Hugh Laurie Walks Out Of His Own Premiere

You know a movie is either going to suck or a celebrity has some kind of issue which will turn up in the tabloids later if you walk out of your own premiere. Many celebrities walk a red carpet and then never walk into the theatre or walk quickly through it and wait for the after party. But, if they do sit down, they usually stay. Hugh Laurie could not be bothered. At the premiere for his movie The Oranges, it started late because the red carpet line was taking longer than usual. So, Hugh got up and walked out. His reps said he was exhausted and others said that he was hungry and others said he had a prior commitment. So, yeah, they were all shocked and had no idea what to say.

  3. If I'm a producer who cuts a big check to star, I not only expect them to act in the project, I expect a reasonable amount of promotion.

On the surface, this seems like it will go away, but I think he'll gain a rep and even lose some roles...

  4. Of course this made the news! No one would have ever heard of the movie, but we did now! Maybe it's just me, but I've never heard of The Oranges...

  5. He's also had a pretty long history with depression and mental illness, so I don't know if that affects it. I know when I'm depressed sometimes I just can't be bothered, or wish I could just get up and leave work. Throw in the basic actor's ego and...

  6. Megan - Good point. I know when I'm stressed out or anxious about something, if plans for ANYTHING (even unrelated) don't go accordingly it can make me shut down.

Silly - and definitely to your point, I'd never heard of it either & now I have. Buzz, buzz, buzz...

  8. He has said before that he struggles with depression, maybe 'just' an anxiety attack? I don't anticipate reading about his(or anyones) personal issues if they are medically related. That seems kinda low. Just putting that out there.

  10. First Enty should do some research, It was not the Oranges premier, it was a special screening in NY. He did the press thing and redcarpet before and he just went out because he was exhausted. He had at the time the last days of his music world tour and was a day before in Toronto to promote his other movie Mr. Pip.

Firthermore the movie screened first last year in Toronto, where he has allready seen the movie, why should he watch it again.I don`t blame him for being stressed out. He is human adter all, he did what he was capable of.

  15. Read what Cindy said (above.) Enty is getting this from the Daily Mail which just invents drama where there is none. Apparently Laurie did hours of press that day and also has Mr Pip commitments. Look, he's in his 50s. I think he's allowed to take care of himself.

  16. In youth worshiping Hollywood, it's best to let everyone think you're an a* hole rather than admit it's your a* hole that's the problem. Hemorrhoids are painful while sitting. You have to get up and get outta there.
