuff a kosher turkey with fresh garlic and orange segments, baste it in Soy Vey Teryaki sauce, and put it in a roasting bag to cook. Yum.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If you think about it, Tofurkey is faux turkey--either way works.

  52. Whether or not they do T-Day regularly, with 6 kids and the staff they need to manage them you sort of have to go with the flow. They're both clearly campaigning now that it's award season, and their PR crew are positioning the family as all-American, with loving grandparents and Norman Rockwell and all that. Boring.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm impressed she did a talk show!

I bet Angie did say that about Thanksgiving, but her kids probably protested and that's why you are hearing about her "making" a turkey.

I LOVE to cook, but if i had her money, I'd probably have a chef too.
