Man Arrested Prior To 20 Year High School Reunion

A 20 year high school reunion. That is a long time. After 20 years away from high school, how many names do you think you could remember? Well, a man in San Antonio apparently remembered a lot of the names and was arrested after he threatened to kill them all at the 20 year high school reunion of his class. Jason Moss says he was bullied throughout his entire time in school and wrote on the Facebook page of the reunion that it was going to be like Columbine. You know, advertising your plan is probably not the best way to go if you are really going to do the whole mass shooting thing. I know none of you have probably watched Billy Madison, but it reminds of me of the scene where Adam Sandler apologizes to Steve Buscemi for bullying him and Steve crosses him off the to kill list before applying some more lipstick. I think so many of us move on with our lives and put everything in the rearview mirror, but to a person who was bullied or had four years of bullying and torture, maybe it is not so easy to put everything behind them.

  4. Gee, Josh - for a lot of people it scars them for life.I'll bet they would love to get over it, but they can't.

  5. Strawberry Girl! That is NOT nice! I somewhat agree with you Josh, but there are varying degrees of bullying. At the top end of the spectrum I think those people never get over it without serious support & therapy.

  6. I have my 20-year HS reunion next year. HS wasn't a very good time for me, but I'm going back to my reunion successful, happy, and living my life 3,000 miles away from where I grew up! :)

  7. @mngddess, agree with that, but devising a plan to kill his former tormentors is beyond the pale. Thank goodness he was too inept to pull it off.

  8. I feel sorry for him, but am glad no one was hurt. What a tortured soul. :(

    1. Well said @MadLyb. My heart breaks for those who get bullied. I'm also sad that he's still stuck in his past. That's the saddest part. The best revenge is a happy life.

  9. Jeesh, buddy get some help.

If each one of us killed people who were mean there wouldn't be anybody left.

  10. WOW!! Thank goodness he was stopped. Threats like this do need to be taken seriously.

One girl from my high school class did something like this--well, sans violence. She took a bus 500 miles to our 20th reunion, where she screamed at a number of people who had "treated her badly." Fortunately I was not one of them. But the funny thing was, all of them were like, "...um....what? I don't recall ever so much as having a conversation with you? Or even a class...???" So bizarre.

  11. A lot of people get bullied in high school. Not a lot of people threaten to kill everyone at the reunion.

  12. @strawberry girl, come on now he can only fly if he has a magic feather.

Sounds like a lonely guy looking for attention, he needs help clearly. What was he going to do oxygen everyone to death?

  13. The thing is this, there a many levels of bullying. Yes pretty much everyone has had some type of bullying happen to them in their youth and of course it makes you stronger and you move on from it. But I can remember some kids I went to school with that were brutally bullied. Constant name calling, pants being pulled down in the middle of the very busy hallways. Obviously, not sure what extreme this guy had but sometimes its not that easy to "just get over it". Just be thankful you had a less torturous youth experience.

    Wow...20 year reunion?
We don't even have the 5 year reunion we're suppose to have this year. That's how close our class was.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Ditto that. No 5 year or 10 year for us. I'm guessing there won't be any of the future reunions either. Everyone is on FB now. Kinda makes a reunion irrelevant maybe

  16. People really don't remember names? I had a class of 381, and probably had classes and interaction with 200 or so, and maybe I wouldn't recognize them now, depending how they've aged, but if I saw photos from the time, I'd remember most if not all. Is that really unusual? I would go to my 25th in a couple years to test it out, but I haven't accomplished anything so I don't want to give them the satisfaction of knowing they really are better than me like they said all along.

  17. Oh but also meant to add... Now having thoughts of killing people, now that's just bat shit crazy.

  20. I've forgotten the vast majority of the assholes I went to school with. Granted I refuse to add them when they friend me on Facebook, but still.

  21. There were about 100 something girls (i went to an all girl school) who graduated my year. I remember mostly everyone then again we only graduated 10 years ago.

I use to get on this girls nerves at school because she was such a liar. She claimed she was dating Ryan Gosling when he was in that show Breaker High and magically right before from prom they break up.

Anyways, I always knew she was a loser because about 3 years ago she got arrested for sexually assulting a 13 year old (she was 26 at the time) and now is a registered sex offender.

  24. Well, this is very sad. He must be very damaged indeed if he's still seeking vengeance for high school. After all, reunions are definitely voluntary - if you hate everyone you went to HS with, for Christsakes, don't go to the reunion!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ummm, Frufra - I think that is one of the most reasonable things I have ever heard.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Exactly, Frufra! I was in Korea during the 5-year reunion and my friend from high school asked me if I was going. A page full of "HAHAHAHAHAHA" signed "Hell no" later and I was never invited to the 10th.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I helped organize several reunions for my high school class, but what I've learned about many of my classmates on Facebook has pretty much killed any desire I have to ever attend another one. I'm already in touch with the people I really want to be in touch with.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Is that a mugshot or a portrait by Deb from Napoleon Dynamite?

Poor guy but c'mon, it was twenty years ago. I get super hung up on things and even I don't care about middle school and high school horrors. Except if ever see Eric Mendez again I will kick him right in the store.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think he intended on carrying out his plan if he posted about it on Fbook. Or he's just that stupid. He looks crazy, not stupid.

I graduated with 114, 78 of which were there K-12, myself included. People don't recognize me quite frequently. I think it's a mix of me being a late bloomer (like, 19 suddenly boobs grew) and me being pretty good at disappearing when I wanted to. I was in plays and the Pres of a few clubs but you wouldn't even know I was there in my classes most of the time.

Our class was notorious for their utter apathy. We haven't had a reunion yet and I'm not sure we ever will.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Other sources for this story make it sound as if the guy was not serious with his threat. He was released by police with a misdemeanor and never showed up to the reunion. He mentioned Columbine only in saying that's what he felt like doing in high school, not what he planned to do at the reunion. Surprised at the twist of words by Enty.

    ReplyDelete
  31. hunter and Vicki - y'all are the type of gals I actually want to associate with!

Agree that FB has killed (no pun intended) the HS reunion biz. The class a few years ahead of mine planned this big shindig on FB, then sent out embarrassing, pleading messages when NO ONE sent their money in for the big weekend. I mean, there were literally 4 responses out of maybe 500 people.

They ended up getting together at someone's house and then posting the pathetic pics on FB. So that was fun for me, to make fun of them in the comfort of my own home hundreds of miles away.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You can get arrested for making a threat nowadays? I didn't know that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bullying is a nasty, cowardly thing to do. This guy may have had nothing else in his life but the memories, and the hate it fostered.

He either didn't think this through, or wanted to be caught but still have everyone knowing what he wanted to do.

He never learned you have to let go of the past to move on into the future. Sad and scary.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I actually had a pretty good time in high school, and have many friends still in my life from that time. Our class wasn't really "clique'y" though, everyone just got along. I even remember when we had parties and we'd make an effort to invite everyone, even the girl who never spoke to anyone (who then got extremely drunk and threw up on my grandparent's couch, but that's a different story).

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Sunnyhorse, Facebook reveals a lot I didn't want to know about my former classmates, too. Some have developed rabid political delusions, and a bunch have just turned into their parents (not so bad!).

  36. My 45 year reunion is coming up. I have never been to one since I went to 3 HS for my Junior and Senior years and the only one that even invites me is the one I went to for 5 months my senior year. At lot of kids are bullied in HS. I was by older kids (boys) that had my father as their BS leader. At least they waited until after my freshmen yr and my older brother graduated. He was bullied because he was mixed and in love with a Black girl. At least when I was going to School in Cal my junior year no one Bullied me, but I had my cousin one year behind me in school and he was friends with Kevin Costner so I got to know him and did things with my cousin and all his friends (boys). I know some stuff.

  41. My high school class graduated in 1981 with a class of 150. We had our 30th last year and people came from all over. A bunch of us went to Las Vegas the year we turned 40 and again for 45...will do so again next year when we all turn 50!

But then, we were a more rural school in a geographically isolated part of the country. No one was rich, there wasn't the kind of competition that I hear about in other schools. Overall a really nice bunch of people.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My zero interest in reconnecting with high school acquaintances is the main reason I've avoided joining Facebook. That and the fact that the only real explanation of why people my age join seems to be to spy on their own kids & be nosy about their friends' kids. No thanks. I prefer old school anonymous internet.

  47. I have stayed far, far away from all of my HS reunions. Facebook is much better at giving you the 'what's happening now' info without having to go through the 'i'm pretending to be richer/more successful than I am because I am wearing an expensive dress and have a hot spouse' crapola.

  48. What kind of person hasn't seen Billy Madison? There really can't be people that haven't seen it, it's great.

  50. Oh. It would have been nice to just 'get over it'. I think it takes ten positives to overcome a negative. When you experience the negative too much it plays on your mind. It took 20 years and a lot of soul searching to get over my bullying. Yet, I never once thought of killing anyone.
The odd part is, with the invention of social media, many of the now grown up bullies love me. I don't get it, either.
Last reunion I remembered less than twenty people. Of those people I have been in regular contact with fifteen. Least, the reunion was cheap and the food was tasty.

  51. wow what a tool!

I was bullied in high school, that never bothered me much except for one dude, who was pretty bad, anyhow I found out that 4years after high school, and not having anybody around to bully to make himself feel better, he killed himself. Now that's Karma!

  52. I experienced bullying in junior high. It was one guy in particular that picked on and insulted 2 or 3 of us. guess what he does for a living? Hollywood talent agent and producer. put those skills to good use, eh?

I'm a sucker for the underdog. I seriously cried during the trailer for that Bully documentary. Like major tears! I truly hope he gets some help. I think this a lesson to be kind whenever we can bc you never know how your words will affect someone. Sheesh! I sound like a damn PSA!

PS - Normally I'm a raging bitch but my BF has asked me to be kinder. I'm trying on some new shoes :)

  55. Do we know why someone this young is on oxygen?

I did actually go to my 30th reunion a couple of years ago; didn't have a date or a husband to brag about and needed a way there (I don't know how to drive; yes, I know, I'm totally unAmerican), so I went w/one of my best friends from home who's a couple of years older, who dated 2 different guys in my class. It all went pretty well, pretty laid back and friendly--I think everybody had pretty much gotten over high school and acquired some perspective (the one good thing about getting older, eh?), although most of them were pretty decent anyway, and the one or two people I didn't care for at the time weren't there anyway; also, there were only about 45 people in my class (small rural consolidated school district), and most of us had known each other at least since junior high, if not elementary school. (The fact that 2 of our classmates have already passed on tends to put things in perspective, too; they were both good guys and very much missed.)

Now junior high, on the other hand...THAT blew big squealing hairy chunks, bigtime. No idea what happened to the girl who bullied me in 7th grade, because she moved away, but hopefully karma kicked her ass down the line. I just remember a few years back being at a flea market and trying on a perfume that I'd worn a lot back then from Avon called Sweet Honesty--one spritz took me right back to 1973, and believe me, that's NOT a place I ever want to go back to! I couldn't wash that stuff off fast enough...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh, and I just want to say for the record that I wore the same black cotton eyelet shift dress w/a square neckline, poufy sleeves & bigass pockets on the front to both my 30th high school reunion and my very last Nine Inch Nails show (which I wrote about for this very blog back in August of '09). Somehow, I get a big kick out of that one... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. I went to an all girls high school and can't remember any of them! Don't need to go to my reunions with facebook. Even my elementary school does reunions! We are coming on our 25th reunion in two years. I missed the five, ten, and twenty, so 25th won't be too hard to miss either!

20 years is a long time to hold on to that stuff. It will kill you.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sounds like a cry for help!

  59. I was tortured every single day of my life from fifth grade through high school. Hell, two of the girls I was bullied by started coming by the Waffle House where I worked two years after graduation to continue the fun. I didn't wait on them, I just smoked in the back room and shot them dirty looks through the one-way glass.
I understand how someone can be murderously angry. I understand the want, the NEED for revenge. I understand having regret for not standing up to people or not being tough enough to make them stop hurting you. I even understand what this guy did. I'm just glad I'm past all that shit now, and no one remembers anything. Let me tell you, people were asking at the ten year reunion "where is Jess?" Certainly not at any damn reunion, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Why does he look like he just got done smoking bath salts?

    ReplyDelete
  61. old ;ady you wrote that your 45 year reunion is coming up and after that wrote that you are 57. I am confused. Were you a 12 year old prodigy when you graduated or did you mean 40th year reunion? I'm always tripped up when math doesn't add up right.

Jesse D: I had a rough time of it too. Like, every bus ride for me was like the one the bus monitor had, only I was young and lacked perspective. For me it was my whole life, and therefore it has become my life. My internal voice is not much kinder to me. I went to my 10 year reunion and was truly surprised at how little their lives intersected mine anymore, a surprise because every day I feel like I am still living it. I didn't get invited to the 20th, and I don't know if in 2014 we'll be having 25th, and I don't think I'd want to go. It was one thing still being in a "nothing job" after 10 years (5-6 years after college), but to be in the same nothing job after 25th years and no kids to brag about kinda keeps me from wanting to see anyone I know (or used to).

  64. I hate bullies. I speak up now. And it is a myth that it stops once you leave school. There are bullies everywhere. I am not speaking to someone at work because he has raised his voice at me twice with no provocation and no reason to do so. He yells at the blokes as well, but he is a misogynist. I have calmly informed the boss if it happens again I am going to the police. I also told him that I will say hello and goodbye and be professional in my conduct, but I will have no further personal conversations with him. It is very empowering.

    ReplyDelete
  65. One hopes that modern anti-bullying campaigns have given victims some power back. If only there were an easy cure for the impotence and rage felt by those who never received justice against abuse.

On a side note, don't run a photo of a guy with tubes in his nose and not explain. Somewhere. No, making me click a link does not count. Put it in the caption.

Cardinal rule for those publishing information: Don't raise a question and not answer it. Don't raise a question and not answer it. Don't raise a question and not answer it.
