Bethenny Frankel Gets A Talk Show Courtesy Of Ellen

I know Ellen wants to be the next Oprah so wants to set up people with their own talk shows and then cash in on the profits, but starting with Bethenny Frankel seems the wrong move. I don't want to listen to Bethenny Frankel for an hour everyday and I don't think anyone else does either. Let me give you my theory on daytime talk shows. You have to be one of two things, funny or sensitive to be successful. If you are not either of those things it will not work. Ellen is funny and Oprah is sensitive. Rosie is funny and Maury is sensitive. Even in the shock talk show format you have Jerry Springer who is pretty funny and you had Sally Jesse Raphael who was sensitive. Bethenny is neither funny nor sensitive. In fact, she may be the least sensitive person to ever be given her own talk show. No one can relate to her and her own life is really messed up so why is she being given her own talk show so she can help people with their issues when she cannot fix her own? The show will run this summer for six weeks but most likely only in Los Angeles and New York.

She looks like she's wearing a Skeletor mask.

  2. I think her style of humor is similar to Chelsea Handler, so I think she will be somewhat successful.

  3. LOTS of people will watch this. I'm not one of them, but she has a huge fan base.

And yea, her skin is stretched way too thin over that skull of hers. She needs to fatten up just a tad.

  4. I watch her Bravo show, but I'm not big on talk shows.

Hey, you can't blame a girl for trying.

  5. Her face looks totally jacked but yeah, at least it's mostly natural. I gotta give Bethany credit that she hasn't gotten any crazy face work done (Botox doesn't count).

This is one of the things that is wrong with America.

  7. If they ever make a Batman movie where the Joker's sister comes to Gotham to seek vengeance, she's the perfect person to play the sister.

  8. There is no way that face is natural. No way at all.

I wouldn't watch the show, but I'm not really her target audience. I still can't figure out why Dr. Phil has such an audience, so clearly I don't get the needs of the daytime talk show viewer.

  9. Actually, I think the show will do well. And I do find her funny. She's had some pretty witty one-liners.

Also, Enty ... Maury is sensitive? MAURY?

  10. I really like her but yowza, that picture is horrible!

  11. YEESH! Waaayyyy too scary a photo to pop up in front of my poor lil' eyes...

  12. She reminds me of Troy McClure on The Simpsons.

"Why did they make that muppet out of leather?"

  13. I agree with enty that Maury is sensitive. He seems to care about his guests, and tries to set them up with counseling. He may not cry with them like Oprah, but that doesn't mean that he isn't sensitive.

    @Vicki, hahahahahahahaha

There's no way I could look at that face, it's terrifying. Like if I stare too long, it's going to eat my soul.

  15. Vicki - I don't disagree with that!

  16. She looks like a troll doll - just picture her hair straight up.

  17. That photo of her is dreadful! I agree, Maury is sensitive...has anyone seen the new talk show w/the british guy on it? He's pretty tough.

  18. Hahaha @ Mikey - I totally see it...and now I can't UNsee it! *L*

  19. I like her sense of humor. But then I have a sarcastic streak in me and I get it. She also makes fun of herself.

  20. I think she's very funny!

  21. She is funny! Very quick wit.

  22. I'm only commenting to say my absolute new favourite talk show is the Jeremy Kyle Show. The format is like Maury, but he is openly disgusted by his guests. I watched him two days in a row while I was sick with food poisoning a couple of months ago and I. Love.Him.

  23. I've never seen her show, but that picture made me cringe.

  24. @Shay - I see you beat me to it! That's Jeremy Kyle :)

  25. Didn't they try to shop her show around but she was so unlikeable that no one wanted to give her one? I thought I had read that in Page Six or something.

  26. @mikey - I'm with @Maja - the troll doll is burned into my eyeballs!

She's only funny when she's making fun of someone. Is that her show - an hour of ragging on people? Please only air it in LA and NYC.

  27. Well, hell, I could do that. It'd be funnier, too.

  28. maybe ellen sees potential and not just a quick buck? at least that's what i really want to think b/c i really like ellen. i have nothing to base my bethany views on b/c i've never watched her show. i do hope tho, that ellen throws in a decent m/u artist and brow groomer.

  29. Like califblondy, I also watch her show but I'm not a fan of talk shows, however if that obnoxious, chattering Rachael Ray can have a talk show, well then anyone can.

  30. God this woman is unattractive.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't know if she's funny or not, because I've never watched her in anything. She kind of scares me.

Chelsea Handler does not actually HAVE a sense of humor, so I'm not sure I'd compare someone else's to hers.

  32. This woman is U-G-L-Y.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's like her skin is trying to escape her face but she keeps pulling it back.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That photo! Yikes.... Not good

  35. I saw her on Ellen a few times over the holiday season and it seemed to me that her rapport with Ellen was what was entertaining, but I'm not a talk show person either.

Chelsea Handler going brunette had the same effect on her sense of humour as it did her appearance. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse....

  36. Ellen has had Bethenny on her show quite a bit. Not necessarily always to promote something, either. So, I guess I'm not surprised. She usually does a segment where she'll make food or cocktails, so I wonder if her talk show will be more like a Rachael Ray type talk show vs. a sit down & chat type show??

I think is/was hilarious on RHONYC & BEA, but I don't know about an hour long show.

I didn't click on this post earlier, but this comment made me laugh my ASS off just now.

  38. I have watched her on Housewives and her own show and she is one of the most self-involved people ever.

She's awful on the appearances on Ellen--she doesn't listen, she talks over people....I can't picture her on any kind of talk or interview show because the only person she is interested in is herself.

I don't hate her, but she's based her show on depicting this side of herself. She'd have to really be a great actress or change her personality totally.

I'm kind of amazed Ellen thinks this is a good idea. When Bethenney is on I always think Ellen looks annoyed by the end of the segment.

  39. Sensitve and Funny should be a slogan for something. KY jelly?

  40. ok that picture scared me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think that photo makes her look as if she's been photoboothed!

I would never watch. She's way too self involved.

Oh, and this photo makes it way obvious that she's had cheek implants.

  42. She looks older than 41.

  43. What planet is this female from, originally?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Maury does not give a fuck and Sally Jessy was one of the biggest exploitation scumbags I've ever seen.

    I've noticed that as well.
