Blind Item #1

This one is kind of sad to me. What quirky actress from a modest hit network comedy who has always been considered nice, was anything but nice this week. While filming her show in a public area people had gathered to watch the filming. Our actress called out to the crew and asked for everyone to be removed. When the crew member said it was a public area and that nothing could be done, our actress said, "We will just see about that," and turned around and stormed off. A few minutes later another crew member approached the crowd and asked them if they would be kind enough to leave because our actress didn't like having regular people watching her film. The group were told they could come back later and watch other filming and they would pass out free t-shirts and posters. "It is just _______ is really uptight, and not very friendly when it comes to people."

    Zooey?

  2. Sadly, I think this is Zooey, too. :/ Maybe she was having a rough week.

  3. First person I thought of too, Zooey.

  4. Well, "regular people" was literally the word she used? Or she can't get into the scene with spectators? I don't like divas all the time, but I can imagine a difficult situation making it hard to act a scene. The producers should take that into account for future shoots with that actress.

    1. Yes, we should all drop dead so theses idiots can film drivel. Love u, but disagree this time. Lol

    2. I agree with Fink. Unless she's a theatrically trained actor, doing it in front of a crowd is really tough. I speak from experience on both counts. There is nothing wrong with the 'regular people' being in a public place and watching, but yes the producers should make sure their actors are comfortable. That has nothing to do with 'regular people'.

    3. What about when they are onstage? C'mon, be real! And isnt she shooting a comedy? Anyhoo, mb she just had bad day. It happens.

  5. Zooey played at a small outdoor venue during SXSW in Austin a few years ago and she was VERY insistent that no one take any photos. Of course being the smartasses that we were, everyone snapped a photo.

  6. Yeah, this doesn't sound like that big of a deal to me. Whoever it is, I don't really blame her.

Has to be Zooey. Who else would be designated "quirky"?

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's it's not uncommon to close a set, even in a public area. Depending on the scene that was being filmed a closed set might have been the appropriate call. This BI is only bitchy if you read it that way.

  9. Zooey! Got one before I cheated and saw everyone else's answers! Whoot!

  11. oh no, not zooey :(

  12. Many actors & actresses have bad insecurities. 'Just' in a studio surrounded by pros is okay, but they freeze up otherwise. I'm not mad at this person, a big crowd would make it hard to concentrate. Acting isn't as easy as it looks, even mediocre acting.

Just out of curiosity, would people be as upset if say, Jon Hamm wanted his set closed? I'm just tired of women being labeled 'bitchy' because they want what they want, but with men it's no questions asked (more often).

  16. I don't know the details but I can't concentrate if there are noises around me. It breaks my concentration and them I snap at the person and they r like but I just shut the door sorry it was too loud! And I have to start my work all over again. I also have not chosen a career that requires an audience looking at me... I wonder if this is Zooey and her first sitcom right? she quits after 1 season bc it wa a test to see if she was over her phobia/ADD/I have no idea what u call this. Social anxiety?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry but I just don't see it. If you are a big girl now and can be the lead in a TV series you are a big enough girl to deal with a crowd in a public place. It's one thing if you have papparazzi chasing you around and harrassing you, but this isn't the case. If she doesn't have the chops to film in a public place there are tons of even more talented actresses that would step up to the bat and do it.

  18. I've never bought her contrived quirky shit. Oh my god she's got bangs and likes the smiths. BFD. I don't have a hard time believing for a second that she buys into her own hype.

  19. ;ibby while I somewhat agree with you re: acting in front of a crowd, I'd also remind you that in general acting is always done in front of a crowd - so many cast members, etc. And this actress' attitude was bitchy, if true about storming off, etc. And a good actor can concentrate anywhere.

Enty loves Zooey, or used to, so this is definitely her since he says it makes him sad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, katsm, that could be the problem.

For example---when I was young, before I had to work full-time, I did A LOT of school and Community Theatre with no problems. But those same years, I could never do public speaking in a classroom without flipping out inside, and sweating my ass off.
The difference is that a theatre audience is far away in the dark.
Zooey is accustomed to decent-budget films, that can close their sets. So trying a sitcom IS probably a mistake for her.

  21. Hey msgirl, we crossed, but my general reply to you can probably be gleaned from the reply to katsm, above ^^. Thanks.

  25. I really doubt it's Zooey.

I've see her show filmed down on Venice boardwalk and Zooey was nothing but nice during the very public taping of the scene. The crowd was right on top of the crew and cast and she was very cool, sweet and even engaged with the fans standing around.

That definitely doesn't match the actions of the actress listed in the blind item.

  27. agree with libby - I'm really tired of the double standards for men and women.

  28. I think some actors just like to be completely focused when working and that means no distractions. And maybe some people/fans can't stay quiet and yell at actors for autographs/pictures. So I'll give her a pass.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kristin Ritter? She's quirky and I'd call Don't Trust the B... a modest hit. New Girl strikes me as more of a straight out hit.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh man! Maddie beat me to it...New Girl is a big hit right? I was pleasantly surprised when Don't trust the B* in Apt. 23 got picked up for a second season. James Van Der Beek is effing hilarious in that show! Kristen Ritter definitely strikes me as quirky.

  31. FYI, after following the DMC, Zooey shows up about 1/3 the way down, filming in an LA zoo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Probably Zooey. Her onscreen persona can sometimes be friendly. I refuse to call her cute since she's 30 something. But have you ever heard any stories of fans approaching her at all???

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL. The link I posted is exact opposite of the BI in terms of pleasantness, and a random guy even asked her for her number.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would say that New Girl is more than a modest hit, though, no?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow. The DMC is getting quite blatant. They even call her quirky in the article.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I also want to add that some people with ADD or anxiety issues have a lot of trouble filtering out stimuli. Crowds, noise, etc, make it hard for them to concentrate or relax.

Not excusing the rudeness, just saying it happens.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't understand why this would make anyone sad. Was she raping a puppy and that's why she didn't want anyone watching? FFS, this is really not that bad compared to...ummmm....almost anything else in the blinds. Maybe she was having a bad day and didn't feel like being watched or being extra friendly.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I thought The New Girl wasn't on a network. Isn't it Fox or something like that?

@Laura, I looooove that you all took photos. I'd do the same thing!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Eris Hilton - Hahahahaha.

I obsessed over the post-Emmy coverage and there's a pic of Zooey kind of rolling her eyes w/ her hand on her hip. Someone asked her about it and she said Nicole Kidman had just arrived and she was essentially getting all the red carpet attention. It was my first inkling that maybe this raven haired hipster might have a case of the big heads...

    ReplyDelete
  40. zoey. on the set of new girl.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Whenever Zooey is mentioned, I think of a 2005ish EW article where she was very snarky with the interviewer. Took herself pretty seriously. On the other hand, I don't like people too much either, though I have the decency to cover that shizzle up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What about Martha Plimpton?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've always considered Zooey to be incredibly overrated and not all that interesting. This doesn't surprise me at all.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Okay, I'll bite: What is the DMC?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have a real problem with actors who don't want people watching them. If people stopped watching, you'd have no career. You are a performer, even if your medium is film. It's a sitcom. Not like she's filming the rape scene in The Accused and needed accommodations.

It's exciting for people to see something being filmed. Don't be an asshole. If the crowd were noisy I would understand but if they were just watching? Get over yourself. There are plenty of struggling actors who wouldn't mind a crowd watching them film a shitty ass show.

I would also think Jon Hamm was a dick if he cleared the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would say Zooey, but doesn't CDAN consider Fox an almost-network?

    If not Zoey, Kat Dennings.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mindy Kaling. She's considered quirky. Also her show had been picked up for a full season but it hasn't made a big splash yet.

  49. Benedict Cumberbatch spoke about filming Sherlock in public spaces. He & Martin (Freeman) would get through a street scene without any mistakes, & the Director (or 2nd in command) would tell them they had to reshoot because a superfan in the background was following the camera during a tracking shot, doing a bit of 'photo-bombing' which couldn't be edited / cropped out.

I can imagine where the actress in question would come to dread street scenes with public access. I'd cut anyone in a scripted show some slack. This is a gossip site, we don't know for certain anyone 'stormed off'.

Of course if Mr Cumberbatch had said "We'll just see about that", all would be forgiven because of *that voice* (& like Libby said, he's a guy)

  50. don't believe it's zooey...she dated a friend of mine...and could not have been nicer to his stepbrother...can't believe it. and no hang ups.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree, New Girl is one of the top comedies on TV right now--in no way is it a "modest" hit. I am going to go w/Krysten Ritter or I like Cancan's guess of Kat Dennings.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh i like Kristin Ritter (Bitch in APT 23) also thinking Mindy Kaling (Mindy Project) but obv. is the Zooey

    ReplyDelete
  53. Zooey performs on stage in front of big crowds with her band so I don't think the excuse that she's uncomfortable or uptight around people watching her film is believable.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I know Enty loves him some Zooey, but she just seems so contrived to me. Like she's in character all the time. From the hair to the dresses to her batting her fucking eyelashes in every pose -it just seem so, purposeful. Nice crew to cover for her, though. Hope none of the watchers have Neilsen boxes.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Since the BI says that this is someone usually considered nice, I'll go along w/Zooey, esp. since "quirky" is used so often to describe her that her picture ought to be next to the damn dictionary definition. (In all fairness, Krysten Ritter or Mindy Kaling might also qualify, but in the popular mind, Zooey="quirky".) Fox is a network at this point (it's the CW that's an "almost-network"), so that part holds true.

If it is Zooey, does anyone happen to know if her divorce from Ben Gibbard is final yet or not? It occurred to me that if it isn't, she might be dealing w/various kinds of legal crap, and that'll definitely ruin your mood and turn even the sweetest people sour. Or perhaps she's just having a bad day?...even celebrities have those, you know. Since this does seem to be something of a one-off, I'll give whomever this is the benefit of the doubt, unless it turns into an ongoing issue.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree with all the folks who think actors need to just get over it. I mean they're being paid exorbitant salaries to play make believe. Deal with the crowds. Sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Robin, I think Enty still considers Fox & CW as "almost networks". Hence my confusion over all the Zooey guesses, but I wasn't positive where her show airs.

    ReplyDelete
  58. i agree with those that a) say it's zooey and b) think she isn't necessarily asking for the crowd to be removed in a mean way. i've been around filming situations where it is hard for everyone to concentrate with alot of eyes on them. if that's the case then this story may have just been retold in a way that makes it sound harsh when the original intent wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Doubt it's Zooey. I work in the building where The New Girl's loft is supposed to be. When the crew is here to film exteriors for the show there's always a bunch of people hanging out the windows and on the street curbs there's not much effort to shield her from view, and she doesn't seem to have much of a problem with it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I was thinking Tina Fey for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Doesn't Fox get better ratings than all the other networks? No way it's an Almost Network.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ^Vivster, that's who I thought of too!
I love The Zooey as well, and am glad to read all the nice stories people have of her.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The Zooey was my first thought. It must take a lot of energy to appear to be perky all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Could def be zooey... enty seems to find her endearing based on past comments/posts about her so I can see why this one would make him "kind of sad".

    ReplyDelete
  65. Zooey the Troll. I just want to know what kind of losers watch that show.

    ReplyDelete
  66. agree with libby - I'm really tired of the double standards for men and women.

This never gets old. What a joke. Tell me that when you're tasked with doing 70% of the work and are never allowed to complain.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Little late to the party, but what about Busy Phillips. She is definitely quirky, always seems very friendly and Cougar Town is a modest hit.

I never get a very friendly vibe from the Zooey, just annoying hipster.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @ Ingrid Superstar - what I learned in a media class in business school is that only CBS, NBC and ABC are considered full networks by the FCC because they are the only ones that program new (non-syndicated, nonlocal) shows from 8:00-11:00 p.m. seven days a week. Fox only goes til 10.

    ReplyDelete
  69. What about Laura Dern filming Enlightened ? I always think of Laura as being quirky but maybe that's just me

    ReplyDelete
  70. The DMC has taken so much fun out of this. Booooooooooooo!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Why do you always name recent comedies?

Tina Fey (30 Rock), Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation) and Christina Applegate (Up All Night) are all quirky actresses from modest hit network comedies.

Fey has to run the final season of a show, Poehler has just divorced and Applegate faces cancellation.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No idea who it is, but out of curiosity, what would they have done if someone just said "no" and refused to leave? It was a public place.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I was there it was Zoey. She has this thing about people looking at her.

    ReplyDelete
  74. don't go to disneyland and complain about crowds. she depends on the public liking her to get jobs. she gets paid a lot to do her job. and then she looks down on her fan base? sounds like a bitch. stuff like this bothers me. unless ita a nude scene, or something that's emotinally difficult, that is stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Add me to the "agree with Libby" crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I find her annoying especially since that stupid iPhone commercial in which she doesn't want to go in the rain. It would have made sense to order Chinese or a pizza but she had to order tomato soup because, like, she's a vegetarian.

  79. What about Krystin Ritter? She's quirky, too.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Kristen Ritter was in the photos today and she was who I thought when I read the BI. I agree with some others that New Girl is considered a hit on Fox while Don't Trust B was a modest success and barely was renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  81. You leave my Zooey alone! I'm going to guess Kristen Ritter and Kat Dennings, just to take some of the heat off her, even though I also adore both of them. Spread the speculation around people.

  82. Yeah, but this was in Daily Mail today...

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2218335/New-Girl-star-Zooey-Deschanel-films-Los-Angeles-animal-park.html

When you attend a zoo usually all eyes are on the animals.

But that was certainly not the case in Los Angeles on Monday, as Zooey Deschanel turned up to record scenes for the Fox show New Girl.

The studiously quirky star seemed in a jolly mood as she made her way around the popular tourist attraction.

One cheeky fan even stopped her as she pranced around the Los Angeles Zoo and had a brief chat with the 32-year-old.

The singer and actress looked in fine figure as she marched around in a colour-coordinated red dress, cardigan and shoes.

Fans of the hit show will no doubt be excited to see her recording another episode of the popular programme.

And while the reason she was there is unknown, it seems certain it was not because her character Jess Day has finally found a boyfriend.
