Rihanna gave a great performance on Saturday Night Live, but it almost never happened. The one thing you do not do on the show besides drop an f bomb is to miss the final dress rehearsal. You just don't do it. The final dress rehearsal is taped and if something goes wrong, it is what is sent out. If you have ever tried to get tickets for SNL, what you should do is get tickets for the dress rehearsal instead because you get more sketches because the final cuts are made based on what you in the crowd think and how you react.
Rihanna said she was sick which is why she skipped it. She was probably on the phone with Chris Brown since it was his birthday.
Methinks we won't ever see her on SNL again...Lorne Michaels has a loooooooong shit list, and people have landed on it for behavior far less significant than skipping the dress rehearsal, which you JUST DON'T DO.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I sometimes suspect that her former management arrangement with Jay-Z ended because he didn't think she had potential to have longterm success. Her voice is amazing (it's so good when compressed and mixed up with buzzy sawtooth-wave synthesizer tracks) but there seems to be something wrong with her personality.

All the rumors about Rhianna and Chris Brown hooking up ended after their song came out. Now Chris Brown is always photoed with his girlfriend. Rhianna is being very smart, not doing anything Christina Aguilera or Madge didn't do.

Fame and fortune can do crazy things to a person's sense of self and entitlement. I can't say that if I became rich and famous in my late teens/early twenties that I would be on my best behavior all the time myself.
I think she has lots of learning and growing up to do. Hopefully, it will happen sooner rather than later because she is not very likable these days.

I went to NY with a friend once and we wanted on SNL badly...no way to get tickets that day of course. We went to NBC anyway and were chatting up a couple in line for what turned out to be the final dress rehearsal (until that day I never knew such a thing existed.) The wife was originally from the same city as us and gave us two tickets to get in. Enty is right, getting in to the dress rehearsal is the best- we saw three extra skits that they didn't do live. I remember David Duchovny was hosting and Puff Daddy and Jimmy Page were musical guests. Best. time. ever.
ReplyDeleteher first song was....interesting. I was surprised that they let her do all that, but now that I see that they probably didn't see her perform it until the live shows, I understand more. And she did that vag-slap move in both songs! The first song was just more like a porn video, and I couldn't even tell if she was singing or just moaning.

We watched it yesterday and my partner, who is NOT celebrity-savvy and who had never seen Rhianna before, said, "What is it with this Rhianna girl? Did she want to grow up to be a dancer and had to settle with being a stripper?"
