I have lurked around this blog for almost a year and I finally started commenting recently. I hope that snarky comments towards each other, and everyone can go back to agreeing or disagreeing with each other politely.
I miss some of the old familiar commenters. I can't help but think they aren't coming around for a reason.... :(

@Eleanor - Just take it for what it is. I have been a reader since 2006 but only have been commenting for the past six months or so. Some of the old regular commentors are gone due to being tired of the snark, etc. Others I think just faze out over time.
Difference of opinions is def what makes the world go round. I love most the people here but when someone gets abusive towards other commentors or the blog in general by way of misuse or overuse its time for them to go. And usually they do eventually. Just know that you are here and you enjoy yourself. And thats all that matters.

It's not the gossip or the comments on the gossip that I was referring to. It was the interaction between posters. Sidenote, I will say that snarks towards each other seems to be only occasional, and not the norm. :)
Name-calling is never okay, regardless of being here on the internet. And Layna, I liked the terminology, but would never call someone that based upon a post.

I've never called anyone a moron, an idiot or told anyone they were stupid, but if someone writes something that is ignorant by definition (such as applying blanket generalizations to large groups of people), I don't think there's anything wrong with calling them out on it. Generalizations like those can really offend people and I don't appreciate being told that I have no sense of humor for not finding that kind of thing funny.
Cathy, the thread was about Mickey Rourke and calling actresses "cunts". People got into a huge debate over the word he used. The person chewed me out for saying they were.
Are they all? No, and I said that. I also said Hollywood makes people that way. People fawning all over them, having access to what they do, etc., gives them inflated egos and a whopping sense of entitlement. Does that make some actresses cunts? Hell yes it does, if you take the word to mean a total asshole.
That wasn't a douchey or ignorant comment, just an observation on how Hollywood is. Why I got called all that when I was commenting on people who don't live ordinary lives and look down on us regular folk...who knows?
I think it is great to have unique opinions and disagree because that seems to help the guessing of these blind vices, but there is never a reason for anyone to be nasty about it. Frankly, I think it is a shame that being gay in a monogamous relationship is something that is even considered a "vice" and that people have to make up fake relationships to hide it, but it is what it is.
@Cathy- yes, if someone says something that is ignorant by definition it is perfectly ok to call them out on it. That isn't exactly going to endear you to a person, or make them any more likely to listen to your point of view, but that is another topic altogether. I don't take offense to people telling people that they are being ignorant if that is the case. I do think that there are a lot of knee-jerk reactions on this particular board when people don't agree with a post. One of the first is to insult a person by calling them ignorant or to snarkily infer that the person is ignorant or uneducated.
As this is a gossip site, I take it all with a grain of salt. I don't like it, but if it's the price of admission...

Welcome new posters. Don't be scared off. Most of us have gotten attacked and got over it. Many of the posters are wonderful people and their different views make the site interesting. The attackers, not so much.
Personally, I enjoy learning about different opinions on ALL sites I read. If commenters get boring and all they have to say is "oh, she's fat", "oh, she's too thin", "I hate him", "That dress is ugly" - then I'll be gone. That's vacuous and my time is worth more than listening to that crap. What' wrong with a respectful, free exchange of information and opinion? That said, no one needs should tell someone else to STFU - that's just rude.
I don't comment a lot but I read the comments. Some people do go to far with the snarkiness but most people seem to be normal out for a laugh folks. (Hope that's not bab thing.)
