Tom Arnold Shows Up For Roseanne Roast

It took 17 years, but Tom Arnold and Roseanne Barr finally were back in the same room over the weekend. Tom was the surprise guest at Roseanne's roast which is going to air on Comedy Central. Not many of the former Roseanne cast showed up. It really came down to only Becky 2 and DJ as the only attendees from the show until Tom Arnold made an appearance. It happened right at the end of the night and was still 50/50 until right before taping. The pair hugged each other when Tom finished roasting her and Roseanne seemed really moved that he bothered to show. She called him really brave and then said, "But Jesus Christ, how many jobs do I have to get that guy?"

Jane Lynch hosted which is probably a good thing because Jeffrey Ross was out of control. He made Colorado shooting jokes and was booed and came dressed as Joe Paterno complete with guys wearing towels and football helmets.

  1. It doesn't seem like it's been 17 years that they were together.

I love these CC roasts - some of them are better than others - but if Jane Lynch hosted, I'll see that pronto.

  2. The Roasts are funny but Jeff Ross is a bitter jackass. I'm glad Jane hosted, she's fantastic.

  3. I could never stand this woman. However, this should be an interesting one to see.

  4. I think the best one of all time (of the ones I have seen) is the Larry the Cable Guy roast. I really love crazy Roseanne and hope this one is done well.

  5. Wasn't John Goodman her costar on Roseanne? I know she was married to Tom Arnold but he wasn't part of the cast was he?

  6. FSP. Your av. lol

  7. hunter, John Goodman played Dan - her husband. Tom Arnold was a friend of theirs on the show. Sandra Bernhardt was also a friend on the show.

  8. Lol FSP. Can't wait to see this roast, I watched the bob saget one recently, lots of Olsen twin jokes.

  9. Jeff Ross is defined as an 'insult comic' so this is to be expected. Passes as humor for some, I guess.I never found him to be creative or witty.

  10. She looks fantastic here. Love the hair. We must remember, though, that she was quite the poster child for plastic surgery back in the day. But I think she's quit while she was ahead. Is she still a pistachio farmer (or whatever tree nut it was)?

  11. Thanks Amber, nice memory! :)

Frufra - I remember an article saying that Roseanne had had a minor facelift early on (mid-40s?) and that she was glad because as she aged it looked very natural and was quite preventative. I will say she certainly does not look like a plastic surgery "victim."

  12. I miss Greg Giraldo, that man was hysterical, best roaster ever, that said I might catch this whenever it airs.

  13. Yes Kewi! He made every roast so much better. RIP Greg!

  14. ditto on Greg Giraldo . Loved him on Root of All Evil .

  15. Roseanne made him very very rich, why not show up...wonder what he has left ? How many wife's has he has since Roseanne ?

  16. Arnie! I've seen every episode probably 10 times and the one with Arnie (Tom) going off with the aliens at the end is fucking hysterical. Her show really was great. Kind of jumped the shark the last 2 seasons but that's how long running shows sometimes go. And Jeff Ross is a disgusting human being.

  17. For AuntJess - "For God's sakes people rob liquor stores all the time....I SLEPT WITH ARNIE!!!"

  18. was there some sort of fued between roseanne and the rest of her castmates on her show? i'm confused as to why no one else showed up to the roast...

  19. never liked that show to be honest, but I did appreciate how it changed the landscape of sitcoms. I heard Roseanne got a presidential nomination from her party. Left me speechless.

  20. I also miss Greg giraldo. Love the comedy central roasts, cannot wait. My favorite one for sure was Flava Flav.

  23. "I heard Roseanne got a presidential nomination from her party."

IIRC, it's HER party. SHE started it. Why wouldn't she get the nom?!

  24. I liked the Jeff Foxworthy roast--it was much cleaner than the ones that have come after it. I generally find the roasts to be hilarious except for a handful of really distasteful jokes--usually from Jeff Ross.

I almost miss Greg Giraldo. He was always one of my favorites.

  25. Another Greg fan here. I miss him too.
Can't wait for this roast. Should be good!

  26. I liked Bob Saget's roast. Lots of jokes about the Trollsons.

How come her former Roseanne cast mates didn't show? No George Clooney? No John Goodman? What about the chick who played her sister? Heck, no Sara Gilbert? Couldn't Sara get away from her View knockoff for a day?

    Smells really fishy to me.

  27. I think she looks fabulous too! Huge role model for me growing up. Loved her loud, no nonsense attitude. She was honest and spoke her mind. Loved her! Didn't always love everything she said but inspiring that she had the courage to be so open. My mom hated her, so of course I loved Roseanne even more!

  28. Remember George Clooney on Roseanne?

  29. Its nice that they can bury the hatchet for a laugh. Easier said than done.

  30. Jane please tell me you remember the "dads dead" episode. "He's dead. Dads dead! HE DIED!...dad sends his love" THE BEST EVER! Jackie was the best.

Jeff ross is absolutely inappropriate douchey asshole. Its way too soon to make fun of raping children for twenty years. Ross is a tool. I hope he goes away. Hes never funny. Always goes for shock and disgust being offensive not funny. I hope one of the penn state victims goes after him. Seriously. He has no idea where the line is and if he does hes trying to get negative attention. Like the class clown always getting in trouble acting inapropriately becuz theyre desperate for any attention even bad.

  32. I for one loved her show, reminded me a lot of sOme of my family.

  33. @Hunter, she had her face completely re-done. I can't remember if it was while Roseanne was still on but she had a ton of work done. Although my memory is that it all worked for her and she didn't look like a freak.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you for saying that, anita! I even found an article about it, but got busy and didn't return to post it.

I don't want to sound like a huge hater, but she had a ton of work done, and if memory serves, she even mocked herself in the opening credits of the show near the end of its run, doing a montage thing that showed how her face changed over the years. Remember, it also showed Becky 1 and Becky 2 morphing into each other?

  35. I wouldn't recognize her the way she looks now(older, thinner, different hair and grey) but I think she looks nice!

    ReplyDelete
  36. She looks fabulous! I listened to an interview with her an it was hilarious! I wish she would adopt me. I would totally be a farmer on Hawaii, free! As long as rosanne got to be my mom.

  37. I always thought Tom Arnold was a pretty good comic actor. I remember seeing him in a few movies where he was very good. Too bad he ever got mixed up with Roseanne Barr, she was a nightmare. I think he is actually capable of decent work.

  38. I can't wait to watch this...DVR's been set since last week! That's awesome that Tom showed up. I do think he's a decent comic...he cracked me up in Nine Months and some other movies. Loved Roseanne and still watch it on syndication.

  39. AuntJess - that is one of my all time favorite tv moments. In fact, I think Laurie Metcalf wasn't at the roast because she's doing Long Day's Journey on Broadway.

Roseanne got a facelift in 1994 I believe. After her and Tom divorced. There's a great article in EW about Roseanne's show. She said she loves it because as she's aged it looks somewhat natural and that if she didn't do it her face would be a mess.

  40. I love her macadamia nut show. She's a hoot!

    ReplyDelete
  41. George Clooney played Roseanne's supervisor on the first season. I think he was dating her sister on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  42. John Goodman not showing-up? Please! That guy shows-up for everything! He's all over guest spotting on stuff. For whatever reason, he took a pass on his TV wife. Same for Sara Gilbert.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I remember the first time I saw Roseanne on Carson..it was priceless, loved her show. Excellent cast, love seeing "Aunt Jackie" as sheldon's mom on Big Bang..Roseanne could be cast as Howard's mother

  44. Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Sandra Bernhardt, Clooney, John Goodman. I'm surprised more weren't there or sent a video roast.

  45. I think Becky 1, Lecy Goranson, Becky 2,Sarah Chalke were both there.

  46. Loved watching Roseanne as a kid, the reruns still have me pmsl

  47. Bah, explain the facelift away all you want Roseanne, it was still the beginning of the end of that show for me. She was supposed to be this lower class blue collar hero, and then she shows up on the show looking like a soap opera actress, all the rough edges scrubbed away. After that the storylines got more and more preposterous.

Always loved roseanne. When i caught her new show, i felt as if i'd reconnected with a long lost aunt.
