Where Is Sky Metalwala?

Last week, the parents of Sky Metalwala's divorce was finalized. You might be saying to yourself, who is Sky? Sky disappeared sometime prior to November of last year. The mother of Sky, Julia Biryukova told police that last November she ran out of gas in Washington State. When she went to get gas, she left the car doors unlocked and took the older child with her and Sky disappeared and no one has seen her since. The mom says Sky was kidnapped. Uh huh. Police searched everywhere but no sign of the boy has ever been found. Solomon Metalwala has never been a suspect in the disappearance and in the divorce was given custody of the couple's five year old daughter and Julia is not even allowed visitation. I can't believe she has never been charged. Her story is so ridiculous and is just another example of parents getting away with murder. (Thanks Jamie)

  1. Such a sad story, it was all over the news here for a while but lately nothing has really been reported in the media.

  2. I saw this, can someone explain to me why the father reportedly hadn't seen the son in over a year? I know he's not a person of interest but I just was wondering if he was so loving and involved where was he for that year and why was he out of his children's lives? I looked every where and couldn't find that info

  4. I really think she had her son sent back to the Ukraine with her family. She didn't show up at the custody hearings regarding her children and her daughter gained seven pounds in 6 weeks when she was put into foster care. All of this points to Julia having a mental illness and the children are truly better off with the care they are receiving now that they are both out of her home.

  5. I remember hearing about this, I wonder what the story is that we're not hearing. I hope Sky was sent off somewhere...because the alternative is grim.

  6. I think she sold the kid.

  7. I live in WA State. We are all in agreement that she had a hand in Sky's dissapearance. We also belive that she got him out of the country and he is back in the Ukraine. Neither her or her family will talk with the police. She is hiding behind her lawyer.

  8. I don't know that she killed him, at least I hope not. Some think she may have sent him to live with relatives in Russia to keep him away from the dad.

  9. Such a sad situation. I've been following this story since it first happened and what's been tough to see is how it's slowly faded into the background, but a little boy is still missing. Thank you Enty for the post.

KamQ - I agree...I think she sent him off to family as a way to get back at the father.

What I think is most concerning is that the mother has refused to speak to the police. If your child is missing and you're innocent - you help!

  10. I, too, live in WA state.

The part about the car running out of gas was proven to be a lie. The police drove the car and it worked fine and was not out of gas.

I don't know why the Bellevue police don't just get on a plane and fly to the Ukraine. I'll bet they find Sky in about 30 minutes.

  11. Sending your kid to the Ukraine/USSR is nearly as bad as killing them.

    1. You do realize that the ussr no longer exists, and hasn't since 1991, right?

Living in the Ukraine or Russia is nowhere near equivalent to death. Both countries have come a long way from the communist soviet era. I suspect you are thinking of life under the Soviets. These days, while not the same standard of living as in the US, Both countries are relatively stable and more democratic.

  12. Another Washington state person here. I work in Bellevue where this took place.

The Bellevue police can't just fly to the Ukraine to investigate. They have no authority there, so they would need the Ukrainian police to cooperate. Diplomatically, things in the Ukraine and between the US and Ukraine are somewhat unstable right now.

I also think she sent Sky to the Ukraine with her dad (who was visiting the prior month). She had lost custody of Sky's older sister, so she probably took steps to ensure that her family kept one of the children. Do airlines keep records of babies who fly on passenger's laps?

Thank you, Enty, for informing us about this case. I've been wondering what was happening with it. It was all over Seattle news for awhile, but has disappeared as quickly as the Mariners' hopes for the playoffs.

  13. Kinda sounds like the Vanishing, the old Keifer Sutherland movie, that I believe was also filmed in WA...

  15. Looks like we need to have a Seattle area CDAN party here.

I'm glad we're all in agreement that the kind is probably in the Ukraine with family. I wonder if the older kid will ever say anything.

  16. The Mom hasn't been charged for the same reason Kyron Horman's Mom (in Portland) hasn't been charged. No body, no evidence. You don't arrest and charge someone if you can't prosecute. (I love CDAN but from what he posted here I think no way Enty is an attorney!)

  17. @plainjane:

The father was under an order of protection initiated by the mother. She called cps on him and made a bunch of allegations, as part of a pre-divorce build up. This is why he wasn't considered a suspect. He wasn't around. The allegations were denied after an investigation was completed. Sky came up missing as the investigation was coming to a close. The wife seems a bit shady, considering she allegedly broke down next to a cafe filled with customers. Who leaves their child, I can't think of one mother who would.

  19. Kitsap County here!
I know that the KIRO radio folk have kept talking about Sky and then the stuff started up with the Powell children.
@ Lila-That is another case of a Mom hiding behind their lawyer. Sorry, step mom. Both of these women are disgusting people.
@Seachia-He could be living in the Versailles palace with a swimming pool full of ice cream and a room made out of Legos and it still would not matter where he was. He was kidnapped, by a family member which was facilitated by his mother. He needs to be brought home and her ass needs to be in jail.

  22. In EL's defense .. there is a world of difference between entertainment law and criminal law. Law school doesn't teach you every area of practice .. I shudder to think of how insane it would be if it did! So .. it is not surprising at all he knows next to nothing about criminal law.

My bone is with the first sentence! Holy Cow! It is just a mess.

  23. Bothell ova heah, people! (Sh*t, that doesn't quite roll off of the tongue like Seattle.)

The fact that she wouldn't even talk to police after reporting him missing speaks volumes about her as a mother. If one of my children were missing the police would have to forcibly remove me from the station, because I sure as hell wouldn't leave them alone otherwise.

  25. Ok, did some internet checking, and Sky is a boy. I , for some reason, prob the name, thought he was a girl. From what I read, horribly contenious divorce, and she prob did send boy back to Ukraine out of spite. Anyway, I hope thats where he is, safe and happy.
