Dolly Parton Is Not Gay

Dolly Parton was on Nightline and would like you to know once and for all that she is not gay and says her best friend is just like Oprah's best friend Gayle King and that Dolly and Oprah laugh about people think they are both gay because of their best friends. Something that is true Dolly Parton is that she entered a drag queen Dolly Parton look-a-like contest and lost. No one knew they had the real Dolly in the contest. I love Dolly Parton.

  1. Gay, straight, who cares? It's Dolly!!!

  2. The drag story is hilarious!

  3. Every couple of years, Dolly comes out with the "I'm not gay" protest. She must be promoting something. No one cares Dolly.

  4. I'd never heard the rumor that she was gay.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I've also never heard the gay rumor. Who's her BFF?

  6. That rumor has been around for years. The thing is, with so many openly GLB stars now accepted by the public, you have to take a second look and give them the benefit of the doubt. The backlash they could suffer if they continued to deny being gay could really hurt their reputations.

  7. lOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dolly, and I don't even listen to country. In the next few years, I will most definitely be making a pilgrimage to Dollywood. She's SO adorbs.

  8. If she was gay, I think she would have revealed it by now. She doesn't strike as someone able to live a lie.

  9. I love Dolly and don't care if she's gay, straight or is a nun. She is the best.

Oprah on the other hand is gay but doesn't think she is. In heavy denial. But again, who cares?

  10. Dolly & I have a common ancestor. The only celebrity relation I've seen the paperwork on.

I LOVE Dolly too, but I do think she's gay. Maybe asexual. Whatever she is, she keeps her 'Dolly Parton' persona so consistent and fun and inoffensive to anyone. Amazing how the gay thing is the only real dirt anybody ever 'had' on her---she must be super-nice IRL to staff, etc, for there to be NO stories, especially no diva or negative press.
I would love to smoke a fattie with the real Dolly. I'll bet she's got the BEST stories. Those old country music guys were WILD.

  11. Dolly for President! Amber, check this one out: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=17NoKYcpADI&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D17NoKYcpADI

I'm crazy about Dolly Parton - she can do no wrong.

  12. lol!! @ Dolly losing that contest! I, too, love Dolly~she's always been extremely likeable.

For years, people assumed my best friend and I were/are lovers. lol I'm bi, she's not and we never did. We're soulmates without the sex.

  13. I think she's asexual. But who cares? She's never had a reputation for being anything but nice and is well spoken of by everyone who's ever met her. That includes my Mom, who is a dental assistant and helped on a procedure for Dolly once (in Chicago). She said she was, as you'd expect, sweet and fun. And *tiny*.

  14. Oh, I had the same thing with my BFF--everyone thought we were gay. We spent so much time together, went on vacations, talked on the phone many times a day. But no. In fact we used to say "ooooh, if only you had a penis..." ;-P Her family especially thought we HAD to be gay as neither of us ever even dated for years. And we both wore Birkenstocks, haha. But shazam, in our late 40s we both got in relationships, you never know.

I think the gay/lesbian thing comes up every few years, mostly because I think she's an icon in the drag world. She seems sweet and funny.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Figgy...yep on the Birkenstocks! lol And, the "if only you had a dick!"

  17. Her one-liners put her in competition with the best of the drag queens, and she probably could win with some of her zingers. "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap," for instance.

When I saw the great America novel MEN TO MATCH MY MOUNTAINS, I thought it was a Dolly Parton autobiography.

  18. I love Dolly and she absolutely has a girlfriend. I have several friends in Nashville who work & are well connected in the music business there. It's well known that she has had sexual/emotional relationships with women, regardless of what label she claims publicly or privately.

  19. The drag competition story is killing me!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The only rumor I heard about Dolly is that she has a bunch of hidden tattoos.

    ReplyDelete
  21. she is one of THE nicest people in country music... seriously. it's a well known fact, here in nashville, and i have friends and family that stand by it. no dirt there. she really is a genuinely sweet as she seems.

  22. @Frufra - Thank you! That's great. When I say I don't listen to country, it really has a caveat but I didn't want to bore anyone. I love old stuff i.e. Patsy Cline. Modern Country is unlistenable, to me. As for Dolly, I loooooooooooooooooooooooooove "Jolene". It's so intense!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh Amber, I love "Jolene"! I love me some Patsy Cline. Johnny Cash, too. The old-timers could really pull at your heart-strings. When I need to cry and can't, I listen to the old stuff. Works every time!

Amber...is that a picture of you? If so, you are some kind of gorgeous, girlie!

  24. "It's well known that she has had sexual/emotional relationships with women, regardless of what label she claims publicly or privately."

Well then, this is just sad. To be formally denying it in this day and age...yes, there is still so much hate and bigotry, but Dolly could come out and 80% of people would be accepting.

  25. Count me in among the Dolly fans. Like Amber, I plan on going to Dollywood, and if I ever met her, I would probably queen out completely. Gay or straight - she has always been able to keep her private life private. She is a fantastic songwriter and a great performer, and she is funny as hell.

"If I see something draggin', saggin' and baggin', I'll go get it nipped or tucked, whatever it takes. And I do the rest with paints and crayons!"

  26. The best rumour I've heard about her though (that I hope is true!) is that she has quite a lot of tattoos on her body - they are all in places which can be covered by clothes, but apparently, there are quite a few. In fact, wasn't that a blind here once?

  27. Ahhh I love me some Dolly. The best song she ever wrote is my namesake. :)

    LOVING HER ALWAYS.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think she's gay. Never did.
She's always said if she were gay she would be living out and proud, not giving a damn what anyone thinks.

    That's Dolly!

  30. plus i don't know any vagina that would let nails that long near it.

  33. Agree with all the Dolly love...she is awesome. Go to Dollywood, you will l-o-v-e it!

9 to 5 is one of my all-time fave movies. I just love her in that.

I don't care what her orientation is, but I would LOVE to know about these tattoos. Was there any truth to the Mr. Rogers rumor, or was that an old wive's tale?

  34. @Reeses - It is me! Thanks so much :) Photographers are good with all their photographing trickery ;)

  35. DOLLY!!! When I saw her live in August, I cried for the first 20 mins straight. No joke. She is amazing! She is magic.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kraymond, I adore your comment - I can so relate to that - I'd be there bawling right along with you.

    *OT tangent alert*

A friend was telling me about her friend in San Francisco, who lives a fabulous, lifestyles of the rich and famous life. Her hubby's boss flies all of them to Vegas every year for his birthday (investment banking - go figure). She says to me, "want to see who played the party this year?", then whips out her phone, and shows me a picture of SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY!! Can you imagine - a private Paul McCartney concert? I would have fainted when he walked out (it was a surprise to the party-goers), then, after I came to, would have just stood there crying like an idiot for the rest of the night. I can't even get my head around that whole sitch. And how much does THAT cost ? My guess is $1 million.

    ReplyDelete
  37. ^^^^ I'm totally jeal. I am not a country fan however, I caught a concert of her's on the telly once and couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I would state too that you are certainly on to something stating that she is "magic," as all I could think of whilst watching her was that she must be an angel.

I'm also not sure how anyone could ever assume she's into women. I thought the big boobs, etc were a dead give-away for her trying to be sexy for her longtime hubs.

  38. why can't a successful woman have a best friend for life? why does it mean she's a lesbian because she has the love and support of a lifelong friend?

That's so wrong. My bff and I have said many times if one of us were famous and rich we'd bring the other one along for the ride! Err...you know what i mean.

    ReplyDelete
  39. She said a few years ago that she and her friend have slept in the same bed together for years, decades, while Dolly's husband has slept in another room. Call it what you want ,Dolly, but I don't know any heterosexual women who do that. She' s riot and a talent regardless.

There were a lot of whispers too when she and Queen Latifah did a movie together since many folks know both are gay but have never confirmed it publicly.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I didn't know "Dolly is Gay" is a thing. Meh.

I love her! She is so talented, fabulous and one of a kind!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'll chime in on the Dolly love too! She's a great talent and a wonderful, funny, nice, and I think genuine person. Dollywood is a fun place.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Mr T, you're spot on - Dolly's as gay as Liberace singing 'Over the Rainbow' - and just as sweet and smart and hilarious. The first time I met her, back in the 80's, she'd snuck in to a show at PS 1 in the E Village, with Fran Lebowitz, after the lights had dimmed. They sat in the back row, cuddling and holding hands the entire time...it was really sweet. The second time I met her, was again in NYC, at a dinner downtown. I was the guest of my best guy friend who owned the restaurant - and we were the only women at a table full of the velvet mafia...high-powered, very connected, gay guys - and all of them her close friends.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm not a country music fan either, except for Patsy (who can not like Patsy?) but I've loved Dolly ever since I saw 9 to 5. She was ADORABLE in that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Gay or not, she's awesome. Also, as the bisexual British MP Simon Hughes knows to his cost, saying "I'm not gay" isn't the same as saying "I'm straight".

    ReplyDelete

@detown, If she and her friend are close like sisters, then they might sleep in the same bed. My sister and I still do if she's visiting without her husband. As for Dolly's husband sleeping in another room, maybe they have separate rooms for one reason or another.

    ReplyDelete
  46. WHO EFFIN CARES!!! It doesn't take away from her talent!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Had a chance to meet and chat with her about two years ago through my old job--she's TINY and even more warm and funny and kind than I could've imagined. I about died when she said my full name, and I don't get star struck.
Ended up hanging with part of her family for a meal afterward and heard a few funny stories about the Dolly they know. Made me love her more.
The woman has been married for 46 years and has been an active and vocal supporter of the gay community long before it was popular. She's earned the right to be whomever she feels like being.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I adore her, always have. I have always believed she is Gay.

  49. Dolly and Fran Liebowitz?

  51. There were also rumors that Dolly and Lily Tomlin became more than friends while filming 9 to 5.

  52. A little bit off-subject... TMZ got a video of her last month, and they asked her about Halloween:

"Oh, I love Halloween! I've got two pumpkins..."

    Ahahahahahahahah!!!

  53. @ B. Profane - I know! I was completely gobsmacked by that - but, it made a lot more sense, when I saw who her friends were at that dinner...

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Zeeky_Boogy_Doog lol, that sort of thing is why I like her.
