Ariel Winter Wants To Divorce Her Parents

It has been a long time since a celebrity kid wanted to divorce their parents. Usually it is for reasons other than not getting along, like being able to transfer school districts and play sports, but in 14 year old Ariel Winter's case it is because she is mad at them for trying to stop her from dating her 17 year old boyfriend. Good for them. Can you imagine if every kid tried to divorce their parents because their parents put their foot down and told their kids who they can and cannot date? No kids alive would ever have parents. I think it is great that Ariel's parents are not falling into letting the Hollywood kid get whatever she wants. Look at how Lindsay Lohan turned out. Yeah, now look at how Emma Watson turned out with her very strict parents. I think I will have to go with Ariel's parents on this one. They let her star in Modern Family and according to The Enquirer, Ariel is living with her unemployed actress sister Shanelle Workman who used to be on One Life To Live. That sounds like enough freedom right there.

  1. I love Modern Family, I thought Ariel was looking a little mature for her age lately. Her clothing choices have been very risqué for 14-15.
I am the mother to a 16 year old girl, and she knows that she isn't dating a boy 18 or older, even if he is barely 18. Why? BECAUSE I CAN.

  2. Couldn't Cam and Mitch just adopt her?

All kidding aside, I have nothing but respect for her parents.

  3. so sad. she's one of those 14 year olds who has an older boyfriend and actually believes he loves her. just wait and see honey, just wait and see.

  4. I always told my oldest daughter she was welcome to move out once she was done with high school and if she wasn't going to college, she had to work and pay rent to live at home (a nominal amount). Once she saw how hard that was she didn't leave until she was 21 and decided that college really was a good idea. Suck it up, Ariel. And good for her parents!

  5. If buddy really *loves her* he will respect the wishes of her parents, wait until she is older, and not make life more difficult for her.

  6. I wish you could shake them and make them realize they have SO much time to grow up!

  7. Amber, you are SO right! I remember being 14 and thinking I knew it all, but in hindsight, I was a PITA! Ariel, your parents are right and you're behaving like a spoiled brat.

  8. @curly - I'm STILL figuring things out on a daily basis. As I've gotten older, it seems I go to my mom for help/insight/advice MORE. lol

  9. @Tuxedo Cat is totally right. If he really (and I mean really, not in the 'oh, yea, totally' kind of way) cared for her, he'd respect her parents wishes and understand that they ARE young and they have a lot time to figure things out. I hope it's not a case of 'the Lohan' or whatever (I'm a celeb, therefore I can do whatever I want). Girl should shut her mouth and stay put. Her parents will be there for her when they break up, too.

  10. Move her back home and take her off the TV show.

  11. now all of her questionable clothing choices make sense! She lives with her sister. A parent would never 'ok' those low cut dresses, it was ridiculous.

  12. Omg she's only 14? I assumed she was a lot older playing someone young a la Sarah Hyland. This kind of stuff happens all the time in high school with freshmans and seniors though.

  13. What a moron. In the teens, that much of an age gap is bad. 17 year old boys looking at 14 years olds only want to screw them; they certainly don't "love them."

Most teens are smart enough to realize this.

  14. @Amber - I find it funny how my mother was SO stupid when I was a teenager, and then got SO smart when I was in my late twenties.

She gets smarter and smarter every freakin' day!

  15. @lakeuniongirl - our mothers must have been related - she said the same thing to me.

  16. @lakuniongirl: My mother did make me and my sister move out. Luckily we survived just fine but I respect her enormously for doing that.
At 14 everything is the end of the world. Good for her parents for putting the kabosh on the "divorce" although I suspect she will seek emancipation when she's 16.

  17. I think she is a skank. Not in a mean way, just based on the outfits she wears out to events and around town. She seems very mature and confident with her body and I can see her being a little more promiscuous than other 14 year old girls.

  18. Holy shit balls! Her brother is the kid that played Pugsley in the Addams Family movies!

  19. Her parents have a child star franchise.

  20. Listen to ur parents, missy!!!!

  21. Hopefully no judge would rule in Ariel's favor but looking back at how judges have ruled in in the LiLo cases... not feeling very confident right now.

  22. 3 years is not a big deal, IF YOURE OVER 18! Sheesh! What 17 year year old male wants to be with a 14 year old?!
And what does this say about her??
    Sad.
    Disgusting.
    He's transparent.

  23. FYI...TMZ is reporting that it's more serious than this. Physical and emotional abuse and that she's already been removed from the home. Her older sister was removed from the mother, put in foster care, and never went back to the mom. Sadly, I don't think this is just about dating.

  24. Wow Enty, way to be a shit stirrer on this one. This is serious.

    1. To be fair, Enty reported it the way it was reported earlier in the day. The TMZ info is new/updated. Why are so many so quick to attack Enty?

  25. See that tmz story is another reason I read blind items/gossip and take it all with a grain of salt because it is never the complete story about a situation. It all comes from someone's point of view.

  26. Firstly, 17 year old and 14 year old - gross.

Secondly, her clothing choices have made this story a little less surprising. Just be 14!

    Thirdly, WHAT?! Pugsley?! That's amazing!!!

  27. Time to update this, based on an investigation she had been removed from the home and placed with her sister because her mother was abusing her. Oh and the sister was removed from the house 20 years ago by protective services because surprise, mom was abusing her.

Nothing like completely jumping to conclusions Enty.

  28. @Kendra, be prepared to get jumped on. I said basically the same thing and got jumped on. Seriously though, if there was a story behind this, a SERIOUS story, maybe that should have been considered before we all went the whole 'listen to your parents' thing on this poor girl.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I didn't jump on you, Silly Girl. Just saying that I heard the same thing Enty did. In this case, I don't think he's a shit stirrer.

  30. @Green Wave, thanks for the response. I'm having a shitty day of people being assholes. It's the norm some days in my industry and today's a big day for it. Maybe it's PMS, too, but it sucks. I think it's coming out in my posts. I'm trying to divert away from that mess and spend a little time in fantasyland where what I think actually matters. ;)

  31. Came to post the same thing about it being more serious. To be fair, even TMZ acknowledges the story about it being only about dating, and how it's been proven false

    ReplyDelete
  32. Below is a link to Gawker reporting that TMZ saying the dating story is false and the real story is the abuse. IMHO, this deserves at least an update...soon...and probably a little reflection all around on shooting first and asking questions later. It also seems to me to touch on the slut shaming issue that arises here fairly often, although the age issue muddles that a bit for me.

  34. If anyone saw my last post (which I just deleted) HUGE brainfart....long day...stupidity setting in....humbly yours

    ReplyDelete
  35. I came here to write exactly what you all did, hopefully we remember that she is 14! Before we are too hard on her about any of this.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So we shouldn't blame for the blatant copy-and-paste job based on other published sources? Isn't he a Hollywood insider that makes page hits out of similar stories of abuse? And I don't see any mention of a father, so "divorcing her parents" was just to create an illusion of a nuclear family?

    ReplyDelete
  37. It could be a combination of two stories. You can have a kid (kids) who are wild with a heavy handed parent (or one parent who is trying to reign the kids in while the other plays dead). In the end, you never know what the family dynamics really are.

    ReplyDelete
  38. And it appears now that she was living with her sister since early October.

That's such a huge step to divorce your parents, there has to be a deep hurt and abuse history,and/or major greed going on that would cause anyone to start this kind of proceeding against their parents. You'd have to REALLY hate them to do this.
