Katy Perry Cancels People's Choice Awards - They Are Not Happy

Yesterday Katy Perry announced she was pulling out of her advertised and promoted and very first public appearance since the announcement of her divorce. Even after the announcement last week she confirmed with producers she would be attending and they were so grateful at what was going to be a much needed publicity boost that they dis-invited Russell Brand. All week the show has been advertising Katy's appearance and now she has pulled out and they have no Russell either. It is not like this awards show gets the kind of participation it got back 20 years ago. They are not happy with Katy Perry. Aren't these awards announced to the stars before so they know they win? Kind of like the whole MTV thing? I wonder if they can go ahead and pull whatever awards she was going to get now and give them to someone else. The last thing the producers want all night is for "Katy Perry could not be here tonight to attend, but her 4th grade math teacher is here to accept on her behalf."

  1. Very unprofessional and juvenile on her part.

  2. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she's just too torn up and would lose it if she went live, who knows? She usually loves publicity and adoration, so it could be something legit.

  5. I'm not going to judge her here, she might be feeling depressed over the divorce and embarrassed about her parents talking foolishness, I would want to avoid people too if I were her.

  6. I didn't know this 'award' show still existed.

  7. It was unprofessional true, but I honestly think that she might be truly upset about this divorce. I can see being worried about not being able to hold it together and knowing that if you can't it is going to be broadcast all over the place.

  8. Extremely unprofessional of Katy Perry. I had lost some respect for her marrying Russell...now I have no respect for the spoiled bratt. You're in the spotlight and wanted to be a star. Now you're a star and make a lot of money. A professional doesn't let his/her personal life get in the way of a professional commitment. Grow up Katy.

  9. I don't know. She only announced her divorce a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure that none of us here are as famous as Katy, and we have no idea what hassles she'd have to put up with from the press on the red carpet. Imagine how annoying it would be to have a bunch of microphones in your face asking you about heartbreak. I wouldn't go, either.

She's probably saving her first red carpet appearance for the Grammy's, since it's the only music awards ceremony that supposedly matters. I mean, The People's Choice Awards? *Pffft.* Come on!

  10. I think this divorce is going to get ugly.

  11. So she wants to be hated as well, ok...good job then, girl!

  12. She must have some better reason than "I'm getting divorced"... do we know her reasons? It doesn't sit well with me. Does she want us all to think she's completely torn up over this? They were only married for a year! I dunno...

  13. I'm on Team "Pfftt" on this one and didn't know this "awards" show even still existed.

There are far too many awards out there, IMO. Very watered-down. Even the Oscars are losing some shine for me.

That said, we WILL be DVRing the GGs so we can see Ricky crack on everybody!

It's the People's Choice Awards. Who cares? *Kanye shrugs*

  15. I understand that she might be upset about the divorce, but it's the People's Choice Awards. No one would say a nasty word about her or anyone on that show. If it was the Golden Globes, then I'd understand her dropping out because Ricky would probably crack a few jokes at her expense.

People go through divorce all the time & still have to go to work. This is her job, and she gets paid a lot of money to do it. While I understand she might be having a hard time, I still think it's unprofessional on her part.

  16. If she had been blindsided by the divorce then I would understand totally, but I think this split was a long time coming and both of them knew it.

  17. Wow I am no Katy fan, but goodness no compassion whatsoever from any of you folks today. So she probably doesn't want to get asked tons of questions about her love life. I am pretty sure that any of you really wouldn't appreciate complete strangers asking about what went wrong with your love life. Geez give the girl a break.

  18. If she didn't want to talk about the divorce, then every time someone asked her about it, she should have replied: "Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies."

  19. I think when you've trotted out your relationship in interviews, magazines etc it's trick to play the privacy game when it all goes wrong.

  20. I'm sure her parents wouldn't mind taking her place.

I'm giving her a pass on this. I'm sure she's upset with everything that's been going on. Give the sistah a break, people !

  22. Whoops, meant to say "tricky" in my last post

  23. It was unprofessional to do at the last minute like this.

BUT. It's Katy Perry. Was she really the biggest star they were pulling out???

  24. I don't like katy Perry at all, but I kind of understand her in this case. You know everyone is going to be watching, asking questions, wondering how she's doing, etc. Plus the fact that only a few days before the divorce papers were filed, she was pretending to be in a happy marriage. She probably not ready to face it all yet, and I kind of don't blame her.

  25. Oh well, maybe the "people" will not buy her songs or albums or her perfume or any other stuff she sells. It is one night for pete's sake...put on your big girl panties and be professional about it, your fans will appreciate it.

  26. What Carrie L. said. This is the freaking People's Choice Awards. It is the ideal place for her to return to the public eye. They make Kneepads look like hard-hitting journalism. They would happily ignore her divorce all together, and pretend everything was roses and sunshine.

  27. this is the same thing kim k did after she filed for divorce. she said she was fine, would honor her obligations, flew to Australia, and then decided she couldn't do the appearance and flew home.

suspect they might be "fine" at the time. but then start hearing things from different people and are not "fine" anymore.

  28. I agree with BigMama. I can't even begin to imagine the circus that is her life. Throw a divorce into the mix and it has to be hard on her. I am not her biggest fan, but I also think that she is entitled to a little downtime after news broke about her failed marriage. If she was going to pull out, she should have done so immediately, because doing otherwise is unprofessional.

  29. I agree, shes prob upset about the divorce and her parents. My divorce was pretty rough too, big custody battle, my family didn't know how bad it really was and didn't support me. Oh wait, I STILL WENT TO WORK. Thats what this is, work. She can afford to miss it, she has plenty of other income but its still work and it was crappy to back out at the last minute.

  30. She shouldn't have confirmed her attendance in light of the divorce. Maybe she thought no one would notice her divorce since Russell filed during the holidays. It looks very unprofessional on her part since many preparations were probably made to accommodate her and get her performance ready.

She isn't much of an actress so I believe she'd break down in public if asked about the divorce. And while divorce is common and the statistical norm nowadays, her religious upbringing might make it difficult for her to accept or admit publicly that her marriage didn't work out.

She didn't handle this matter well, but I'll give her a pass on this based on the above unless something else comes to light.
