BONY 2012

Last week on Twitter I reported that Jason Russell, a co-founder of Invisible Children was spending all of the organization's money on mistresses he was sleeping with. This had been told to me by one of the women he was sleeping with. So, yesterday when so many of you began sending me the links of him masturbating in public while also vandalizing cars and being under the influence it was not a big shocker. What I was more shocked about was the fact that he was only detained and not arrested. Huh? They took him to a medical facility. Great. I am very sympathetic to those with mental issues, however, doesn't this seem to be more of an under the influence issue? Well, whatever he was saying is obviously a get out of jail free card. This group has gone from not being known that well to having people know them all over the world in a matter of weeks. With that comes a lot of scrutiny. That can be tough.

  1. It is waaaaay too easy to pull the lunatic act these days. Mentally ill people can do really bizarre things & maybe him having some kind of mental illness contributed (maybe) but it does sound like he was wasted on something. Alcohol, pills, PCP..? Who knows.

  2. PCP is honestly what it sounds like to me, Dixie. I've been around a lot of drugs, done a lot of drugs myself, and I'm having a hard time thinking it would be anything else (unless the guy is just BATSHIT crazy, which I don't think he is).
I also find it pretty ridiculous that they are blaming this on "exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition." Please. Stop insulting our intelligence.

  3. What the?? As a mother of a child with a mental illness I can attest to some bizarre behaviours and the total loss of control brought on from stress and other factors. it is heartbreaking. Having said that, this sounds drug induced.

  4. I do find this group and their message veeerry interesting too,
I found a young american girl on youtube who originally came from Uganda and she and her family go back there all the time, to the town in the "documentry" and she was genuinely puzzled by what the "mission" could possibly hope to achieve as Kony had not been seen in Uganda for something like 10 years, and thankfully the kids are able to sleep at home unless some other marauders pass thru. He hasn't been seen for so long that people think he is dead. Jason Russell and his crew are straight up liars at worst and manipulative cons at best. Does any one here really want to give them money, there are much better charities to give to that are in Uganda and will actually help them with your donations.

  5. P.S> Him claiming mental issues is an insult to people with mental issues the whole world over.

  6. I immediately thought pcp when I heard this story too Dixie

  7. Oh, I also want to throw this out here and see what other people think.
Yesterday I read a random comment on gawker that, at first, seemed like a nutball conspiracy theory but the more I think about it the more I think it could be true.
What is the point of having Kony2012 as the slogan? I'm starting to think it's because it's an election year and what better way to bring Obama down a few notches than confusing people, Kony2012 with a picture of a black guy, Obama2012 with a picture of a black guy.
Maybe I'm just reading too far into it, but with all that's going on in politics right now, I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's true.
    Thoughts?

  8. I know some of you might think it's drugs or whatever but it might not be. He may have schizoaffective disorder which is a mix of Bi-Polar and Schizoaffective. Sometimes when they go into a state they do really, really messed up things, look and act like they are on drugs but they are 100 percent sober. Most schizoaffective people have high intelligence and a sense of trying to fix the world or save the world from something.

I know this to be true becuase someone I love and have loved my whole life was diagnosed with schizoaffective 2 years ago. An example of an epidose is they thought they were related to jesus, perdicted the world was ending, ran away from home for a week, we found them in a hotel room, pupils a large as quaters. We took them to the hospital, they thought they it was a bad PCP trip, drug tests came back clean, then the doctors finally decided they needed help. And that is just one time, this happens about twice a year. Sometimes not too bad other times very scarry. If Jason has schizoaffective then this would make sense. When things are good, they feel that they don't need the medication (which is strong stuff, lithium is one of them)which causes withdrawl and usually an epidose.

If could also explain the ladies on the side, he might thik it's part of his greater good. It's easy for them to create lies, but then they belive them and will do everything in their power to make their lies real. Schizoaffective sucks for everybody involved. I am not a doctor, just someone who loves someone who had to stuggle with it every day and Jason's story really reminded me of a past epidose.

  9. It could be mental illness but I think he is a con who got caught and went on some kind of bender.
Meanwhile, how many kids died this morning? How many women raped?

  10. LSD is a hell of a drug. Or PCP. Either/or.

Also, my fiance suggested that Russell's behavior is consistent with mixing LSD or PCP with ecstasy. Whatever it is, Invisible Children is a fucking scam and I've known it for a while. I was so mad that they were the charity that won the Chase Community Giving contest a few years ago. $1M to pay for this bullshit.

  11. I'M SORRY BUT ISN'T HE GAY!?!?!?

For any of you who watched the video it seems rather obvious, regardless of his marriage and child.

Now I'm reading that he spent that money on having sex with WOMEN??? That is confusing to me.

My friend said it came out that the money was being used to make musical videos (not sex) as in "Bob Fosse jazz hands" musical, not "music video."

    Anyone? Thoughts?

Also, interesting conspiracy above on KONY2012 vs election but I don't really think so.

  12. I have visited San Diego and everyone was so nice to each other it was culture shock since I am from NYC were people aren't so nice to each other.

Maybe it is the perfect weather that makes them that way.

The police were just being nice and gave him a pass. If had done this in any other place or NYC he would of been charged.

  13. His wife is blaming his behavior on "extreme exhaustion and dehydration."

The Ugandans, along with many other news organizations have already denounced this guy after the KONY thing went viral for it's inaccuracy. Then comes the rumors about misuse of the org's funds, mistresses, etc. I'm with Magsey in that he probably is having a breakdown from the backlash.

I'm having a hard time visioning the police stumbling across a man in his underwear masturbating AND vandalizing cars at the same time. :-/

  14. At the very least, he must be ambidextrous to masturbate while vandalizing cars. Mad skills!

  15. so if you look at the financials on their website. All they claim to do is "raise awareness" But in their video they talk about all things they have done is Africa like education and security warning system. Seems a little screwy to me. They also said in a Piers Morgan interview that the charity is about raising awareness and that they don't claim to do anything more than that. Which is true according to their financials but not true according to their videos. I think they took some creative license there.

Jason also gets a $89,000 salary from invisible children. Ben Keesley takes $88,000.

Which if you compared it to the President of the Red Cross who took a $500,000 salary isn't outrageous. Or compared to the nonesense Wyclef Jean did with his charity paying himself and family top dollar for having his own charity concerts.

Like a poster said above there are plenty of better charities to donate too. The problem is once celebrities embrace charity. And they aren't very well read on them.

People tend to throw money at those same charities leaving the ones that do actually good out in the cold.

I will not be donating to a charity who's sole purpose is to go to college campuses and pick up hot chicks.

  16. After everything I have read lately, my mind went straight to him being brought down by the powers that be and made to go crazy like Brit Brit because he was messing with the slave trade. I shouldn't have read all that stuff.

  17. Even Uganda is saying this video is misleading. They kicked Kony out of Uganda in 2005. Maybe their intent was good, but it smells like a con. This isn't a small charity either they took in 13 million in donations and revenue.

I wonder if Ryan, Warren or Taylor will take up the Gov'ts offer and go to Uganda. Me thinks not.

  18. Not to say I know what is going on with him, but to say mental illness is possible, and possibly exacerbated by dehydration and malnutrition.

A friend in college who struggled with mental health and who was actively anorexic left her apartment and was found hours later in traffic yelling bible verses at cars, and when she was picked up, gave an incorrect name, apparently believing it to be hers. The mental instability and lack of food and sleep pushed her over the edge, without any use of chemicals. Her personality was very religious so she was found yelling bible verses.

This guy's personality is slutty so he was found nearly naked and messing with himself. It could happen.

  19. How can he be dehydrated when he was seen at a bar getting drunk. And he looks pretty well fed to me.

Oh and the 'ol exhaustion excuse. Tired from what? Sex?

  20. Wouldn't medics do a drug/alcohol test?

My husband, who has ptsd and has suffered a couple of breaks, thinks it sounds more like drugs.

I think it might be a psycotic break due to scrutiny and being scared of what's to come.

    Thanks, Enty.

  21. I call bullshit on this guy being straight. Have you guys seen that dancing video he did? I call bullshit unless there is video of him banging a chick. No trick photography either.

this video. this guy bangs chicks? no way.

  23. I never watched the video because I smelled bullshit as soon as it started blowing up on my newsfeed. But he was being interviewed on some show that was on while I was cooking dinner and every now and then I would pay attention while he was trying to defend the charity and they were showing clips. I, too, would have sworn he was gay.
When all of this madness went down and I heard he was married I thought maybe the pressure of being in the closet plus the scrutiny over this shady charity finally pushed him over the edge.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mistresses? He's straight? He sent my gaydar off when he was doing interviews.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I too thought he was gay when I first saw him speaking on CNN. Then I figured he must be a Christian. When I was young, we used to play a game called Gay or Christian. Essentially, when you see a guy with a bad handlebars mustache and an impossibly cute sweater at the mall with Dockers and boat shoes, you all try to figure out if he's gay or Christian. Simple game, but hours of enjoyment!

  26. "Which if you compared it to the President of the Red Cross who took a $500,000 salary isn't outrageous."

There's a huge freaking difference between making a video and running an enormous world-wide organization. I mean, the amount of organizational ability it takes for them to respond to natural disasters within days is mind-boggling, not to mention their day-to-day activities. I don't think a half-million salary is that out of line. Compared to the millions that CEOs make, it doesn't seem bad at all. It's on par with what a public University President makes, and again, the Red Cross is much bigger and more complicated.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh, and as was pointed out on Enty's facebook page, if he'd been black, he'd be enjoying a good cavity search right about now.

  28. No straight man made that video.
