    Need you ask, Ento?

  4. This is a weird question. While sometimes you can't reason with people either, you can't reason with pets. My dog acts like a spaz sometimes, and try as I might I can't get him to understand that things would be much easier for him if he would just chill the F out.

  5. Animals!! I'm biased however, I'm currently snuggled up with my pit bull and my maine coon!

  6. No contest animals hands down. At least with animals you always know what their motivation is. You always know where you stand. You're either food or friend & you know this from the get go. Not like people who will stab you in the back while smiling to your face.

  7. I'm going to have to go with humans, because if I were alone with only animals, I'd get pretty lonely after a while.

  8. Animals. Humans are assholes.

  9. Why even ask ? Animals, they don't lie cheat or steal from you and love you even if you don't look your best.
Scratch steal my new puppy is a thief ..

  10. How is this a question? Animals.

    I hate people.

  11. Depends on the day. I like both a lot!

  12. Humanity is capable of such horrendous behaviour that the animals win hands down. I couldn’t do without either, my very survival depends on both.
Sometimes an animal story can tear my heart out, such as the doggie mom that saved her puppies which was posted here by Enty. Rarely will a human story of equivalent courage and aptitude get me in the same way. Let’s be honest....animals are far more intelligent and ‘knowing’ than we could ever understand.
I’ve always kept cats and I can always sense the connection between us and them.

  13. depends on the animal/human. this coming from a person with 60 or so various farm animals/pets.

  18. Agree with Tara - I'd miss being around humans after awhile but most people do get on my nerves. I like people in small doses. I wish animals no harm but I'm not a big animal person - although I do like (and have) cats.

  19. Humans can always surprise you and not always in a good way. Animals will never really surprise you. You know what to expect. I will go with animals.

    ReplyDelete
  20. We can play the humans-are-assholes game because it's a fun, contrarian perspective to toss off to be quirky. And for sure we have our problems. But there's no animal I'd love as intensely and deeply as any of my human loved ones.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Depends on which human and which animal!

Animals. Humans can't compare to their level of loyalty.

  25. I like humans, i am deff a ppl person . Although i believe the mean ones that hurt children at should be shot in the head after being castrated, still i believe in the human race.

  26. Animals. 'Nuff said.

  27. I don't like sleeping with my BF (I mean 'sleeping', not 'having sex with') but I like to sleep with my cat.

Is that weird? My cat's so cuddly!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Humans - I'd get rid of an animal if a situation required it but I'd keep my humans. Not to mention that animals are shit drinking buddies. They *never* pick up the fucking tab.

    ReplyDelete
  29. animals. i get invited once in a while to go do something, but i just dont have the money and nobody seems to try finding free things to do, or want to do something when i suggest it. my animals have been loyal through everything.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Em - I sleep with both! My man on the right and my cat on the left. :)

  34. I love my humans, but in general I'd choose animals.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Animals. They are way less complicated. I love their loving, healing energy. That being said, I want both animals AND drama-free, non-judgmental humans in my life.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think I'm kinda of 50-50 on this one. I have the greatest animals and some really great friends. But, this world would be a better place without my son in-law, who is all ready dating.

  39. ANIMALS, hands down.

But for the people who said animals win because they arent capable of committing needless violence you are SO forgetting the goings on of the animal kingdom.

The domestic house cat alone can be such a dick. My cats will play with their prey, torture them and draw it out and then break their neck and leave them there and go take an afternoon nap. NOT eating what they kill.

I guess animals win because there will never be a Zebra Hitler or a Khmer Rouge Giraffe. That scale of death and needlessness is something humans alone seem to excel at.

Also, animals win because their fur and skin colors are endlessly more facinating and awesome than humans.

And because NOTHING on this Earth is cuter than a baby animal, compared to a baby human ;-)

  44. The more people i meet, the better i like my cat. So i will say animals. Although i have some of the best friends ever, so i'm a big fan of humans, too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have seen animals do some really bad stuff- kill baby whale for fun, eat their young, fight to the death over a kill, so im gonna call it a draw on crappy behavior. Anyway, humans are animals too. I like both but if had to choose, id chose humans.

  46. Animals. People can be so disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I really like people and I love my pets. I have seen people do things with an enormous capacity of kindness, love, compassion and altruism. Call me idealistic but I believe people are, for the most part, very good. Luckily I haven't been disappointed so far. But I could not live without animals. They bring us so much comfort and joy selflessly. True Libra statement. We have to weigh everything.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Humans, hands down. ITA @Hayley Gault. People will disappoint you, hurt you, stab you in the back and break your heart, but you can't love animals like you can love people. Unless there's something wrong with you. God didn't put us here to "leave and cleave" to a dog LOL

    ReplyDelete
  49. Animals, definitely. I tear up when I see those ASPCA save-an-abandoned-pet commercials and don't feel nearly as bad for the save-a-child groups. There are certainly some people I like and some animals I'm sure I would not, but I could imagine billions of pets I would adore whereas finding a person to get along with... not so easy.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Animals, no question. Dogs in particular. Dogs rule, people drool.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Humans. As much as they can complicate the world there are those who can make it better. My 3 year old, my mother, Mother Theresa and RDJ to name a few;-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Depends on the day, people and animals can both get on my nerves when I don't want to be bothered. I guess for the most part I like both but I also like my alone time.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Animals. At least they don't throw used condoms in the street in front of my house (and I live in a area where some houses have sold for half a million dollars), animals don't throw garbage in the streets for me to pick up, animals don't shoot guns at people, and I could go on and on.

Wow, Jesse, you sure are being Judgey McJudgerton today. I, in fact, DO love my animals more than I do 99% of any and all people I've ever met, and there's nothing "wrong" with me. I'm just different from you. That doesn't make me or anyone else on here a freak.

And Hayley, you really need to spend more time with animals, if you think they aren't loyal or "conscious" (did you mean without a conscience? Because that's a totally different thing). Perhaps the reason you don't think animals are loyal is because you have never experienced it -- which, given your attitude toward animals, I'm not surprised by. If you love an animal, they will love you. Hell, even if you beat the ever-loving shit out of a dog, many of them will still defend you to the death. They are incredibly loyal beings.

And the question wasn't "which would you rather live without -- humans and their contributions to society, or animals and theirs." It was which one do we LIKE more. Totally different.

  57. Humans! I hate pretty much anything that walks on four legs and that is bigger than a gerbil. When I was smaller one of my cousins pet raccoons chased me around his yard until he got a hold of my ankle and bit me and I wouldn't let go. I can still vividly recall all the blood and scratches that came out as a result. After that I've pretty much disliked any furry critter.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It depends on the human and the animal, but I can definitely say that I'll take my cat Jezebel--as much of a royal pain in the butt as she can be at times--over a hell of a lot of people. She really is my baby in a lot of ways, and I know I'll be a complete and utter wreck when she goes (which hopefully won't be for several more years; she's 16 now). Not to say I don't care about people at all, because I do, but if you really want to see me fall apart, make me watch those "adopt a homeless pet" ads w/the montage of animals & someone singing mornfully--there are times I've become completely undone over some of those. I suppose it's because animals seem so innocent in a way, and domestic animals in particular are so dependent on humans to look after them and for their very lives, which we can take away at any time...damn, now I wish I was at home snuggling my kittycat. *sniff*

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous1:38 PM

Animals! They're so trusting and give their love unconditionally. They will never leave you over money or other materialistic things. You could be homeless and they would still love you loyally. And you can't beat the feeling of coming home to a dog so excited at your return. Even if it's only been 30 minutes since it last saw you.

  60. @Agent**It, my sister is staying with me and we found out last week, he had a girlfriend the whole time they were married. He went out on a date while she was dieing in the hospital. All her friends knew and she did too, but thought she could not tell me. Cause, I would have gotten him with my baseball bat. I have to be very nice to him to see the baby.

  61. @Hayley Gault: you astonishingly dumb "human" are one very good reason to prefer animals.

  62. Anonymous2:43 PM

The best part of my day is when I come home from work and the two pompoms completely lose their shit. "Mommy's home! Mommy's home! We missed you so much! You've been gone for days! We thought we'd never see you again! Pick us up! Let us kiss you! We have to run around in circles barking because we are SO DAMN EXCITED TO SEE YOU WE MAY PEE!" I feel sorry for anyone who has never experienced that.

Meanwhile, sometimes my boy cat, the momma's boy, will wander in while all of this is going on and be all, "Oh, hi. Were you gone? Well, nice to see you. Also, I barfed up a hairball on your bed. My sister hasn't opened her eyes in five hours. She may be dead. She's next to the hairball. Pardon me, I think I am going to hit the dogs in the face with my declawed paws and make them cry for no reason other than it's fun. For me, I mean."

It's a good thing the CDaN posse doesn't know where your son-in-law lives, because I'm pretty sure one of us has a baseball bat and we'd like to have a little talk with him as well. We're all so sorry for this extra layer of sorrow for you, and I hope this man has his come-to-Jesus moment soon

  65. Animals, no questions about it.

I distrust people who don't like animals too, I think there is something massively wrong with someone if they can't find love within a pet, be it a dog, cat, horse, lizard, rodent... I feel bad for those people and I just don't fundamentally understand them.

  67. Going back and reading the comments, I'm impressed and love this community even more with all the animal votes.

I think the main reason I chose animals over humans is because humans are so very disappointing. We have this enormous capacity for thought and reason and all of us know people who are lazy, rude or liars. We are so lucky to live in this time, in our place (I'm sure not many people here are from developing countries) and we all know people who totally take it all for granted.

There are also so many cases of incest, torture, rape, horrendous murders and genocide even within recent human history to really give humans the A-okay pass. And god, looking through history, it's even harder to understand why so many people act like assholes when we've seen so many cases of people being awful to other people -- but if you don't know history, you're doomed to repeat it and who really cherishes education anymore?

That all being said, the humans I love are in the same realm as the animals I love - they're all equal, so maybe I like humans and animals both the same?

    ReplyDelete
  68. No one will ever be as happy to see me (not even my kids, or a man) as my cats and my dogs. Those guys LOVE me, and I them.

//like clockwork, every morning I get up and hit the loo, here they all come. And I love how they act so nonchalant about it (especially my big old Black cat Sunny Day. *** in my state I had read that black animals are put down the most, hence why I adopted him. They are associated with witchcraft -reason #88769878 to choose animals again over humans ;)). But like clockwork, all my boy animals -always. The girl(s), save for the new kitten, she like to do her own thing, until I am working or trying to watch tv in bed then she'll sit on my lap, laptop, papers, or right on the upper part of my chest.

God, I love my pets. 3 are rescue (I got Sunny from the clink and boy does he show me his appreciation, daily -going on 7yrs now), 1 born in the house (the keep to herself cat, Maryjane), and 1 was given to me as a gift. My crew. They probably keep me alive more then I do them. Sincerely.

//sorry. I had to share. And HAMSTER PARTY, I think you put that nicely.

    Bless

  71. People, but there's nothing I love more than horses. Don't get me wrong, I like most animals, it's the holier-than-thou pet owners/animal lovers that annoy me. I respect your opinion, but don't go all Jehovah's Witness on me with the animal love. I wish I could go just one day on Facebook without seeing some post about "omgz save the pit bulls they r innocent". Not that I disagree, but enough already. We know.

And then there are the people who share food with their animals. Hey, he probably was just licking his nuts.

  72. Animals hands down no question.

  73. Ha Omama, that is the same reason I adopt black cats :) They seem to be on a higher level than the regular cat I have found.

Animal person, they rarely throw you curveballs and every day is pretty well Groundhog Day with pets.

  74. While I like animals I am better with people. I have a real affinity with children & while I can take care of myself, my life would be diminished without my husband, dad & friends.

@old;ady, I'm Australian so I would bring a cricket bat. Please stay strong, your grandchild needs you. Big hug from me to you.

  75. @Agent**It: It's actually a badly-reproduced picture of Big brother from Michael Radford's 1984. Sorry for the confusion, but what's the story with the car-hopping ghost, anyway?
Hayley Gault reminded me of the fact that some people just aren't animal people (my brother, for one.) I had a roommate who said, "People are nothing but the feet that bring the food," completely ignoring the obvious mental and emotional existence animals and pets have.

  77. Animals and the Earth. Every day that goes by I lose more and more faith in the human race. Most days I see them as nothing more than swinemonkeys chirping their opinions away like its gospel, trying desperately to amass followings around themselves to boost their piddlly little egos and playing out their vapid little dramas to keep themselves entertained.

Animals, you know where you stand with them....except cats. They're arrogant little fuckers but I love them anyway lol.
