BuzzFoto Blind Item
This actress has done some big films (mostly comedies) and a lot of voice-over work for animated films. She was recently asked to do a film where she would have to play the role of an ornery mother-in-law. She was so offended by the offer, especially since her character would be older than she is in real life, that she temporarily fired her agent for even suggesting it to her.
I'm thinking Cameron Diaz.

ReplyDeleteNo one wants to be seen as older as they are. It's one thing if it's a Benjamin Button type of role. This clearly isn't.
ReplyDeleteIf she's in the financial position to say no, I don't have a problem with her passing on it. Sounds like a bad role/movie, anyway.
Definitely someone who doesn't want to admit that once you pass the ingenue stage (esp once you start voice overs), if you want to work, you take the character-driven MIL roles.

Why not take what you can, do a good job, and show you can actually "work your craft" or whatever bullshit these pampered, self-centered a-holes think it is they do for a living.
Sorry--not the thing I want to hear--some diva turns down a role...and money by being too high and mighty.
Give it to someone else who appreciates the offer, is what I say.
If I were that agent, I'd be less willing to even mention a role next time.
I realize that women and their age is an issue in Hollywood, but work is work. At least she got an offer. Act the shit out of the part, get PAID, and maybe get some accolades. What really sucks is when the phone stops ringing.

No, a woman has the right to choose what jobs she does or does not want to work. What makes her a diva is firing her agent for doing HER job ie finding movie roles for her client.
DeleteNice for her that she has the luxury of turning down work if she finds the particulars offensive, not so nice that she terminates someone else's employment because she doesn't want to accept that there aren't enough roles for 30/40 something women who want to be the ingenue instead of the mom.
Doubt it's Cameron Diaz, she was willing to go fug for Being John Malkovich.
this is what hollywood does to women, it ages them and discards them. it doesn't do that to men.

its outrageous and awful, but that is hollywood.
I was thinking Angelina might fit, she's done a lot of voice overs for those Kung Fu Panda movies but I think it's Cameron. She's looking a lot older than she really is these days.

ReplyDeleteOh big deal. Anne Bancroft played someone who supposedly could have been old enough to be Dustin Hoffman's mother in The Graduate, and she was like 39 I believe, maybe 5-6 years older than him.
ReplyDeleteThe Graduate has the ages all messed up. Hoffman was playing 21, when he was actually 30. Bancroft was play 42, when she was really 36. The daughter was 19, but the actress was 26-27 IRL.

ReplyDeleteThere was like a seven year age difference in real life between Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate. He played younger and she played older, it's called acting!
ReplyDeleteScarlett Johansson fired her agent (her mom) last year. This caused major financial problems for her so maybe Scarlett took her back.

Although work is work, once a woman plays that type of "older" character role, it will be really hard for her to step back into romantic comedy leads that play younger. That's just the way they treat women in Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteThinking it's Cameron. It says a lot of voice over work and she was Fiona in all of the Shreks. And most of her work is comedies besides Gangs of New York and In Her Shoes. Cameron looked a little haggard in The Green Hornet.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked Yankee Doodle Dandy where Rosemary Decamp (then 32) played Jimmy Cagney's (then 42) mother. I must have missed that SexEd class where they explained women could give birth ten years before they themselves were born.

ReplyDeleteThis does sound like a description of Cam, if so, I'm surprised, I thought she was a little more realistic and down to earth than that. The actress in question should take the role, be thankful she's getting on screen offers and give a great performance.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the firing was temporary. It wasn't her agent's fault she was offered the role, and I would think her agent would be obligaated to inform her of any offers and let her make the decision whether or not to take it.

ReplyDeleteI don't think she's a diva for not wanting the role. And I agree, that unless you are Meryl Streep, taking a role that makes people think of you as older can be harmful to your career.

IMO her hissy fit only exacerbates and continues the "women are worthless unless young and beautiful" BS.

Cameron fits, but then I think it would have said A list actress. I don't see what the big deal is. Playing someone that isn't "you" shows your acting abilities. Didn't Sally Fields play Tom Hanks mother in Forrest Gump?
ReplyDeleteI think being dumped by Justin then Alex was a big shock to Camerons' ego and she isn't recovering well, thus the botox & fillers that give her droopy cheeks. Which do not make her appear younger.
