Lance Armstrong Used Blood Transfusions To Hide Doping

Tyler Hamilton's book on Lance Armstrong was moved up several weeks from its original publication date to take advantage of all the Lance Armstrong news. The first shocker was released and Tyler, who is a former teammate of Lance says that Lance used blood transfusions to cover up his doping from agencies trying to catch him with a dirty test. No testing was allowed during the hours of 10p to 6 am so Lance would use that time to microdose at 10pm and the stuff would be out of their systems by 6am when testing was allowed with a nice long blood transfusion which would help flush all the illegal drugs out of the body, but still have done what they were intended to do which is help the body recover from racing.

  1. This is not a shocker - the transfusion thing has been thrown around for years. Absolutely nothing new about this "claim".

  2. Disgusting on a coupla levels. (I'm not sporty enough to be familiar with thus sort of thing!)

  3. Tyler Hamilton is an admitted liar. Through years of arbitration he claimed a chimera/"vanishing twin" was the cause of his positive test for blood tampering. Now he admits that was a lie. At this point it only behooves him to create the impression that everyone was doing it, so he doesn't look so bad.

I'm not saying that Lance didn't dope, all I'm saying is whatever to Tyler and his book. I'm sure his years of lying bankrupted him and he needs the money. This moral crusade he's on to out dopers is a joke. He has no credibility, IMO.

  4. I'm sure that the people who placed second and third also doped, but no one cares because they weren't #1.

  5. all this is soooo not new news, people have been talking about the gear that Lance and the rest of the team used for ages. *shrugs*

  6. I'm sure Lance wasn't the only one. A sad commentary on our times, if there is fame, money, or glory to be had people will lie, cheat, steal, or find some other way to debase themselves in the pursuit.

  7. Did you see the list of how many tour de France people have never been busted for drugs?

  8. For some reason it won't let me post the link! Argh! Google top finishers tainted by doping, it's a ny times piece and it's pretty much all of them

  9. Enty, your medical, drug 'expert' readers informed us of this transaction previously. It's a Global thing.

  14. Cmon, you know the rumors were around even when the "Livestrong" yellow bracelets were everywhere...but back then, ppl rabidly defended Armstrong, so yeah, this is news unless you follow cycling closely. Only now all his former defenders are just trying to save face, by saying this is old news.

  15. To me the most conclusive proof that Armstrong was doping was that he won 7 Tours de France beating a load of guys who were subsequently proven to be on drugs.

  16. I still don't believe it; I think it's just haters that are jealous and trying to discredit him and bring him down.

  17. I Call BS on this claim because one of the things they look for is "blood Doping" (auto transfusions.

I think Lance won because he is physiologically a freak of nature with huge lung capacity and heart capacity.

the invetigations are a witch hunt.

  18. I thought they were tested immediately after the races? So, this doesn't hold water for me. This Tyler dude has been talking BS for awhile now.

I'm just sick of all of this Armstrong crap. He won, it's over. They took his medals so just leave it be.

  19. @Hudson- there is no conclusive test that can prove blood doping.

  20. @ac- the athletes are required to give a sample prior to competition and then again after they win or place at each stage. Once the initial sample is taken they can effectively blood dope. By micro dosing at 10pm its no longer shows up in a test by 6am but is effective for about 24 hours. You have to be careful because if doses overlap then the athlete will easily test positive.

This. I'm not a Lance Armstrong fan, in fact, I think he's a douche, but this doping thing is over. Let it go.

  22. i call bs as well, there is hair testing and other methods that can test for drugs - they just don't go away with a transfusion.

    1. Blood doping is done to increase the white blood cells which increases performance and speeds up recovery time. Again, there is no effective testing for the yet. Supposedly, thee will be a test in the next 6-12 months.

  23. Did he ever have a positive test? How come out of all these guys that have been found out he's never been found out? Not defending him just wondering if he's been smarter, luckier or maybe he didn't do it? I don't know, don't know much about this sport to give an opinion but I really wish we didn't have to talk about it again, it's getting old

  24. Even if the allegations are true, the guy STILL won 7 races against other racers who were also allegedly doping.

Over it. He still won the races, medals or no medals.

  25. This blood stuff sounds unhealthy and strange. I seems like it would tax the body and show up in side effects or organ failures or something medical and odd. It's just not right.

  26. For those who wish to dismiss Hamilton's claims because of his past lying about his own doping, be aware that the accounts in his book have been verified and corroborated by nine other US Postal team members.

Hair follicle tests are almost never administered. Once in a blue moon, maybe. There are many tricks of the trade and Hamilton gives most of them away.

Surprise urine test? Put a powdered enzyme under you nails and drop it into the sample while urinating.

EPO in the system too long? Put it in the vein rather than under the skin and then follow that with a saline drip. This one was taught to Postal by Armstrong's personal "trainer/doctor" Michelle Ferrari.

Another Postal team member stated that the team was given early warning of numerous "surprise" drug tests while at the Tour.

  28. Honestly I'm on team I could care less. I think there has been a witch hunt for years against the one person who really made a name for the cycling world. Kind of ironic when you think about it. Did anyone really care that much about this sport before Lance Armstrong? He made it what it is today.

  29. In spite of whatever kind of person Lance Armstrong really is, I'd like to think a lot of people are alive today because of him. Cancer sucks.

  30. oh FFS! Lance Armstrong is NO miracle worker.

He's a fucking cheat, as many have given example to above.

I love all these people refusing to hear the truth, or better yet, EXCUSING IT. in what other sport would you hear "oh big deal they all do it!" and that's ok? LOL.

He was stripped of his wins, he did not win 7 TDF in anyone's eyes who isn't a fucking cycofan. Deal.
