Blind Item #4

This foreign born A list model was at an event recently. She has dated some big names in the past and is one of those rare models who people know the name of. Anyway, at this event she was approached by a handler for an A+ list R&B singer. The handler said that _______ would love for the model to come sit next to him and have a drink. The model said, "Sorry, but I don't like being around black people very much and there is no way I would date one or have people think I date one. So, thanks, but no thanks," and walked away.

  9. Bar Rafeili was at the Angel Ball 2012 (hosted by Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation) held at Cipriani Wall Street on Monday (October 22) in New York City. So that might be the "event". Russell Simmons was there.

Ahahaha, I had to delete my previous post because it sounded racist, but I think that its Bar. She isn't from America where we all think racism is NO BUENO. She is from Israel, where racism is more socially acceptable.

    1. What are you basing that assumption on? Having been to Israel, where there are in fact black people as well as Chinese people, Muslims, Christians, etc, etc, I can tell you that racism is not socially acceptable. Actually my husband lived there for a year, his best friend was a black guy of Brazillian descent from New York who's been living in Israel for over 10 years, and he said Israeli women LOVE this guy.
Also, where in the US is racism "No Bueno"? That black kid in Florida who was shot for wearing a hoodie might disagree with you, as might the hundreds of white supremacy organizations which still exist. America has made a culture of joking about Asians that can't drive, Muslims who MUST be terrorists, and subjecting black people to a never ending cycle of poverty. Israel will grant refuge to absolutely any person of any creed or color, so long as you understand that your children will join the army one day. Don't even try to claim that Israel is more racist than 'Murica.

I'm not saying that this isn't Bar Rafaeli, because I think it is, but that's because she's a bitch, not because she's Israeli.

Oh, and the reason your first comment sounded racist is probably because you're a little bit racist.

  17. @la pendeja I think she just meant that in other countries racism isn't as taboo as it is here.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bullshit. In most other countries they're was never any segregation between whites and blacks to begin with (South Africa not included). The reason racism is "less taboo" is because their citizens don't have that mind-set at all. Interracial relationships are waaaaaaay more common in most European countries than America.
GAWD I'm glad to be Canadian. My aunt from North Carolina (who is otherwise a lovely person) once asked if "y'all have black people up in Canada?" to which I had to inform her that yes, we do, but we just call them people. We don't actually make much of a distinction.

  18. Naomi Campbell? Has she ever dated a black man? I could totally see her being "too good" for a certain race, even if it is her own.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I also don't buy this. Anyone who has spent any time in the US knows that open racism (regardless of your own skin color) marks you as a loser in life. Subdued and institutional racism is still socially acceptable, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  20. this is funny as hell bc I can just picture a little snot saying such things. AAAAND, everyone needs to calm down.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Other countries aren't as "politically correct" as ours, so I can totally see someone saying this without a second thought.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was going to say Naomi Campbell, too, just because she hates everyone, LOL. I think it's Bar because I can't remember the other SA model's name - the one people go nuts over (not Bundchen).

  23. Oops, I think Bar is Israeli, right?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bar whatever. THE best guess

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bar is Israeli. I actually like the Naomi guess better, she thinks that since she's black herself she can away with it?

    Apartheid = racism.

    1. You are slightly confused. Israel's treatment of Arab's has been compared to South African apartheid by groups in the Middle East, that does not make them guilty of the crime of apartheid. The reason that Jews-only settlements exist is because Palestinians and Israelis will often kill the shit out of each other when in close proximity to one another. Palestinians regularly bomb private family events such as weddings and bar mitzvahs, sometimes annhialating entire families. Israeli soldiers will shoot Palestining civilians who are throwing rocks at them. Yes there is a separation of those two groups but it isn't because they hate each other's skin color, it's because both Muslims and Jews lay religious claim to the same piece of land.

This does not surprise me one bit, I have had my fair share of self entitled celebrities who are very free with their opinions of other races, sexes, etc. Therefore I can believe this.

    ReplyDelete
  48. {azatively - First of all I am proudly Jewish, not religious but a definite MOT, and if you look at the Orthodox especially in Israel, they are positively racist. I've met my share here as well, and my former bf from hs is now Orthodox, they are extremely insular, even against reform Jews. They watch no TV because they don't want their kids to even get a notion that it's possible to marry a non-Orthodox Jew, let alone another race. I'm also not pinning all of them, for awhile my cousin was and she is extremely liberal, they were just following the religion itself for awhile. It does depend on the sect.

ANYONE who is a rabid fundamentalist in a any religion is somewhat racist. Why the search for Obama's birth certificate anyway?

Sorry, I'm getting aggrieved, so I'll stop now.

  51. Just because someone is from a minority group does not mean they are racist. Due to some communities being insular they would be less accepting of outsiders as the outsiders are of them.

And I totally buy Naomi Campbell for this. She's just mean.

  52. @Lauren. You must be delusional if you think racism is more 'accepted' in Israel. That has to be the most ignorant statement I've ever heard.

  58. I don't know what Muslin has ever done to the Jews and I'm sure Jews in the fashion industry have used it when draping garments. So I definitely doub Israeli's have a problem with Muslins!

And whether they have a problem with actual people who might be of the Muslim faith, I don't know. But being that practicing Islam isn't designated to one race specifically, I think it might be a bit difficult to be racist against them either. Kind of like being racists against Christians.

And really Naomi Campbell. Come on people, not only has she dated Black men, but you mean to tell me you've never seen her at a party with Puffy, Jay Z or Kanye West in a photo? Ever? Or maybe they stopped being Black and I haven't gotten the call yet that they left the race!

As someone who lives in a very diverse place I have heard this or some version like this come out of the mouths of the most liberal I voted for Obama I can't possibly be racists folks.

  64. I live in one of the poorest counties in Pennsylvania. Racism in both whites and blacks (mostly here are non hispanic) honstly seem kinda equal. I know that will not be a popular comment, but it surely isn't meant that way. I grew up poor, but I never even as a kid understood the reason others didn't like someone because of their skin. Sounds naive now, but honestly, my thoughts as a kid. Still feel that way.

What has been interesting is socioeconomic gaps in the area I live in (lived all my life so no significant other points of comparison). I've stated before I'm a MH professional, worked my ass off thru undergrad and grad, and let me tell you, some of the stuff I hear coworkers say sometimes is disgusting (about individuals we see). I won't even make examples here because it just gets me pissed. I do know that despite the high divorce rate with coworkers, (I'm divorce so no judgement there) but I'm the only single mother. And I'm "pitied". I had to laugh when I heard that. It pays to have your office right next to the copy machine. LOL.

Just from my own experience only, though, this area in recent times is MUCH more accepting of LGBT lifestyles. I think it's a major coup.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I like the Naomi Campbell guess. She is a class A b*tch and was supermodel.

  66. I want to live in this color blind planet too.

That being said, racism is everywhere. No country is more or less racist than the other ones. I've heard all kinds of people of every hue make the most racist remarks - out loud for God and the world to hear.

As far as this blind goes, I agree that it could be anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @ Principessa: I beg to vastly differ from your rainbow vision of Israel.

I don t want to turn personal. Nevertheless, I will briefly expose my view: Israel carved itself to become a state in very aggressive circumstances towards the local Palestinian and Christian populations less than a century ago.
It is still mainly a very aggressive country in its military presence, masterfully playing victim in front of the world s media.
Btw, this does not mean I hold Palestinians for little angels. AT ALL. But they don t spend billions every year to have professional spinning their fake excuses to the rest of the world. I deeply dislike this dishonesty.
Same thing for colons, used as pretexts to say they must keep military presence in the zones they decide to occupy, basically annexing these zones (that should belong to a Palestinian state) to the Israeli territory. These operations have been going on for years, have never stopped, and have allowed to "annex" most of the land with water access. Little by little, incessantly.

It s still not the place for such a discussion but the enthusiasm you showed for Israel on 4 paragraphs really tickled me the wrong way.

Let people out of Gaza, there are 1.5 million people locked up in refugee camps over there living like in horrible conditions. They re not all terrorists.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @babo you ignorant twat

  70. For those of you who think that overt racism doesn't happen in the US, you should spend some time in the deep south. I moved to Alabama from Maryland over a year ago and the hatred that comes out of people's mouths still astonishes me. And it definitely goes both ways (i.e. whites hating blacks as equally as blacks hate whites). Now it's not everyone of course, and I've met some wonderful people here, but racist language and feelings just seem to flow much more freely down here than they did where I'm from.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You guys, this is NOT Naomi Campbell. She dated Seal. She dated Usher for a long time. I'm pretty sure she was dating a black (black and something) male model for a while. She may be a bitch but she doesn't hate other black people.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Just throwing a random one into the mix but what about Kate upton? I figure people would know her name because of SI

    ReplyDelete
  73. @babo that's crap. Gazans are not "locked up", they move about freely in Gaza, their country, and can travel to Egypt which borders them. And they'd be able to travel by air and sea directly if they weren't shooting rockets at Israel constantly - like this and they've been averaging 3/day since 2001.

Most of Israel's Jewish population are descended from Jews ethnically cleansed from Arab/Muslim countries - JIMENA .

As far as the actual topic goes, there's nothing to indicate it's Bar. On the flip side, I very rarely see black female celebrities dating white guys - isn't that racist?

    ReplyDelete
  74. When I see A+list R&B singer, I automatically think Usher. I can't think of anyone else that fit that bill; even R Kelly would be A list. If this is indeed Usher (he's been out and about recently, no?) this cannot be Naomi Campbell, considering they dated years ago.
