Chef Who Cooked His Wife - Guilty Of Murder

The chef who told police that he had cooked his wife for four days was convicted yesterday of murder. David Viens wife disappeared three years ago. No one is really sure what happened to the body of his wife because it was never found. Police used a trick to get Viens to confess. They planted a story in the newspaper saying they had found his wife's blood in their home. He then told his girlfriend he had killed his wife and then ran out the door and tried to kill himself by jumping off an 80 foot cliff. Didn't work, although he does have a bunch of injuries. At one point he told the police he slow cooked his dead wife in a barrel in his restaurant for four days.

  7. Disgusting. Havent these people ever heard of divorce?

  8. You KNOW we're going to see this on Law and Order next season.

  9. Divorce is messy, obviously more so than dismembering and cooking your unwanted spouse.

  10. My husband's comment was I need not worry, that even though we have three CrockPots, those wouldn't be enough to hold even the rump roast part of me, much less the rest.

  11. I find it so hard to look at the face of victims and think about what they went through. This poor, poor woman. It makes me hope there is a heaven. And a hell.

Agreed that we need some happy stories today Enty! I want to laugh!! :-)

  12. @Anna, hahaha your husband sounds like a hoot! ;-P See, when I need a laugh, other CDAN readers always provide it!

  14. @Caitlin, I don't really think that's true. You can trust people. In 99.9% of sociopath cases like this one, there really are warning signs. I bet if you talked with people, they'd have all kinds of stories about bizarre behaviors on his part. But those of us who are not sociopathic will try to make sense of their behaviors, even excuse it, because we truly cannot comprehend how their sick minds work--or don't work.

That's the thing about sociopaths: people unlucky enough to be in their lives always have a LOT of stories to tell about them.

    1. You're right.
I mean, there had to be signs!
It's one thing to kill someone but to actually chop them up, UGH! And to actually COOK someone.. That takes so much time, effort, and to even have that thought process? Total psycho.

  16. Figgy, that sounds like personal experience talking. Did you make it out unscathed, but with lots of stories?

I feel bad looking at her picture too. There is a heaven. Don't worry about that :)

  17. There's an unwritten part to this story... How would the restaurant owner dispose of the cooked wife... Hope you didn't eat there 3 yrs ago, @ItsJustMe :0

I agree with @figgy, 99.99+ people are mainly good, we just hear all about the 0.01% in media.

I bet the Toronto Health Dept would pull a Green Pass notice for this.
Well, unless he followed sanitation procedures.

  18. Sorry to get graphic but didn't he use the same slow cooker to feed people at his restaurant? Rice with a hint of human flesh...ewww

  19. This guy was abusive, so there were signs. I'm not saying she had ANY contribution to her own death, but in the other articles I've read, he had been abusive with her over the years.

  21. Lalaay, IIRC he used a big barrel, not any kind of actual cooking pot. Basically, he cooked her down into a mush/rendered her down and disposed of her along w/the other kitchen waste, although supposedly he kept her skull. (As what, a friggin' souvenir? They still haven't found that yet, BTW.) So no, this isn't like Fried Green Tomatoes; the poor woman didn't end up as the BBQ lunch special, although what did happen is still horrifying.

    Poor woman :(

  23. Think of the kind of mind that could conceive of and actually following through with putting a human body in a pot and cooking it. It's beyond comprehension. This guy is psychotic.

  27. oops got cut off.

Pizza joint owner got into it with another guy, killed him, chopped him up and incinerated him in the pizza oven......flash forward 5 years and the police inadvertently release oven for public auction.

no one knows where it ended up.

Like Breaking Bad? Anyone else picturing Pinkman's bathtub falling through the ceiling right now?? LOL.

(I tend to laugh at inappropriate times. This appears to be one of them. Sorry.)

  29. @dia, yes, my ex-stepfather. Once upon a time he was a well-off, powerful man in town. My Mom left him 22 years ago. I just moved back here a couple of years ago, and I've lost count of the conversations I've had with people where they say "you won't believe what he did to me" and then they launch into some hilarious story. Yes, hilarious because during the brief periods when they aren't focusing on hurting others (which is not so funny) the stuff they do day to day is just so bizarre with all the purposeless compulsive lying that all you can do is laugh.

Oh and now his third wife left him and he's just an old man sitting alone in a big house, despised by everyone. Karma, baby.

  32. I live near this resturaunt, when she went missing the husband closed the resturaunt to redo the floors. They dug up the floors thinking that's where he buried the body. He boiled her for 4 days and threw her bones in the trash.
