Joe Giudice Is Going To Trial

It was not much of an offer that the State Of New Jersey offered Joe Giudice yesterday in court so he is going to trial to face charges that he fraudulently obtained a drivers license. The state offered him a sentence of five years in jail. The maximum he would get if convicted is ten years in jail. Can you imagine sentencing someone to ten years in jail for getting a fake drivers license? While you are at it you might as well put the entire freshmen and sophomore class of every university in jail for ten years too. Maybe they make some kind of distinction between fake i.d. and obtaining a fake driver's license, but ten years seems excessive. It really seems excessive when you see that in NJ, if you kill someone while drinking and driving, you can get a sentence as low as three years in jail. Take a life and you are out in a third of the time you get for obtaining a fake driver's license. Joe goes to trial probably next year some time. He has to go back to court on October 1 for the trial setting date.

  1. Oh, Tre was on Watch What Happens Live Sunday night and Andy asked her about Joe and this case and she would not comment.

I think they will try to make an example out of him because they are on TV.

  2. Wait. Why the hell did he get a fake DL? Remember in License to Drive when Corey Haim failed his DL test, but he took Mercedes on a date anyway, and shenanigans ensued. God, the 80s were great.

  3. Didn't he get his license suspended for drunk driving and then get caught with the fake when he drove drunk again? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. If that IS the case then fuck him.

  4. I remember something about him taking his brother's ID to get a DL...His was suspended for driving drunk. I think they'll throw the book at him to make an example out of him, but honestly he kinda deserves it for drinking and driving! That is one of the most selfish things people do! He should've just had a driver, what a dumbass... But I do like Tre's suit, she is one crazy unapologetic bitch and I love it!

  5. ironic that with all the financial fraud they have been accused of, he could do hard time for a fake license

  6. IIRC, he got his license suspended for drunk driving, but wasn't drunk when he got caught with his brother's DL. Still clearly illegal, and kind of ironic, as Rickatoo pointed out. I also agree that were he not a quasi-celeb, they wouldn't throw the book at him. Hmm.

  7. Joe had his license suspended for drunk driving. Then he took his brothers papers and obtained a license with his name. The brother was pulled over after flipping his car (I'm not 100% I could be mixing them up but he might have been drunk). So the cops scanned his license and Joe's pic came up and they were like WTF? So that's how Joe got caught. And scene.

  8. I shouldn't say this but a family member of mine went into her parents attic when she was a teenager saying she was doing some school project and needed family documents. She took her older sisters birth certificate and went to DMV and got a fake drivers lisence!!! This was after she "was given some lady she worked with after she didn't need it anymore" who was 15 years older and looked nothing like her. OMG except that's when this family member started dying her hair really dark, just like the pic lol!! This was 20 something years ago, hopefully no statute left! But holy shit Joe could be my family member!

  9. You got most of it, kats, according to the stellar journalism of RadarOnline. Joe flipped HIS truck when he was drunk. He lost his license, clearly, and then he took marriage and birth certificates from his brother to get a NEW license. His brother got pulled over -- sounds like it was a random stop -- and when they ran his info, Juicy's photo came up.

And for those who find it harsh for a driver's license situation, it's actually considered fraud -- well, wrongful identity and impersonation in this case -- so...there we go.

  10. Oh, maybe nobody here was saying it was a stiff sentence. Sorry.

  11. Yeah he apparently use his brother information and went and got his picture on it so it is more of a fraud thing then anything else. Teenager may have fake ID's but they are not going to the DMV to get them.

  12. He was indicted on one count of wrongfully using identifying information, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, and one count of impersonation, which carries maximum 18-month prison sentence.

  13. Aw look how cute those two are in their matching suits

  14. He wasnt' caught with his brother's ID. The brother was pulled over for something and when the police ran the license Joe's photo came up.

  15. "Pietro Giudice was pulled over during a routine traffic stop."
Key is"Routine traffic stop" in NJ.

My money is on one of the RHONJ or Bravo producers calling law enforcement to alert them that they 'heard' Joe was driving ( civic duty and all) ...

It would then take cops 5 minutes to figure out the link to his brother Pietro's DL application and then stop Pietro for whatever reason in order to get to Joe...

Great story line, don't you think?

  16. What a waste of time & tax $$$
Leave Juicy alone & prosecute violent criminals!
5 years was the deal? You gotta be kidding me! Rapists get less time than that! He should get 60 days, max, & a hefty fine, IMO.

  17. I'm surprised they're still together, TBH.

  18. I think the harsh driver's license penalties are a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. If I recall correctly, NJ imposed these jail terms as a way to prevent terrorists from getting fake IDs. So, I see your point about the college students and all, but I do believe that is why the jail time is so stiff. Please correct me if I'm wrong, CDANers.

Whoever came up with the idea to put Teresa Guidice and Renee Graziano on WWHL was a major genius. That show would be SO much better if Andy Cohan was NOT the host.

Am I the only RHNJ watcher who is SO ready for the season to wrap? Just show me the grand finale at the fashion show and the reunions please. This shit is getting stale. There is so much drama behind the scenes that they don't touch upon. And I HATE the Manzos with all of my being. Talk about a miserable family.

  19. rejectedcarebear, Indeed! I detest these two most of the time on the show, but I have almost never detested their outfits.

  20. Oh, man thank God I didn't get caught with my fake ID back in the day. We all had one...lol 10 years is rough!!!!

  21. The big difference here is that we were under the age of 21, and fraudulently tried to get a license to buy a beer or go to a club.

This entitled prick is drinking and driving and wrecking. He should not be on the roads. Did he really think he wasn't going to get caught? He is freaking on TV! I am sorry but this family and their clear lack of respect for the law infuriates me. I hate that they flaunt their lifestyle on TV and we pay for it.

  23. "ironic that with all the financial fraud they have been accused of, he could do hard time for a fake license"

Actually it is the Lauritas (Chris & Jax) who are being sued for financial fraud, not the Guidices. Teresa has already paid off the money she owed in bills and Joe is working on his debts. It was the Lauritas who defrauded their business partners by laundering money and moving money from certain accounts to others to hide profits and spending. Then there is the situation with the Manzos and Al Sr. being on the water commission.

  24. If he did it why not plead guilty. How can they afford a trial, and if it goes to trial then he is found guilty, is the sentence harsher?

  25. No, you are not alone--this season is REALLY long....I'm only sticking with it for the Posh Fashion show where the shit hits the fan...and of course the reunion.

ALL of it went down before LAST season's reunion so they've had a whole year to get their stories straight.

Much as I hate to say it, I think Caroline is right...Juicy will do time...Teresa will be the suffering prison bride......there's a book in there somewhere.

  26. I read on another blog that he showed up to court w/out Tre, was late and sporting jeans. :-/

So, his lawyers didn't take the plea b/c they think they can get him out on probation for having a clean previous record. But how is that possible if he had a DUI?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Caroline must be thrilled. Her predictions seem to be coming true. As she said, "You heard it here first!"

I wonder if there's an Italian word for "schadenfreude"?

  28. I also dislike the Manzo family (except for Dina)!
