Gnesa

I would like to thank Jane, a long time reader for bringing my attention to this video of Gnesa who is taking the internet by storm. I am not sure what is funnier. Her singing or the comments at YouTube. I will say one thing about Gnesa. She is no Rebecca Black.

  1. Good laugh for Friday!
She has a lot of confidence whether she is serious or not.

  2. My ear is bleeding ... because I hit my head on the table from laughing so hard. She was serious, I'm sure.

  4. And is it wrong that I want to blame Kim Kardashian for this crap?

  5. I cant' tell if she is serious OR if the commenters on YouTube are serious. I'm feeling like it's Freaky Friday here...

  6. Girl, I can't sing either, but at least I regulate my poor singing to the shower and car.

La La la la la LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  7. @JJ, I also blame Kim Kardashian for this... this whatever this is supposed to be.

  8. Some advice, Gnesa: In the shower, I'm Frank Sinatra. Everywhere else, I'm just me.

  9. The comments here are funnier than the Youtubers!

  10. The producer is getting fired bc he forgot to do auto tune before he released this!

I can't even tell what key she was supposed to be singing in or if they changed the music to match her key better but neither the vocals nor the music have anything to do with the other! Is she singing to a video game soundtrack?

  12. P.S. - I can't get past the freaky clown car melody. Which makes me convinced that an angry mob of carnies are behind this magnum opus.

  13. I'm all for a new meme called Blame Kardashian anytime we get a new trollop sleazing around, thinking she has talent.

  17. This is what happens when parents refuse to be honest with their children about their limitations.

  18. This is white rap. Somehow I feel that RHONJ are going to jump on this train.

  19. My cat was asleep on a nearby chair. While this was on she attacked my monitor. Now she's howling in another room. And she still sounds better than this.

  20. I saw this on Chelsey Lately last night. I cringed thru it for her. She keeps trying to find all those elusive notes without success and gyrating like she's having a seizure . I didn't think it possible, but she makes my singing seem like Mariah Carey in comparison.

  21. I didn't think anyone could be cheaper, have less class or taste, or be more tone deaf than Kim Kardashian, but apparently I was wrong.

This is a symphony of cluelessness and hilarity.

  23. And of course, she'll become famous and laugh the entire way to her fifteen minute fame bank. She'd make even Andy Warhol throw up. Our society has become the shallowest, most crass piece of stupidity ever. This must have been how it was like right before Rome fell.

  24. Parents, please, tell your children NOOOOOOOO!

  26. Wow that is some terrible singing. And those close ups of her face! Ugh! I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing. And what's with the YouTube comments?! There were like 2 bad comments out of the last 50! Oh no...the la la la la la bit is already stuck in my head!

  28. SWEET JESUS!! Wow.

Well .. at least my thanks go out to the kind soul recording engineer who tried his or her best to save the world from this shanda! Your efforts are appreciated!! If only the director would have only convinced this broad to work in the dark.

Yikes. I think I have been scarred .. scarred for life!

  31. Basically, this is another rich person taking a dump on us through the sewer system that is Reality TV and the darkest dungeons of the YouTubes. It's time to dust off the guillotines people.

  32. oh...dear...lord.

While i was listening to this, my cat stopped whatever she was doing and stared at me. Then she bolted to hide downstairs.

I think that says it all really..

  33. oh my god the comments!! LOL! I hope she's doing this just as a joke bc that would be HILARIOUS. like a social commentary on today's pop culture LOL!

  34. Well no one will accuse her of hiding behind AutoTune. This is probably what Rhianna sounds like without the "fixing."

  35. The YouTube comments are universally hilarious. Unfortunately the poor girl probably is taking them seriously:

Maybe once in every generation there comes an artist who is perfectly in tune with the zeitgeist, whos words seem to be able to reflect a certain feeling, an unexpressable thought within the minds of the masses. Gnesa is that artist. When she sings lalalalala it seems like someone has held a mirror to my mind and shown me my innermost thoughts. We are lucky my friends, to live in this time. It's as if every musical moment in history has rushed together to create this. The singularity of songs.

My husband's reaction sums it up perfectly, I think:

"This is the musical version of 'let them eat cake.'"
