ReplyDeleteSeconding the fact that voice-over work is acting! Just take a look and listen to animated films before and after they decided that they needed to cast the biggest names possible instead of relying on veteran voice actors. Thank Robin Williams in Aladdin for this. One major success with RW and suddenly Disney's going back to that well over and over. Some live action actors do well with voice overs, as well, but some most definitely do not.

ReplyDeleteAnd I REALLY agree about old voice talent actors too. They had to do many different voices themselves, pre-computers, pre-super-sweetening. I HATE the stunt casting of animated stuff now too, and i curse Aladdin all the time as well, lol.
But would anybody really think that, say, Billy West and Seth MacFarlane aren't 'acting'? Because we can't see them?
Did Sacha give those hot bodyguards with the lemon sucking faces their pink slips now that his movie is out? Too bad. I quite enjoyed seeing them these past few months.

Thirding the fact that doing voiceovers *is* acting... I deal with both VOs and on-screen a lot. We usually do more takes with VOs because it's harder to get it right.
