The Zooey Has Filed For Divorce

After announcing they had split on Halloween, Zooey Deschanel filed for divorce from her husband of just two years, Ben Gibbard. The Zooey has never really said what caused the split, but lets say that Ben is a musician and he is on the road a lot. Lets also say that he was forgiven more than once. Zooey waited until the holidays were over so as to not cause unnecessary drama, but two days after Christmas filed for divorce.

  1. They were definitely the subjects of a blind item(s) I bet.

  2. And just think... for forever his personal Twitter listed "devoted husband" (or something very similar) as part of his description of himself. Douche bag.

  4. Oooh, I thought you were gonna tell us she cheated!

Sad for them, but Enty, here's your chance!

  5. I love her. That is all.

  6. I'm glad he's the cheater. I think on Celebitchy, they list her assets and expenditures that somehow were made public in the divorce, and she seems to be good with money.

Which somehow makes me like her more, that she's responsible.

  7. I was surprised her lawyers had it made public she is worth 3 million. Her lifestyle is pretty low key financially. I was impressed that is noted she gives $1,500 a month to charity. Might be just for a tax break but at least she does it.

  8. @timebob: And has ZERO credit card debt--incredible.

  9. Dude had gross hair, anyway.

  10. So, that means that most of our BI guesses for Goop/Chris Martin weren't right...

  11. I don't know why her lawyer attached those details. TMZ got their hands on it, and to tell you the truth, and very impressed with her lifestyle.

I like the Zoey, unfortunately, I'm not liking her show "New Girl". Always thought the Deschanels girls had class, and are really beautiful.

  12. I guess the act of sensitive, soulful musician is just an act for Ben! I love Death Cab, but this is coloring my perception of him :(

  13. I have almost the same opinion of this marriage and divorce as I do the Perry/Brand situation. In each of these marriages both spouses have booming careers that they know very well will keep them apart for weeks and weeks at a time. In each marriage the opportunity for infidelity is very high. And in each marriage, the female was the more successful of the pair, which sadly, seems to be harder on a marriage than when the man is more successful. I feel bad for both of these divorces since I think real love was at the heart of the marriages. I just think they shouldn't have gotten married if everyone involved was going to put their careers ahead of their marriages. A young marriage is hard to navigate under the best of circumstances. It is impossible to do long distance.

  14. You know, I like his music (kind of), but I don't find him AT ALL attractive. When they were still in the Seattle area, I would go see them from time to time, and I thought he was just a large craniumed douche hat. Seriously, the guy has a super large head!

Anyhoo, I heart the Zooey, and he is a big poo for cheating. I also never understood his relationship with my beloved Jenny Lewis...what do they see in him? yuck!

  15. ^Opportunity of infidelity is very high in any and every Marriage RJ.

In the world we live in, it is not only the stars nowadays who get proposed easily. Everybody gets hit on, and it is up to the spouse to draw the line. Sex has become an easy trade in the past decade, and it is a good thing. Because sex is not bad, or against a God of different names, but this is where your moral value, and the worth you attach to a commitment are put to the test.

    IMO.

  17. i am always so torn on zooey. she's a lovely girl and honestly talented...it's that trying-too-hard to be hipster vibe coupled w/ that dumb show and i'm all, why, zooey, whyyyyyyyy! BUT, i love me a girl that's conservative and responsible w/ her $. her stock just went up in my book. so go her, and may she find a guy that deserves her. boo hiss on the cheating scumbag ex.

  19. Count me in as a big Zooey fan. Plus I really like her new show.
It's terrible when a marriage ends, and infidelity as the reason is so painful.
    I hope she finds happiness.

It's weird how her and Katy resemble so much too!

  21. @Rita - try giving New Girl another look. If you watch it with the expectation that it's slapstick/physical comedy, it's really funny. I've laughed so hard that tears have come out of my eyes. The only other current comedy that does that for me is Modern Family. Yes, I put New Girl in that high esteem. At first I wanted something more cerebral from her - but the show is great for what it is.

  22. @Rita, I wasn't trying to excuse the cheating. Just pointing out that I don't think either of these couples realized how hands-on a marriage is. Like you said: the worth you put on the commitment is put to the test. I think like so many other young people in the heat of that early-stage love and passion and infatuation, they rushed into marriage too soon. What the old saying, "Marry in haste, repent at leisure"?

  23. I <3 Ben Gibbard...was super disappointed to hear that they married (when it happenned). Dont get me wrong, I'm sure she is lovely, and I do watch the show, just hate that she is so full of hipster try. And her singing voice...

  24. I love Zooey, but that show is god awful. How she got nominated for that garbage and not 500 Days is beyond me. New Girl in the same pile as Happy Endings; lame, trying too hard, hipster sitcom.

  25. Oh I LOVE Happy Endings!! Jane and her husband (Brad, I think?) are my faves.

  27. @nolachickee - I've tried, but the guys, especially the shirtless one, really gets on my nerves! Maybe the last episode has gotten better?

As for Happy Endings, I always feel uncomfortable with that title: I wonder if it's about a massage parlor, and just don't tune in:)

  28. BAHAHAHA Rita! Happy Ending...you have such a dirty mind, not wonder I adore you!

  29. Yes Rita, the shirtless guy is disgusting - that's part of what makes the show funny. He's so gross you can't help but laugh!

  30. @Chrissy, right back at ya cool chica!

@Nola will give this thing a fourth try. Did a new ep role this week?

  31. Rita, you could wait until Lizzy Caplan starts her guest run. At least that way you'd know there'd be something worth watching for. (She played Janis Ian in 'Mean Girls,' among other things.)

  32. @Nola- I think he's kinda cute, not disgusting at all. meh...to each their own! that being said, I REALLY like Happy Endings...especially Damon Wayans Jr ("brad"). He definitly looks more like Marlon than Damon Sr, good for him:)
