Jimmy Kimmel Interviews Will Ferrell In Spanish

This is the first of a three part interview Jimmy Kimmel did with Will Ferrell entirely in Spanish. It is worth watching.

  1. I don't like Will Ferrell, but his interview on The Daily Show was hilarious.

  2. As a Latina, I don't know if I should be offended or humored by his obvious murdering of the Spanish language.

  5. As an American, I actually don't know whether I should get offended or be humored when people from other countries who live in the US refuse to speak or learn English language.

  6. @Crila
Perhaps you should be compassionate and/or try living in a non-English speaking country for a year or two. Then come back and let me know how often you were comfortable speaking your new language on a daily basis.

I did it for work. It's not always refusal, but a matter of comfort.

  7. As a Canadian, I'm glad that people who immigrate here are encouraged to maintain their cultures while simultaneously embracing what Canada has to offer. Three cheers for the mosaic model!

  8. Ouch crila, where did that comment come from? I agree with flip and RQ. As someone who speaks Spanish but not natively, it can be really intimidating trying to speak when in a Spanish-speaking country. My husband and his family are super-supportive, but I give anyone living in a country that speaks something other than their native language a ton of credit. It is difficult, and if you find someone who speaks your native language, I totally understand reverting to that language.

  14. Just as an added consideration in response to Crila's comment, I think it's really relevant to keep in mind that the immigrant experience is even more different from just visiting a foreign nation. Chances are, you don't have the money or time to take classes or anything and when your primary objective is to make a better life for your family, I can see how learning a new language on top of that is challenging. And from what I understand, the system in the US is immersion schooling - basically go to school in a language you don't speak (English) and sink or swim. From a developmental perspective, it would be a lot more effective to have schools that are tailored to teaching ESL (and that are available to everyone who needs it).

And @RQ, as a fellow Canadian, hip hip hooray for the mosaic!
