Guyana Stands Up To Chris Brown

Guyana wins the country of the day award. Women's rights groups in the country have been protesting everyday since Chris Brown was announced as the headliner for a December 26th show in the country. Because of their efforts, and the help of lawmakers, the promoter of the event says that Chris Brown has backed out. With the recent efforts in Sweden to show that Chris is not welcome there, it seems like people in countries are finally figuring out a way to stop helping a known and violent woman beater to make money off them. The more countries that do this, the more likely it is that Chris Brown will get some real help for his anger issues and not just blow it off because people are willing to keep spending money attending his shows and buying his songs and records.

  2. I actually had to look up where Guyana was but good for them & Sweden.

  3. It's always encouraging (or scary depending on the instance)to know that if people band together behind an issue there will be traction and momentum. Sometimes I feel so helpless because I am only one person. This reminds me that things can change for better or worse if enough people work together.

  5. If only America would get the same campaign going instead of sucking up to this douchebag and praising him on award shows, makes me sick.

  6. Well said @timebob. I can't believe he is parading around at award shows like if nothing ever happened.

I have no problem with anyone standing against Brown. I hope they're consistent with all abusive celebrities, not just Brown.

But I don't know how I feel about Rihanna's battered face being used. As much as I don't like her allowing Brown back into her life, this sort of feels like she's being victimized again.

    1. I thought the same thing. It seems more humilating for her. :/

    2. Yeah, the use of her picture just doesn't sit well with me.

  8. Good job Guyana!!

And this site doesn't usually post things like this, but Chris Brown actually HAS gotten counseling and does alot to give back. I neither love him nor hate him, but I do wish stories would be posted about some of the good he's done. He's incredibly stupid and a major jerk, but I definitely think he wants to change. Just my opinion. Here's an example:

  9. @S.Joy while I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing the link. I just can't get past the feeling that everything he has done is purely motivated by his desire to gain back the fame, admiration and money he lost. What he is lacking in, is public remorse and empathy for his actions. I just don't see it on a human level.

    1. @timebob You may be right about that... I'm not exactly sure if he has good motives. I just think it would be fair to post the bad AND good that he does. And I think most people feel that he has no remorse because they only read about one side of him. But I can definitely see your point, thx!

  10. Wasn't he required to get counseling? Beyond the Rhianna incident, he seems to continually show the public that he is the same petulant child. He clearly has anger issues. Giving money to a charity, or taking a few months worth of counseling, does not prove anything.

  11. High Five Guyana!!! I think this is awesome :)

    Well said @artemis! ITA!!!

  12. I have no opinion regarding Chris Brown. However, are these countries so vigilant about keeping other assorted losers from performing? There are a lot of abusive/addict/pedophile types in showbiz, as we all know. Seems kind of unfair to single out Chris Brown just because he's the most recent (albeit glaring) example of douchebaggery.

  14. Agreee with Lanya .

  15. Now for Charlie Sheen!

  16. @Cee Kay - well he was in the paper and he was convicted.. The paedophiles, violent ones, cheaters, etc are mostly blind items.. So I guess country cannot act on them.
Other countries act on these issues by not granting visas. I know Lily Allen was denied visa to the US because she had pending charges for attacking some paps. Japan has done this several times...

  17. Agreed with Lanya...every time that picture of Rihanna is shown, how does she feel? It's like reopening the wound over and over. No victim of DV wants to be reminded continually of their past abuse as they move on. I know bc I'm a survivor.

    1. Well i think she NEEDS to see it, so she can stop making excuses for her continuing friendship with this abuser!

  18. I am sorry to hear, ac. I hope your days are now happy and serene.
I would normally agree with you, but considering Ryhanna went back to the brute and is now in a love triangle with him, I do not care as much...

  19. don't feel sorry for Rhianna, she really doesn't give a fuck what you think or feel for her. Good or bad.

    She's unapologetic, remember?

Not to be callous, but maybe she needs the reminder.

  20. As a few people here have pointed out, there are scads of celebrities who have been involved with domestic violence, rape, child abuse, and a host of other crimes. Yet, they aren't being dragged through the mud like Chris Brown is. I'm not supporting his violent assault nor do I condone his foolish behavior, but he has plenty of other celebrity offenders who should be treated in this manner as well...since apparently he doesn't get the same pass privileges as other performers, celebrities or a-list movie stars.

  21. I wonder when Charlie Sheen reads things about folks boycotting Chris, does he get on his knees and thank God for being white?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sad but it's true that white celebrities get a pass for their deplorable behavior while black celebrities will never be forgiven. Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Tommy Lee get rewarded for their bad behavior but Chris Brown, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson are labeled as monsters before they even get a chance to do better. Smh

  22. Chris and his ex Karrueche actually did tons for charities regarding children and domestic violence victims. He doesn't publicize all of these efforts bc it is a personal decision for him to give back and become a better person. Also I'm sure all u CDaners know that Rihanna was the violent catalyst in their relationship since they began dating in 2006. This doesn't mean Chris had ANY right to put his hands on a woman but do u really think a young guy that witnessed his mother be abused at the hands of a man would assault his gf with no provocation? I'm just saying consider the situation from another perspective before completely writing him off.

  24. Give me a break, Jas. He beat the shit out of her. It doesn't matter what provoked him. He should mess with people his own size. I really can't picture Rhianna regularly beating him since 2006. I also can't picture this POS taking her abuse for that long, not with his anger issues. Way to blame the victim.

    1. Rihanna isn't a pushover. She admitted in an early interview that she used to beat up her younger siblings as a child.

  25. Also, Jas, my mother's ex boyfriend watched his mother abused by his father. Guess what happened? He turned into an abuser. I watched as he beat my mother numerous times. I remember the worst beating, where he bashed her head into a table, was after she didn't tell him about a dentist appointment. Is that the kind of provocation you are talking about? Give me a fucking break.

  26. What Jax said.

And I think that the reason some stars get a pass and Chris doesn't is because, unfortunately, the public isn't nearly as horrified when they "just" read a story about abuse; Rhianna's picture was everywhere. There was public, photographic evidence of what he did to her. There is nothing that can be said or written that has quite the same impact as pictures. I think it is those pictures that continue to horrify people (rightfully so). It is why they used her picture in those ads...a picture is worth a thousand words after all.

  27. Quite hostile aren't we? I have been a victim of dv myself and after attending various counseling sessions have realized there is a large number of male victims that deal with dv as well. I haven't supported cb since his assault charge bc I don't condone his actions but I recognize males can be victims too and it's unfair that women aren't held responsible for the violence they inflict on their partners. Please calm down and re-read my post. I found out a few years ago that being narrow minded gets you nowhere :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not hostile at all. Also not into putting the blame on the victim. : )

    1. Oh, but there's where you're wrong...I never placed blame on the victim. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and just like Chris is to blame for beating Rihanna, Rihanna is to blame for beating Chris. BOTH of these people are violent and crazy as an unfortunate result of their upbringings and BOTH of them should get help for their problems rather than seeking solace within each other. Their relationship was volatile and dangerous from the beginning on both of their parts.

    1. I saw him on Leno earlier this year.He has a fanbase.

Think about Brolin. His wife,Diane Lane, called 911 and he was arrested for DV.The incident was considered a private matter,I guess because his mother-in-law was feminist icon in her own right,Barbara Striesand.

Funny thing, when Sean Penn who's admitted to twisting a couple of wrists including Madonna's,was giving his Oscar acceptance speech for Milk.He gave a shout out to Brolin.I'm thinking 2 white boys with DV issues being honored AND no one said anything. No boycotts, letter campaigns, etc.

  30. Not a fan of either but JasCrocks, I know what you are saying. My dad hit my mother but my mother was unbelievable and provoked him every time. I know some of you will get on your high horses and say violence is never an answer but you clearly have never been in that situation. My mother was entirely to blame because she would not let up on him and may as well waived a sign that said "hit me". I can see where that would wear a guy down after a while to the point where he would want to kill his tormentor.
it's not a perfect world and shit happens.

  31. @Jas...I totally agree that they are both crazy...and both live for the drama.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jas, she checked his texts on his phone. While she had no place to do that, he punched, bit, and slammed her head into the window. Whatever happened in their relationship in the past is speculation, as Rhianna didn't go into details on the how physical she became with him. IMO, getting into his phone does not warrant what he did to her. I also have a hard time believing she actually beat him. With the abuser I knew, there was basically no provocation, something little would set things off. Solely speaking of that night, looking into his messages was in no way a reason to beat her

    ReplyDelete
  33. Also, I just wanted to add, while I don't agree with you, it does not make your point or your opinion any less valid. This is just a subject that (obviously) hits close to home, which is why I feel so strongly about it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, Brown should have been thrown in jail for assaulting Rhianna, but if she forgives him and loves him and still screws him whenever he wants, what's the point? When abused women (even if they're rich and famous and can afford to hire someone to quietly put HIM in the hospital) continue to enable their abusers, all the public shaming and business losses of creeps like Brown will do little to stop him from beating other women - or keep stupid women from letting him do it to them.

  35. Can we get a pic of Fist Brown having a hospital visit with his face pummeled into hamburger by Rhianna please? Until then ..............

  38. I don't think it matters what color the man is, it matters which in the couple is more loved by the media. If Chris Brown had beaten a girlfriend that wasn't famous, would he be on the world's shit list? Rick James was a horrible abuser and is still loved. And like said above, Mel Gibson is no longer adored, although his decline ("Sugartits!") started before he beat his girlfriend.

Here's a good article for more:

  39. Yeah but Charlie sheen who has a history of DV and still gets one after the other is adored.

If I say "woman beater" and the names that come to your mind are Chris Brown,OJ and Ike Turner, that's racist as hell considering how their White counterparts behaved.

    ReplyDelete
  40. JasCrocks- about giving white celebrities a "pass" that depends on whom you're talking about doesn't it?
I absolutely do not give Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen etc a pass for their disgusting behavior. I won't watch them in movies or on TV, I don't want them getting a cent of my money. I hope other people vote with their wallets as well. Unfortunately Hollywood seems to lack any ethics whatsoever, and understands money. If they realize these guys are bad for their bottom line, they will deep six them.
I do think the public is harder on black celebrities but they do get away with their share of shit too.

  43. Charlie Sheen is not beloved by any stretch of the imagination. People think he's full of crazy and think he's disgusting.

Mel Gibson has lost a lot of his luster - his last few movies have tanked at the theaters and no one wants to associate with him anymore (except for Jodie Foster).

Chris Brown is an unapologetic a-hole who calls women "bitches" and "hos" and who has shown ZERO remorse for what happened with Rihanna. That is why he is getting more flack than most celebrities. Anyone who supports losers like Chris Brown is just as worthless as he is.
