David Bowie & Mick Jagger & Other Gossip From The Past

Back when I was eating bacon out of a Gerber jar, there was always the girlfriend found Mick Jagger and David Bowie in bed story. It literally has been around forever. There are other more salacious parts to the story also, but it's early in the morning so I will spare you them. I don't know if the story was ever published in The Enquirer or some tabloid but it was a story every person in the world had heard by the time they reached a certain age so it's fascinating to me that in the past 24 hours suddenly it has become a stop traffic kind of news story. There is a new book coming out and yesterday I wrote about Mick Jagger and Angelina Jolie which is at least somewhat new and interesting but everyone seems to be focusing on David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Have you really never heard that story before? It can't be the first time it has ever been published because then how did every kid I grew up with also hear the story? There was also another story about Keanu Reeves and David Geffen. Oh, and a Richard Gere story that is not really appropriate. Those were the biggest celebrity stories that circulated on a daily basis. There were offshoots of those three, but they were the big ones. So, it's kind of funny to see one of them be this jaw dropping news.

  1. The Richard Gere and gerbal story I know for a FACT is false. It started when Richard was working on a set with another actor who hated him. He thought Richard was an arrogant, no personality, stuck up prick. He went around telling everyone, he was so stuck up it was like he had a gerbal up his ass. The crew started laughing and that was the ongoing joke during the entire filming. That's how the rumor started.

  2. If Mick Jagger got David Bowie pregnant that child would ooze so much sex and talent.

    Wait, what?

  3. I believe I heard that the Richard Gere story is 100 percent fake.

What is the Keanu Reeves/David Geffen story? First I'm hearing of it!

    1. Oh! This one made it all the way to Brazil, as did the jagger/bowie one!!!

  4. That is quite a leg on Ziggy Stardust.

Of course we've heard those stories before! People are shocked by them now? Must be the youngsters who find these old chestnuts to be newsworthy.

I didn't hear the Keanu story. I did hear the Richard and the gerbil one, and the Rod Stewart stomach pumping one, and of course the Jagger/Bowie one. And I was growing up in the midwest.

  6. Idk Entward..I wouldn't mind hearing some graphic details of their affair!

  7. Oh, and for what it's worth, I think the Gere story is commonly known to be an urban legend. But it was solid gold when I was in middle school!

    ReplyDelete
  8. the rumor was that Keanu Reeves was married with David Geffen in 90's

    ReplyDelete
  9. Good one, Syko - had forgotten about the Rod S. one. Also middle school gold.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'd heard the Mick/David story 40 years ago, LOL. Never got into the details. I wonder about the Keanu/Geffen story. Supposedly Clark Gable did that sort of thing starting out with David Selznik - either that, or Selznik knew about it, so it's nothing all that shocking. John Wayne, too.

Then there was the Jim Nabors/Rock Hudson rumor that circulated when I was a teen. Turns out there was a little truth to that one.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I heard all those stories, but was especially grossed out by the Rod Stewart stomach pumping one that @Syko mentions. WHICH, I'm completely sure is AS utterly false as the Richard Gere story. Thanks for the clarifications on the origins of that one, @crila16, that's really funny.

I thought the song "Angie" was an apology written to David Bowie's then girlfriend/wife(?) who walked in on them.

  12. Heard all but the Keanu one too.

  14. Does anyone know the Keanu story? I haven't heard that one, either.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, supposedly Keanu and David got married in a private ceremony.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So what about that Blind that everyone thought was about Mick and Angelina? Was that one ever revealed and/or is it time to reveal it?

  17. haha, all these old stories from the 1970s and 80s is making me nostalgic for the old days when we had to get our celebrity gossip from tabloids or old-fashioned oral gossiping whilst shuckin' corn and ridin' on the horse-drawn hay baler...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Enty, I and my hubby had same reaction: story is like 50 years old, and the men involved are in their 60's- 70's!!! Not news for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  19. figgy, that makes me think of the mom in So I Married An Axe Murderer who refers to News of the World as "The Paper" hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  20. Not doubt this would have been shocking when it happened, now..not so much. Agreed the media's attention to an old story is their usual attempt to fill space and make $$.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Figgy is right. The story I heard, which goes back to the 70s (I'm pretty sure), was that Angela Bowie walked in them. And the Stones' song Angie, is about her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The story about Gere and the gerbil made one person happy: Neal Tennant from British electro-pop band The Pet Shop Boys, as he stated in an interview. For years, they had the story about the gerbil incident being about them, especially because of the name of the band.
Since Richard Gere was a much bigger star, the rumor left them and they have never been bothered with the story ever since.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @figgy - I'd heard that Keith wrote "Angie" for Anita Pallenburg at the verge of their breakup, but you could be right. Angela Bowie bi-sexual and into threesomes and all that stuff, so I don't know why Mick, or rather, Keith Richards would need to apologize to her for something his mate did.

  24. I heard all of those stories about the rock stars at the bus stop before school. Did anyone else hear that Elton John was the reason Rod Stewart needed his stomach pumped?

The gerbil story around Philly involved a local newscaster though and everyone knew the nurse from the Emergency Room at the suburban hospital where he went. In 3 days everyone knew about it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I mentioned Keanu and Geffen on Janet Charltons gossip site and she jumped my ass about its not true, that they've never met and don't know one another. Geez. I've been hearing it for years tho.

  28. Snopes.com has the stomach pumping story related to a number of other singers (inc. Elton John).

I remember Angela Bowie on the Joan Rivers show stating she walked in on them. That repeat was then played every day for at least five years. Howard Stern was the other guest. He made an appearance in a later episode and made a joke about it "not being the Angela Bowie episode."

And people will always care because they are rock legends and would probably be kind of hot together.

  29. Now that I think of it...There was a BV in the past year or so, about an A+ actress who had a secret baby with an A+...or legendary rocker? It was actually guessed to be Angelina and I think the rockstar was Mick.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Heard all of these...all

    ReplyDelete
  31. The years on the AJ and Mick secret baby don't add up. His pursuit of AJ was during the 1997 Bridges to Babylon tour. Assuming she got knocked up then (and why would she all of a sudden get pregnant by him when she had been sleeping with many people in the years leading up to this? Is Jaggar's sperm impervious to birth control?). Anyway, if she got pregnant in 1997 and gave birth in 1998 the child would be just turning 15 this year. The youngest Jaggar kid was born in 1999. Maybe it's him but it isn't Georgia who is 20 now:

Karis Jagger (born 1970), Elizabeth Jagger (born 1984), James Jagger (born 1985), Georgia May Jagger (born 1992), Gabriel Jagger (born 1997), and Lucas Jagger (born 1999).

  32. What is the new book coming out Enty is referring to?
I have heard the Keanu/Geffen rumours for a long time.
As for Bowie/Jagger, I have heard/suspect there was some sort of groupie 'gangbang'- so Bowie and Jagger were naked in bed together, with others - but never engaged in any activity with each other.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Before I had ever heard of the existence of homosexuality in the late 60's a kid on my block told me the Jim Nabors & Rock Hudson were secretly married. So that's the oldest celebrity urban legend I can remember. The Jaggar/Bowie story I've read in several books about the Stones. I even remembering the two of them joking about the story when they did that video together for Live Aid.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If Keanu& Geffen were married over 20 years ago, Keanu Reeves should be a very wealthy spouse by now. He should do better in a divorce than Harrison Ford's wife did. Good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. When I was in junior high the whole stomach pumping story was being related about Jordan Knight of NKOTB.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What are all of these stories? What about stomach pumping??

    ReplyDelete
  37. Did not hear Keanu/Geffen. Heard all the others, and read them in various books. Bruce Willis/Aron Carter was a new one though.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The only stories I heard or read about was Richard Greer and Mick Jagger and Rob Stewart. The rest are new to me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @MadLyb: Clark Gable supposedly did allow himself to be serviced (and maybe returned the favors) by gay men in Hollywood before he hit it big, but it was George Cukor who knew about it, which is why Gable got him fired from directing Gone With the Wind.
Ironically, Cukor took over for the original director of The Wizard of Oz, worked for two weeks, then left to begin GWTW, leaving the TWOO in the hands of Victor Fleming, who finished that film and took over the direction of GWTW after Cukor was fired.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've heard all of these from the Internet or my dad. I was surprised at the Hudson/Nabors rumor because I had no idea Nabors was ever rumored to be gay. I'm surprised too, that he is still alive, I thought he died 10 years ago. I also heard a rumor about Marilyn Manson removing some of his ribs so he could fellate himself. And that Anthony Perkins was bi and cross dressed, but I guess that most people knew about that?

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Robert, Gable always felt Cukor was "not manly enough" for GWTW (doth he protest too much?) Of course everyone knew Cukor was gay; it was no secret. I don't think that's why Gable had him fired but who knows, maybe what Cukor had on Gable just made him uncomfortable. Then, just as now, bi-sexuality was common in Hollywood (and everywhere, just we hear about it more in Hollywood.)

Geffen/Reeves...an odd rumor. Did they actually know each other? Not certain. Geffen, again, is of course gay and out. Reeves seems very mixed up about his sexuality but I don't think this one happened. Geffen made a lot of enemies and someone might have created this to kill two birds with one stone.

And Richard Gere - definitely an urban legend, that one. Though it was a fun one and certainly got around.

Like you, Enty, I thought EVERYONE knew about Jagger/Bowie! Neither one has denied it, either. That was in the peak of the free love era and I think both felt it upped their rock 'n rolla street cred, so why bother to deny?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Let us not forget the secret children of Janet Jackson and one of the DeBarges AND Madonna and Sean Penn. I remember back in the 80s there was gossip of Rebi raising Janet's kid as her own and one of Vadge's siblings had her kid.

I heard it was David Geffen, River Phoenix, AND Keanu Reeves. Actually, I also heard Keanu was seeing River too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I always knew the Gere story was a complete fake because I heard so many different versions of it, taking place in so many different cities, but every person who told me was no more than 3 degrees removed from the "source" usually someone from a hospital.

Pretty sure that Bowie and Jagger were actually in bed together simply because I've never seen either one of them ever deny it. Would be interesting if the real story is that there were other people there too.

Also heard the Rod Stewart stomach pumping story back in the day, and figured that was false too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. let us bow our heads in remembrance to the first time we heard the story about rod steward and the old emergency room stomach pump procedure...they pulled what out of his stomach? how much?

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Manson story's not true (and what doctor would do that surgery?); I'm not convinced taking ribs out would make any difference in terms of blowing yourself.

I'd heard all the others over the years, although it was usually with Elton John being the one getting his stomach pumped (back when he was only out as bi, not gay). As for Bowie & Mick, yes, Angie did apparently catch them together and alone w/each other.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I remember hearing about Richared Gere and the gerbil, as well as Rod Steward and the stomach pumping incident (Google it) and assuming they were urban legends. But I recall finding the David Geffen / Keanu Reeves story quite believable for some reason *L*.

What about the story involving Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, and a Mars bar?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I heard that Vivien and Olivia got Cukor fired from GWTW, not Gable, because he was so obnoxiously misogynist and crude. Fleming they DID enjoy working with, IIRC.

And as others have mentioned, Angela Bowie is the one who told the story, and I believe it. They never refuted it, and why should she make it up? NOT an urban legend.

I also thought I heard that Richard Gere himself started the gerbil thing. Apparently he was being interviewed when he was fresh on the scene -- AMERICAN GIG0LO-time, perhaps? -- and he either didn't like the interviewer or he was tired or he just felt like being a young cocky (no pun intended) jerk, so he mentioned the, um, gerbil practice himself just to be shocking. Anyone else remember hearing this?

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Hendrix, just the way I heard it. My great Uncle was a very good and well known Photo/Cam man on Movies started in the Silent days and worked until the 1960's. He told stories and the Gable/Cukor one I heard him tell my Mother was how you tell it. The rest of what you said is how I know it.

I remember the rumors of Janet having a child back from the early 80's.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Huh, according to Wikipedia, I'm wrong:

"Olivia de Havilland said that she learned of George Cukor's firing from Vivien Leigh on the day the Atlanta bazaar scene was filmed. The pair went to Selznick's office in full costume and begged him to change his mind. Selznick apologized, but refused. Victor Fleming, who was directing The Wizard of Oz, was called in from MGM to complete the picture, although Cukor continued privately to coach Leigh and De Havilland."

Perhaps I'm confusing Cukor and Fleming? For a Windy such as myself, this is unfortunate.

    Also, RE: Gable:

"However, despite rumors about Gable being uncomfortable with Cukor on the set, nothing in the internal memos of David O. Selznick indicates or suggests that Clark Gable played any role in Cukor's dismissal from the film. Rather, they show Selznick's mounting dissatisfaction with Cukor's slow pace and quality of work."

  51. "The gerbil story around Philly involved a local newscaster though and everyone knew the nurse from the Emergency Room at the suburban hospital where he went. In 3 days everyone knew about it."

  52. I read Angie Bowie's book years ago & she talks about the Jagger/Bowie thing. Also saw the Joan Rivers episode when she talked about it!

Velvet Underground is loosly based on her book & David Bowie's obsession with Iggy Pop. One of my all-time favorite movies & soundtracks!

  54. Radar's got a story about a new book coming out, "Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger, by Christopher Andersen".

This is why it's back in the news again.

The best part, "Andersen claims that back-up singer Ava Cherry also supported the story of their affair with her own personal account.

"Ava Cherry, a backup singer who lived with the Bowies for a time, reportedly told a friend that 'Mick and David were really sexually obsessed with each other. Even though I was in bed with them many times, I ended up just watching them have sex,'" she allegedly said."

Amber, that paper contains facts. It's got the eighth-highest circulation in the world!

For those who don't know, here are some of the old rumors:

    1. Richard Gere had to have a gerbil surgically removed from his ass.

    2. Rod Stewart had to get his stomach pumped. It was full of semen and made him sick. (I doubt it's true that it was semen, but I don't doubt he had to get his stomach pumped at some point. It was the '70s)

    3. Elton John also had to get his stomach pumped because of semen.

    4. David Geffen and Keanu Reeves got married in an illegal gay wedding. David supposedly gave Keanu his start in the biz because Keanu was his boy toy.

    5. Angela Bowie, David's wife, walked in on Mick and David naked in bed. (I have no reason to doubt this. I still think David Bowie is sex on a stick.)

    6. Clark Gable supposedly got his start in Hollywood by sleeping with directors and casting agents. (Shocking. Not.)

    7. Milton Berle's penis was huge. (This has been verified.)

    8. Kate Hepburn and Spencer Tracy bearded for each other.

    9. Danny Kaye supposedly liked to lie underneath glass tables and have women shit on them.

    10. Clara Bow supposedly hosted gangbangs for the entire USC football team, including a young man who would go on to become John Wayne. (Not true. Bow was a huge USC football fan and often hosted parties at her estate for the team, coaches, trainers, alums, and boosters. No sex, though.)

  59. I totally believe that Bowie and Jagger fell into bed together.

@ Sis Cesspool - that would make sense that Stallone would be freaky like that. He was the popular guess for the actor who left scat all over beautiful hotel suites.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I used to work with a man who totally believed the gerbil story. Good Lord, he was annoyingly stupid.

So, to the Co$ posting committee, was a quick Tom-Kat resolution the best outcome for you?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hmm. I heard that rumor about Lil Kim in the 90s, that she had to have her stomach pumped and it was full of semen.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Not just a girlfriend, but Bowie's wife, Angela, who was "Angie" of the song.

Or that's the rumor I heard in about 1977.

    ReplyDelete
  63. 0_0 the tomkat posting committee..... tee hee....

    ReplyDelete
  64. I don't know if Rod Stewart is bi or not, but he is definitely a tease.

Back in the day -- late 70s -- I had a couple of encounters with him, including him inviting my friends and me to a party at Elton John's gay manager's house, and going to a gay bar with RS, Long John Baldry (Elton John's Sugar Bear) and an entourage. Rod Stewart was joking about how we'd be reading in the papers about him being gay. I truly can't remember if the stomach pumping rumour was before or after that.

Also -- the lady scat fetish wasn't Danny Kaye, it was Danny Thomas and there was no table involved. He liked it ON himself.

    ReplyDelete
  65. So the gerbil story, which was always presented to me as fact, but I always had my doubts....since it's "never happened at any hospital, ever" can I just conclude that it is not a sex act thing that happens at all? Because that would make me very relieved. Or am I still naive?

I heard the Bowie/Jagger story too, but I also heard Eric Clapton was with them both (not all at once). Never heard about Keanu with Geffen.

Never heard about the stomach pump story, but I don't understand it. How would that cause a blockage or a problem? Unless someone also swallowed a condom. (Prepare for that to be the next rumor.)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Angie Bowie's autobiography is a great read. She says that she came home and they were in bed naked and she woke them up - they were not "at it" or anything. From what I remember the boys have said they were experimenting with drugs and booze and may have ended up taking their clothes off at some point but they do not recall anything more than that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. David Geffen himself came out and debunked the Keanu rumour. Said he had never net Keanu but wished it was true.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Beg to differ about Gere. It is true, and he is certainly not the only person to have ever done something like that. You would be shocked at how many people show up at the ER with some crazy foreign object shoved up their asses. Must be a lot of clumsy people falling on gerbils, bottles, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  69. And as for Jagger and Bowie. Wow...that is so old and ho hum. Even as a midwestern teenager, I didn't find that shocking at all! Give Mick enough booze and coke and Bowie could certainly have looked like Jerry Hall!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ Amber - "I'm reading the news" is what I say to my husband when I'm on CDAN. LOL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Heard all but the Keanu rumor. Odd since he's the only one in my "era"

    ReplyDelete
  72. The Bowie/Jagger rumor was on "Pop-up Video."

    ReplyDelete
  73. No, the song "Angie" is written about Mick's obsession over David (Angie)...everyone who knew them back in the day will say the same.
