Today's Blind Items
In honor of Australia Day, I thought I would make this blind item Australian. This actress is formerly A list, but now a good solid B. Back in the day when she got her role that made her internationally famous she got the role by sleeping with not just the casting director, but also this rounadabout Australian who was a friend of the director and was already bored with his wife. A further clue is this actress got naked in the movie for which she was cast.

Mel isn't Australian. He's American. He moved to Austrailia when he was still young, but he's still an American and an American citizen.

ReplyDeleteNicole, like Mel, was born in the US (Honolulu, specifically) but moved to Australia early. I think she has dual citizenship. I agree, this sounds like her.

ReplyDeleteI don't get the use of "roundabout." It makes absolutely no sense. Walkabout and roundabout (i.e. traffic circle) are not even remotely related.
Anyway, I'm going a different route.
Bryan Brown -- He had worked with Phillip Noyce, Dead Calm's director, in the past.
Rachel Ward -- She married Bryan Brown 5 or 6 years before Dead Calm was made.
Nicole does have dual citizenship. Her parents are both Australian citizens. Neither of Mel's parents were.

ReplyDeleteRoundabout can also mean 'in a roundabout way'... going at something indirectly. I don't get the use of that word in the blind, either.

Naomi Watt's international breakthrough was in Mulholland Drive. I don't associate David Lynch with well-known Australian actors.

And who knew about Nicole? I have always thought she was stunningly gorgeous....and....actually...I think she still is!
Dead Calm was hardly an international hit. Also, the BI only specifies that the friend of the director is an Aussie, although I do think the BI strongly hints that the actress is an Aussie as well.
ReplyDeleteNaomie Watts rocketed to A-list with King Kong but she wasn't naked in that. Kidman's stripped for plenty of roles but in the part that made her A-list, Days of Thunder, she kept her kit on.
There just haven't been that many Aussie actresses who are/were A-list by Enty's standards.
"Roundabout Aussie" sounds like someone known for being Australian who was originally born in another country (e.g., Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman).
ReplyDeleteStretching the bounds of the clues, you can probably fit the BI to Kidman somehow. Billy Bathgate was the first role in which she was famous for her nude scenes, but by then she was famous enough not to need to screw her way into roles.

ReplyDeleteDead Calm was a big deal. It absolutely made Kidman famous, especially among the Hollywood power players. I have no idea if she was nude in that movie. I also think the "roundabout Australian" is Mel Gibson. He's not a true Australian in the sense that he wasn't born there, but everyone associates him with Australia.

I thought of Nicole, and her cute ass in Dead Calm too. I remember seeing that with my gf at the time. She said " I am not a lesbian, but I could change for Nicole Kidman" after seeing that movie.

I just looked it up and yup yup yup there is indeeeeed-ee-doooo a nude scene starring ms. kidman in Dead Calm. Case closed I'd say.

I never thought she had any talent at all.I don't think there is a single feature on her face that she was born with.She's almost all plastic,silicone and Botox.The only thing she ever had going for her was the fact that she was eager to do nude scenes in any movie even if it had nothing to do with the plot

A movie director I know hates Kidman and often tells stories of when he worked in Australia and she was sleeping around to get parts (which I've said on here before), so this story wouldn't surprise me as being her. Apparently she would give out BJ's to the crew... anyone.. just to get ahead (pun sort of intended).

At first I thought Toni Colette based on the letter downgrade(she did have a moment where she was getting lots of visibility after Muriel's Wedding) and was disappointed bc she is such a great actress, she shouldn't have to do this, she should just act)... and I would have definitely thought Nicole would be an A permanently btwn Oscar and high-profile relationships.... but I have to agree with the majority this sounds like Kidman and the roundabout Aussie is Mr. Murdoch.
