Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore's Marriage

As you know, I love a good conspiracy theory and this one is great. Because Demi Moore announced she was leaving Ashton back in November and ending their marriage, everyone assumed divorce proceedings would commence right after. So far? Nada. That has everyone wondering whether the couple was even legally married in the first place. Maybe they just got married by Bruce Willis because he thought since he played a priest one time he thought he could marry them. Maybe it was some non binding thing they did while watching television or something, but it does make you think that after all of this, maybe the two were just living together. Doesn't excuse the non stop cheating on Ashton's part and Demi definitely thought of herself as Mrs. Kutcher. Still fun though to discuss on a Friday.

  1. Aside from the property aspects of it, whether it was legally binding or not really makes no difference in my mind. The commitment they made is the same and it lasted a lot longer than most "legal marriages" in hollywood. Ashton would have cheated regardless.

  2. Wasn't there a blind about a couple not being married? The popular guess was Demi and Ashton if I recall...

IIRC, they had a Kaballah wedding. I don't know if the officiant was legally allowed to solemnize marriages in California or not. I wouldn't be surprised if this was just one of those things where they wanted to throw themselves a big party and be the centers of attention w/o actually having to get legally married. Didn't Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall do that, in Bali?

  4. Doesn't TMZ have copies of their marriage documentation? It's a bit odd that they don't.

I'm getting freaky pro-life anti-Obama ads on CDAN!

  5. I really don't see how he's attractive. At all. Even if I could get past the greasy hair. And he's so skinny that his clothes wear him. Just get away from him, Demi, if you haven't already done so.

  6. Pro-life anti-Obama... what could be more appropriate?

  7. I'm kind if ready for marriage to be a purely religious ceremony, like baptism and bat mitzvahs. Your kid is born and gets officially registered with the government, and you can also get your him or her baptized, but the government couldn't care less.

The same should be true of marriages. Get married in the eyes of your God if you wish, but for inheritance and benefit rights, you should simply have to register as domestic partners, straight or gay.

  8. I always thought their wedding was a prank (pun intended). I wonder where their legal residence is. Cali? Idaho? I know Cali has community property laws and even if you're not legally married, you have to get a "divorce" to split up the property.

  9. They supposedly didn't bother to get a marriage license without it the ceremony is not legal...

  10. I remember knowing this back when they first got married. It was a kaballah ceremony sans legal docs. I want to know WHY they're on the outs. Could care less if they were or weren't really married.

  11. yeah, i thought the same thing - they just did the wacky kaballah ceremony without the marriage license so it wasn't "legal" in the eyes of the state of California. So... no need for a divorce.

I wonder if that was on purpose or "I'm so in lurve and I just forgot that pesky detail" - that's the real issue. I kinda think it was on purpose, that one or both of them knew it was a thing that was destined for failure or was just a grand PR stunt and just have your pieces discretely on the side, please.

  12. I thought it was Enty that had implied it was a Kaballah ceremony and not legal?

  13. nunaurbiz - Where are you getting your legal advice? In California, you have to be together ten years for the 50/50 split. Why do you think Kobe's wife stuck it out for ten years? And there is no such thing as Common Law Marriage in California, and therefore no "divorce" for unmarried couples.

  14. Didn't Ashton inseminate January Jones?

  15. If they're not married they've gone up a notch. There is no reason to bring the government into your relationship, especially when you are worth millions.

  16. In California, a Kabballah marriage would be legal if the parties filed a marriage certficate.

I'm not sure if those are public documents, but I think with enough grease, a tabloid could easily find out.

  17. And...the blind is solved about the couple who never married.

  18. I don't think they were ever legally married. I actually think better of them for NOT getting legally married!

  19. Wasn't it a Kaballah wedding,so not legally recognised, so therefore no divorce. If Demi remarried legally, wouldn't she lose her $$$ support from Bruce??

  20. @Gabi, good point. In Florida, spousal support generally ends if the spouse receiving payments remarries, unless there was a large difference between their two incomes. I have a co-worker who has done really well over the past five years, easily bringing home over $500k (nauseating to me) but his wife was a SAHM - no income at all. They recently divorced (they took this crazy vacation in the Bahamas on the Hooters Yacht, six months later, she was having an affair with the boat captain) and the court decided that even if she remarries, he's still on the hook for spousal support for the next 12 years (half the time they were married). Child support goes until the kids finish college, regardless of whether mom remarries.

So now she's shacked up with the boat captain, unmarried, laughing all the way to the bank. WTF.

Anyway, doubt Demi would care about losing spousal support, but you never know...

  21. @Cornbread, that's a crazy story. I'd like to think I wouldn't work either if my husband made $500,000. Damn! I'm trying to imagine what those paychecks look like, lol!
