Steven Tyler Leaving American Idol

Yesterday Steven Tyler announced that he was leaving American Idol because he wanted to focus on his music and because he was scared of Ryan Seacrest's hair. Aerosmith has a new album coming out in November which means press and a tour. He will probably get a guest spot on Idol at some point to help push sales, but you never got the feeling this is what Steven Tyler was going to be doing for the next ten years. With hints that Randy Jackson is leaving too, then they might as well show Jennifer Lopez the door and just replace all the judges with Jonas Brothers. Why not? When one of them is sick or can't make it a week you can just put another in their place and call them a Jonas cousin or something. There are probably a million of them and they probably all look the same. One big Jonas Brothers contract and no messy individual contracts. They can have guest judges sit in who they have dated which would cover pretty much any person in the under 25 tween crowd.

  1. As much as I like him, it is time. Those three are the absolute worst judges ever. They offer not one bit of constructive criticism.

  2. Seems like it's time to pull the plug on this show. There are others around that are doing the same thing, and it has lost it's mojo.

Haven't watched the last four seasons. I don't miss it either.

  4. AI is old news now, no one wants to be on the show and the winners never amount to anything anymore. Before in the past, yes it meant something to win but not anymore. Also- maybe its my age bracket (I'm 25) but half the Stevens I met, always have the middle name Tyler, all because of him.

  5. This show has hit the skids. It's time to bow out, gracefully.

I haven't watched this show in years...i don't care what they do...but I bet X Factor will show them some ratings wars, with Britney on board....

  9. Oh good, another Aerosmith album. Thank God. Hopefully there's a big ol' ballad so strippers will have something new to dance to.

  11. I absolutely love, love, love him and only watched because he was there. Maybe not the best judge in the world, but I do think that he has the musical credibility to be a talent show judge. He was just too nice. It will be good to get back those 4 hours of my life each week come next January. I have a "date" with him next Saturday in Philadelphia - can't wait!

  12. Yeah, it was painful to watch him hit on the 15 year old hopefuls. Gross.

  13. My 19 yo receptionist is devastated that he is leaving. Where will I see Steve? How will I function without this man. I was laughing so hard I cried bc she was serious. Awww.

  14. Lol, anyone hear the ::crickets:: from Randy's corner?

Steven was fantastic in the endless audition rounds--he really did well in that arena, but once the top 12 or whatever started and they were in the theatre judging he really got stuck in his chair without that much to do or say. Love him but I think he's right to move on ...the show gave him a bit of a comeback and he's doing a lot better personally now, so why bother with it?

  15. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  16. Love Steven Tyler. I don't watch AI, but I think it's cool that he gave it a whirl and is now moving on. Love Aerosmith. They are totally on my bucket list of bands I must see live.

Sidenote: Jennifer Lopez is touring. I heard an ad on the radio this morning that she is performing this month at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Enrique Iglesias is a special guest. I wonder if it will be a lip-syncing extravaganza.

  17. Fox won't let it die, they still get good ratings and make decent money with it. The 3 new judges should be Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Adam Lambert. Now that would be worth watching.

  18. and Daughtry, Katherine McPhee, David Cook, and Carrie Underwood can make guest appearances. All those seasons of AI and I think those 7 are the only ones with some amount of success to show for it.

  19. "Enrique Iglesias is a special guest."

So, is that how they settled that huge battle they were having over who was the headliner of their tour?

  20. I love Steven too but I figured he'd move on if they toured again.
Since JLo is leaving as well, I can't wait to see if Randy stays. They should just cancel X-Factor and bring Simon and Paula back. I like FS's idea as well.
