NBC Does What They Should Have Done In The First Place - Send Hoda

I admit that I thought NBC was going to replace Ann Curry with Hoda Kotb. It is what I was told and a lot of others were told. Hoda is really popular and Savannah Guthrie was just seen as another Ann, but without the Angelina Jolie wallpaper. I think Matt probably just wanted to sleep with Savannah more so thought it would be fun to flirt with Savannah everyday and not Hoda. With the ratings in the toilet and the Olympics not even helping much, NBC sent Hoda to London over the weekend to try and help out the show. Today wanted her so much that they actually had to pay her a bonus because she was supposed to be going on vacation for two weeks with the rest of the fourth hour of Today. Should have hired her in the first place. I think it's interesting that NBC doesn't listen to the people that actually watch the show. They did this so fast and so crazy and listened to Matt and his little Matt and think they forgot about how popular Hoda is. Of course it could just be the wine.

  1. LOVE HER. I can't believe NBC wastes her talents hanging with friggin' Kathy Lee. Every time she is allowed to anchor, she does a fantastic job and I'm left wondering why she doesn't have the anchor job in the first place.

  2. Now all they have to do is get Ryan S out of London too. There are no Kartrashian sighting over there-why would they send him to cover "real news"?

  3. It's time for Matt to go...

  4. +1 on "Seacrest out." He is absolutely useless....

  5. I'm on the "wtf is Seacrest at the Olympics for" train. I can't stand him.

  6. Ryan, Matt, and forgive me because I use to like her Meredith are ruining the Olympic coverage for me...their voice, side comments, and faces are getting on my last nerve. NBC needs to ship them back here.

  7. I love Hoda. She use to be our local news anchor in New Orleans. Anyhoo, I would be laughing at them now if I were Ann. They got rid of her because she was not bringing in the ratings. Well, now she is gone and there are still low ratings.

  8. NBC Entertainment sucks.
    NBC News (i.e. Today)sucks more.
NBC Olympic coverage sucks the most.

Showing us pre-recorded events as if they are live. Blocking part of the opening ceremony to show Ryan's interview with Phelps and his family (could have waited). And our favorite from last night...right before the race for that 17 year old swimmer from Colorado (Missy), they aired a preview for today showing the "exclusive" first reunion with her parents since winning the gold medal. Which, she won earlier that day but NBC didn't show it till after that commercial. The rest of the world is seeing the events in real time - live. How many more Olympics do we have to suffer with this coverage. Please bring back Jim McKay and ABC Wide World of Sports. Yes, I know Jim has passed, but he would still do a better job than those peacocks.

  9. I HATE NBC AFTER HOW THEY BUTCHERED THE OLYMPICS!!!!!!!!!! Did anyone see the story today how they aired a commercial of a swimmer winnning a gold medal before they felt like airing the actual race? I am so confused what I'm watching that I'm only streaming online. And they are assholes for that too bc they're blocking all the third party streams so I was forced to watch a soccer match a few days ago with NO COMMENTARY! Do you know how weird that was? They blew it. And as for the guy they got banned on twitter? It got worse! He tweeted the corporate address of the NBC guy to complain to about the tape delay. It was Twitter who alerted the guy and SENT him the complaint form to fill out. So the guy got banned but now will be allowed back if he writes a letter of apology to the guy! How third grade does that make you feel? Just say you're sorry and you can go back outside to recess. Oh NBC and twitter formed a partnership for the Olympics....

  10. Why is Ryan there? These athletes have real talent, he doesn't know what to do with talented people!

  11. Awww you guys, Ryan is great at what he does.

I am hating all the spoilers re the winners too. Grrr

  12. They should also fire Jenna Bush Hager. She is the absolute WORST! She is so awkward and cocks her head back and forth while introducing her boring stories while her voice drones on and on and on. UGH. Get rid of her, PLEASE.

  13. We have ten channels here in Brasil showing the Olympics via satellite. Plus two over-the-air free and four more in HDTV. All in real time with replays going all night. Besides cut-ins whenever any live action involving any athlete from here occurs

  14. Hoda is about the only good thing left on the today show - but I don't watch because KL makes my skin crawl. Get Hoda off that 4th hour and give her a real job! She's smart, she's funny and she's professional.

  15. It's past time for Matt to go. Why can't NBC see this?

  16. Does anyone know where I can watch the opening ceremonies? I was on vacation, missed it and now all I can find are 40 second 'highlights' or animation versions of it.

Also - cannot stand NBC! I could not believe that they cut out the 7/7 tribute to show SEacrest interviewing Phelps and used the excuse that Americans wouldn't be interested in it as it didn't affect us directly.

    1. There are parts of the opening ceremonies On Demand. I have Comcast/Xfinity. It's not very complete but it was something. Also, see what you can find online.

  17. @Aly - no need to rub it in ;)

  18. I used to love the Olympics. Now it's all pre-packaged crap. NBC is making a giant mess. And I'd rather watch all day marathon of house hunters than dumb Matt and Ryan being douchey.

Fire Matt! He was always the problem! Ann Curry is laughing hysterically somewhere grateful for her freedom and her severance package.

@aly - Can we come watch the Olympics at your house? I need some beach time too ;)

  19. So when will the light bulb go off at NBC that Matt is mostly the reason for the low ratings and not the co-anchors? And I have no words for Seacrest at the Olympics - it's just wrong on so many levels. I hope and pray NBC loses their right to future broadcasts.

  20. Here is another viewer shocked that Seacrest is at the Olympics. Even my husband asked why the hell he was there.

  21. Am I the only person who likes Seacrest? And I don't even watch Idol. I just find him cute and pleasant.

  22. Cancan I always stick up for Ryan. He's a consummate pro and so good at his job. People don't realize how hard it is to host live.
    Hardest working dude in Hwood.

  23. I think my disdain for Seacrest it due to the KardASSian's. They have taken over E! all because of him.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like Seacrest hosting. When I see him, I know it's going to flow smoothly. He's not there to do a cut throat interview, it's just going to be simple, to the point, get the job done on time. Hate him for being too nice and trying not to make the star uncomfortable. Ok or find him boring but he does the job. Would you rather have Brian Dunkleman?

  25. Love Hoda. Wish she'd ditch that annoying priss KL. She could carry a show, and have any co-anchor or revolving co-anhors she wants.

  26. @ohno - I'd like to see the opening ceremonies too - I missed the last hour or so (fell asleep). I did read on mediabistro that Hoda going there at this time had been announced weeks ago.

As for delaying showing some events, I think that's because that's the way the networks USED to do it before Twitter, the internet, etc. You'd think NBC would have figured that out by now and made some changes as of yesterday. At least when the Olympics are in Rio, they're only 1 hour ahead of us.

  27. The NBC Olympic coverage is appalling on so many levels--Seacrest, time delay, etc. However, I was the most DISGUSTED with how that poor gymnast Jordyn Weiber was treated by them the other night. Instead of focusing on the Aly Reisman and her happiness, NBC cameramen zoomed in on Weiber's face while she cried for like 10 MINUTES! All they kept talking about was her devastation, and they totally ignored Aly's happiness! They even made her stand in the background and cry while the interviewed Aly. What kind of world is this when the media is shoving someone's failure down our throats while ignoring someone else's victory? They are so desperate for drama to get ratings that it's sickening. This is the American media today, HOW PATHETIC!

  28. Matt is too busy thinking about getting laid to make a rational decision that would actually help the show and not him. He should have been the one out the door. The dude is boring and vain. Nothing remotely interesting about him. Ann should be laughing her ass off right now. They got rid of her b/c they thought she was the cause of the ratings declining. She is gone and they are still going south. lol.

  29. Oh good Lord, somebody get Andrea Kremer away from the pool! I thought her questions on the football field were bad, but she's topped herself interviewing swimmers after their races.

After Ryan's loss (he looked so sad), Andrea says something like...."So, Lochte, what happened out there?"

She's terrible. I'd take ten Ryans or even Matts to one of her.

  30. I've watched as much prime time Olympics as I've been able to and I too am tired of most of the Today show crew. Love Al and Hoda but the rest can be replaced as far as I'm concerned. Am I the only one that things Seacrest looks SO out of place over there?

    ReplyDelete
  31. It sounds like the executives need to be fired too if they "forgot" about Hoda. What a train wreck. They should fire Matt, bring in Lester and Hoda and keep Natalie.

  32. Everyone has such terrific points about the lousy Olympics coverage, I can't address all of you.

The swimming interviews--terrible. Same questions to every person. Also the gymnastics interview while Wieber (sp) cried her baby face off--tasteless.

Seacrest--I DO so admire his ambition & professionalism, I really do. But he's way over-saturated. And his ambition thrust the K's upon us too.

NBC is 'telling the stories' of certain athletes, then, lo and behold, THAT athlete wins something. FFS, it's like they hired all their old Soap Opera writers to piece together this 'coverage.'

I already know the ladies won gymnastics gold, so tonight I don't have to watch. This is the way of the future, and NBC needs to catch up to the rest of the world. NBC's tape-delay BS has RUINED the fun of watching along without knowing the outcome, which is MOST of the suspense in sports. Jebus!

  33. I told them to hire Hoda!

Ann did a really good job reporting in Aurora. Tragedy really is her strong suit.

My thought is Matt moves on to his own talk show or something and Hoda and Lester Holt and Willie Giest take over. Now if I could think who to put in Al's chair.

  34. Four hours??? Really? People actually watch four hours of news and shit in the morning? Wow--my tv doesn't go on until I get home in the late afternoon.

  35. NBC just sucks balls! Their coverage of the Olympics is horrendous. I love how my local non NBC stations give out all the juicy stuff about the winners!

I'm going to keep on watching Charlie Rose.
